seeing all the discourse around the lyrics and i honestly think it's cool that they took the reception they got about it and instead of complaining rather listened to the people who pointed out what they disliked and why, possibly reflected on it and then applied what they've learnt by changing the lyrical content to something more palatable. artists are human and should be allowed to grow and change (be it their craft or opinions) too :)
i actually like this more muted version, it fits in with the rest of the album and almost feels like a sequel to the original bc of “I wanna find out what it’s like” / “I guess I found out what it’s like” and the “I think she’s still waiting for us there” part. and the “I have learned so little from all that I’ve lost” tying in with Sunglasses’ lyrics makes me think it’s some sort of reflection on the subject rather than the original which is this huge manic reaction. still like the original more but I have 0 doubt this will grow on me
At least what I have read is that the changed lyrics were taken from personal experience in order to fuel Isaacs original manic breakdown vocals, which spawned from stage fright freaking him out for real when singing lead at first. That shit isnt sustainable to sing all the time since sooner or later you get confident in your singing and the lyrics change context and become unfitting.
