Losing Jonny tore our lives apart & it is a tribute to our Starman that his death deepened our grief. Jonny like myself were great fans of George and we will be paying a special tribute to him during Jonnys funeral service. I hope as many Blades as possible will join us on the 19th as we say goodbye to 2 true 100% Blades and both legends in their own way. Both of them leave us at the prime of their lives and will be sadly missed. It is such a shame that we never got the chance to show George just how much he was loved on his return to the Lane, but I am sure he will be immortalised in some way so he will never be forgotten and his family can get comfort in the way that our family has found comfort from the love and heart felt tributes being attributed to them. R.I.P Starman and thanks for the memories 💔⚔️❤️
I work in a D.I.Y chain store and George came in a couple years back to buy a Christmas tree... I served him at the time and was completely overwhelmed by how normal, down to earth and friendly he was. There was no air of self-importance whatsoever; he had time to talk about United with me and didn't brush me off as just a "shop assistant". He was a truly brilliant servant to the club, a fantastic player and moreover a kind and generous person. My heart breaks for his friends and family... it's just terrible 😔 Rest in Peace George, thank you for everything... Starman x
George was a personal favourite❤ We met him 1 year ago when we found out the sex of our baby at jessops hospital, he was in the car park with coffee and other bits for his wife as she’d just given birth to his baby boy.. he spoke to us just like he’d known us for a while, lovely man? And such a beautiful, talented man! rest in peace Baldock❤ Lovely video
@chelseanewall6044 : That's a lovely story ❤️ Thanks for sharing! George will leave behind a great legacy, not just as our Starman but as a wonderful, down-to-earth gentleman 🌟
The respect and emotion shown by the Greek team to George proves what a special guy he was. A genuine tragedy for him to pass at such a young age. Rest in peace, George.
if there are any youngsters out there currently playing football for either a local youth team or even in an academy who dream of making it as a professional footballer and reaching the top of the game,if you need inspiration then look no further than George's career, its a remarkable story.Started off in lower league football including a period in non league and overseas for an Icelandic team before coming to us and bit later on,a fully fledged international player. He wasn't sprinkled with magic dust in becoming a footballer it was all down to George's incredible determination, grit and hard graft, something that we all recognised, valued and he made us part of,that's why we loved him at Bramall Lane. I will be 62 at the end of the year and have been a blade for 51 of those years.During that time,I have seen players come and go,some good, some ok and some mediocre but there's another category that very few players are in that have played for our club..It's one of the lines from our song,You fill up our senses and that's what George did,he filled up our senses. Can't put a finger on what exactly those senses are but when Starman was on the pitch in the red & white, you felt the tingle. The name George comes from the greek word georgos, which is a combination of the words ge ("earth, soil") and ergon ("work").In a way its fitting that he was named George,a down to earth man off the pitch yet on the pitch had an incredible hard work ethic, something all of us will remember when we think of George Baldock
This has honestly rattled me a bit. I'm in my thirties and I'm not supposed to see people younger than me, in far better shape than me, pass away. It was a total shock. All I can say is that it was a pleasure to watch him and I think when fans think of what makes up the Sheffield United identity, Baldock represented that. He had talent and class on the ball but he was an absolute warrior and workhorse. There's not many players could do what he did just in terms of covering so much grass. There's not many players could match him for the bravery and dedication. You add his touch of class on top of that and he was one hell of a player through what was the best United first eleven of my lifetime.
First saw the Blades in the early 1950s and Starman George was one of my all time favourites. I agree with Ollie 's dad. If I had been good enough to play for the Blades I like to think I would have shown the passion and commitment ALWAYS shown by our adopted Blade whether playing or supporting. It's also been apparent from other tributes from other clubs he played for that he made a similar mark on everyone he connected with. What a horrible year it's been for our Blades family with our beloved Maddy Jonny and now George taken from us too soon. No words but thank you and God Bless
The most committed full back we've ever had (and I can remember Len Badger), Angry George, Gorgeous George, Geogios Baldockis, Starman... Always dynamite! My heart and condolences go out to his family and friends. PS. Very classy from Panathinaikos who are going to pay his full 3 year contract to his family.
I never had the pleasure of meeting George in person but watched him play countless times. The fact that this has hit so hard speaks volumes about the man & the player. I went down to the Lane on saturday to his memorial, i felt like i had to, that I'd be missing out if i didn't go down. My young un came with me & stuck a note on the barrier for him, broke my heart seeing her doing that. I still cant get my head around this, life is just so cruel when it want to be
The goal that George Baldock scoered for United at Carrow Road against Norwich City was of the great George Best standard. Rest In Peace George Baldock ⚔️
It's been an honour and a privilege to see our Starman don his red and white number 2 shirt for 7 years at BDTBL and watch him play some outstanding football 🌟 An inspiring, humble and generous human being. We will remember him 🙏❤️ A well presented video, Oli - can't have been easy - thank you 🙂
I come from a family of blades,my mum is 83,when she got up yesterday morning, she said, the first thing I thought of was gb,that’s the kind of effect his passing has had. My favourite player of the past few seasons, you’ll be sorely missed starman, rest easy brother xxx ps, great rendition of starman by that young lad utb 😢
So so sad to hear the news about george my grandsons first autograph on his sheff utd shirt was george baldock he will never was that shirt rest in peace starman from alan in hull
Why can’t we arrange a benefit match (pre season) with panathinaikos. Would be a better game than the usual alfretons etc and be a sell out. Possibly arrange the same in Greece for an away day for the the fans?
Well done Oli,you presented that beautifully.
