- (Helpful tips and tricks) in dealing with brown 678 model exhaust fan light combo. Many people have asked me how to remove the light lens out of the trim for a simple light 💡 change. I hope this video was of some help to you in aiding your light bulb change 👍 If it has helped you please consider subscribing to my channel for future videos on things electricians do. God bless you all and be safe out there.
Your instructions were perfect for a beginner who just wanted to clean their dusty fan and change the light bulb! Thank you 😊
Thank you! In the past when my fan or fan light went we just moved! We like our current home to much to move. I learned a lot watching your RUclips.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! SO-SO helpful. I had some dust inside light cover that was driving me crazy. I was able to lower the fixture, but couldn't remove the light cover until I watched your video. Using the putty knife was perfect, took 2 seconds! Thanks again!
Thank you. This was very helpful.
Was not sure how to get the cover off and was concerned I'd break it.
Your video was exactly what i needed.
I used a pocket knife and carefully removed the cover.
Very informative video, could not for the life of me figure out how to get the cover down so thank you for makin’ this
Thanks so much! We were replacing the fan and took everything down and reinstalled everything and then...we forgot how we took down the trim. Needless to say, your video was just what we needed! Everything is as it should be and everything works!
thank you so much for this!! the putty knife totally did the trick, and I wouldn’t have known what to do without this video!
I literally was about to inadvertently tear out the entire fixture had I not run across your video. Thank you! I was able to clean out the lens and remove the accumulated dust bunny.
I have the exact same fan/light that i've changed the fan before and now 4 years later I needed to replace the light globe, thanks to you I've identified the fixture and replaced the globe with a new one that came with the new fixture that I've bought for future use in case my fan/light craps out. Thanks to your video I'm future proofed.
Thank you! You've caused me to check off this task that's been on my to-do list for years.
Thank you for producing a very helpful video, I all but tore the fixture out of the ceiling while painting because I expected it would be one like my other bath that is on those spring things (if I recall correctly?) damaging the edge of the grill. Torqued off because of the high ceiling and limited usefulness of a ladder in the tub, have left it 1/2-axed for several months not eager to cramp my neck again from looking up for so damn long jacking with it. Recently I came across a display of replacement grills and surmised which one is the right one and lo and behold it is. Back to the ladder joke in the tub which is unworkable safety-wise; tho do have a Gorilla folding bench that is too large but okay to put in tub 1/2 way and was able to see in enough to discern the acorn nut attachment and remove the reflector intact. So here I’ve landed to get educated by a guy of substantial experience on how to install the new lens/grill. Thx!
Wonderful. Was struggling to figure out how to disassemble this kind of trim at my girlfriend's apartment, where her bulb has gone out. Thank you for the detailed exposition on how these things are put together!
Hi Ron! I just moved into my new place and noticed that these lights weren’t turning on. Turns out, there was just straight up no light bulb inside 😂. I was able to get the cover down without any sort of thin blade, but your advice on where to press helped a lot. Thanks so much!
Thank you Sir! Doing a new install on old work DIY, no attic access. Included instructions are pretty vague, so you saved my bacon!
Thanks for watching and commenting👍 I'm surprised you didn't watch 🤔 my how to install a Broam model 678. It's on my channel if your interested.
Thank you so much. The final assembly of this fan escaped me.
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🏻.
I glad the video helped you.
Thank you for sharing. I was getting ready to call an electrician until I saw your video. Easy peasy once you knew what you were doing. I was just wanting to clean the vent out. Your instructions made it quite clear. Thank you!!
Thank you. I'm a young new homeowner and my house has this model. The bulb was burnt out and I didn't know how to take lens off
Thank you!!! I was looking all over for manuals to figure this thing out and then came across your video. FINALLY! Was able to figure out how this thing worked and how to fix it. Original handyman screwed it up and caused us to be without a fan/light. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching and the comment. You made my day 😁. I'm glad I could help. This is the main reason I do these videos ❤️ To help others out.
Thanks a million! Great step by step instructions! I didn't realize the original fixture was installed incorrectly making it difficult to replace it. I am not an electrician, just trying to clean the fan! I re-installed it using your instructions and now it is clean, correctly installed and no longer making noise!
Thank you for sharing this video. This video was a great illustration. My bathroom has a Nutone bathroom exhaust and light system that is similar to the Braun exhaust unit you were illustrating, therefore I was able to follow your instructions to be able to remove it and get it cleaned. Thank you so much for sharing this information.
Im a 77 yr old widow and I never watched my husband or son remove the cover so it worked perfect with the putty knife and now its nice and clean !
Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. I'm glad it helped you 🤠
THANK YOU!!! My Broan fan/light is mounted 18ft high and I thought I was gonna have to call someone to help me change the bulb!
Your welcome Bill. I'm glad the video helped you. Thanks for watching 👍👍
This was EXTREMELY helpful. I live with my sister and this needed to be cleaned, after the passing of two dogs. The housing is not flush to the square hole and there is a lot of debris in and around the fan. There is nothing wrong with the fan but I am going to need to take everything out to carefully clean, not just the fan, but the entire cavity. I was at a loss but now with this video, it's very doable. I'm not afraid of simple home repairs and I would normally not tackle anything electrical but your videos show that it's not to difficult! I appreciate it and I'm sure my sister will too. (Since she would have to pay for the electrician! It's technically her house!)
Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. The best of God's blessings to you and your sister in this cleaning/repair.
This just helped me to clean the trim and change the bulb. Appreciate it greatly!
Thank you Ron for this video. I loved the way you showed step by step and showed the parts clearly enough so I could do the same thing you did on my fan. You were a life saver today for I was having much difficulty reassembling the fan after cleaning it. Thank you again this video was a big, big help. 🙃
Thank you! You solved my problem tonight!
I pulled the whole box out because I thought the trim and lens were held in by pins. Oops. This video shows the fixture I have so I think I can resolve it without having to call someone. Thank you.
Thanks for helping me find the tabs!
Thank you, Ron. Great tutorial on this subject.
Thanks for posting this! We don’t need to change ours yet and just had the random thought of how do I change thing when it’s time now I’ll know. Thanks so much!
Your welcome 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks a million rate
Ray
Exactly what I was looking for on how to remove the grill for cleaning!
Thanks for watching Johnny 👍👍 I'm glad this video was helpful.
Thanks for this. Didn't want to crack the lens and couldn't recall what comes off. I find LED bulbs don't last the advertiser life span.
Much appreciated. Signed frustrated homeowner
This made it so easy. Thanks!
Thank you for this video Ron had two of these needed cleaning real bad ,you showed me just what I needed to know. Thanks alot.
Your welcome, glad the video helped you. 😊
Thank you for your explanation on ths video. Well explain.
Thanks for posting, very helpful
This is gold!! Thank you!
Thank you for the video. What kind of bulbs are best to be used for bathroom exhausts in your experience?
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've been using all LED type bulbs for the past 10+ years now. Very few short life. Most of them have lasted 3 to 5 years with intermittent use. I believe most of bulb selection is the color choices that are available today. I asking the customers , if you were to use the bathroom in the middle of the night 🤔 what color would be best for you to see but not blind you?
2700k=soft yellow🤔
3000k=soft clear🤨
4000k= bright white 👍🏻
5000=sunlight bright🌞
6000=super bright 😎
Thank you so much for making this video!! This was very helpful!!
Thanks for watching. I'm glad I could help ❤️
Excelente explicación 👍🏼
Awesome video! A+👍🏻
Thanks so much! I was trying to remove it🎉
Thanks for watching 👍🏻. I'm glad this video helped you ❤️ Gina
Thanks for this video. I have a question about a ceiling light /fan. We bumped the ceiling fan while moving things around in the room, now the fan doesn’t work, just the light. Any ideas on what we can do to fix it? We tried the directional switch and made sure it wasn’t in between settings. Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks for watching and commenting. That's a great question. I would check the connections where the fan connects to the house wiring. I wire nut may have came off.
Thank You!!!!! Made it so easy.
Your welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻. I really appreciate it.
good demo. Thank you
Awesome, thank you for this video
Super helpful..thank you
Thanks Linda 😊 I glad the video helped you 👍🏻
Thank you - that did the trick!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad that helped you.
Thank you!
Hello, thank you for posting this video. Can you please tell me what size the screw and acorn nut is that attaches the reflector the motor above? Broan wants a high price just for the screw and acorn nut and I can’t afford that. Is the size #10-24x0.75 hex head screw, and acorn nut #10-24? Is this correct? I had some work done and they lost the screw and cap nut so I’m trying to find replacement that’s not from Broan and not plastic from Amazon. Thanks for posting this video!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. That is a great question about size that I didn't talk about in the video. I just pulled one out of the box and check. Broan uses a #10x24 x ¾" long hex headed
(self tapper) With a #10-24 acorn nut. A standard machine bolt of the same size will do the job just fine.
@@workingmanrondoyle3287 oh my gosh thank you so much! I’m going to Lowe’s tonight to get these parts. I appreciate you taking the time to help me. Next time workers are in my house I’m going to make sure they don’t lose parts to things they have to disassemble!!!
I have this same fan but it’s branded Nautilus
Thanks really helpful
Thanks for commenting Dan. I really appreciate you watching. I'm glad it helped you.
Ok thank you SOOOOOOO much!!👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for watching. I hope this video helped you out.
Thank you 👍
This is a long shot but I just watched your video on the Broan 678 exhaust fan/light. Is it possible to tell me/show how to re-wire so that both the exhaust fan and light come on at the same time. I only have one switch. Thank you
Thank you for watching and commenting. I sure can. The Broan 678 model exhaust fan/light combo has a removable 45°corner that holds two non-grounded outlet.
Start with shutting off the right breaker that supply's power to the switched location. Install a ½" cable clamp in this removable 45° bracket. Next wire your house ground to the Broan's housing by bonding it to the green ground screw on this 45° removable part. Then wire nut the two white wires to your house's white neutral. Lastly tie both of the fan's hot wires to your switched hot. Reinsert the 45° corner which houses both outlets. Insert the main fan assembly. Plug in the fan to one of the outlets. Plug the light into the opposite outlet. Reinstall the light housing / grill as described in the video. Turn the breaker on and you are set.. any other questions let me know.
@@workingmanrondoyle3287 I can't hardly thank you enough. I was finally able to rewire the fan/light as you suggested and it works! I laughed out loud and I am absolutely delighted. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
What would cause molding to settle around the edge of ceiling where this is mounted against?
Thanks for watching and commenting. For as many years as I've been replacing bathroom exhaust fans, I've not seen mold growth around them.
Very good
I watched all your videos, but still can’t figure out how to get the glass dome off. I don’t think it’s plastic. It sounds like tempered glass and it doesn’t have the two tabs on each side that has two tabs on one side with arrows. We’ve tried pushing both arrows that way to remove the glass to no avail. Have you come across the fan like this? Almost seems as if there’s a lip under the plastic housing so the glass won’t fall out?? I’m at a loss. Any suggestions?
I think I've got the same one your talking about in my house. I'll check, if it is I'll do a video of it soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you
Curious- can the fan cover be removed for cleaning?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, the fan can be removed from cleaning fairly easily by removing the inner fan plate. Sometimes the plate is secured by one ¼" hex headed screw. I hope that helps you.
❤thank you
Your welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
thank uwu ✨
Thanks
I can't get the acorn nut off. I'm trying to replace the motor. The entire bolt is turning. What should I do.
I've had this happen before. Sometimes conditions rolls down on the thread to the acorn nut and seizes up! The best two way to remedy it is to push the light shield up enough to grab the thread with long niddle nose pliers to hold the bolt so as you can spin off the nut. Your second choice is to take end nipping cutters and snip that nut off. After you get it down , you can replace the bolt & acorn nut.
@workingmanrondoyle3287 thank you, sir. That was very helpful. I will try your suggestions. 👍

Mine does not have screws and only turns but will not come down. Can you help?
Do you know the brand of exhaust fan you have? And possibly the model number?
@@workingmanrondoyle3287 it is not a fan. It is a flush mount on the ceiling.

Fan and light aren't working on mine a power supply problem?
Thanks for watching and commenting. The easy to confirm your Broan 678 fan and light still work. Remove the fan and light's enter components and test them on a working outlet in your home. Next thing is to check the voltage at the two outlets inside the Broan's housing.
This Broan 678 fixture is a hot piece of trash. Guaranteed rattles and noisy fan motor. Replacing my third one in my house this month. Wish there was something that could reuse the ceiling housing without dumping attic insulation all over the place replacing the entire unit.
I couldn't agree with you more Corvette genius. This style of exhaust fan/light combo were designed to be contractor grade. I wish they would design an exhaust fan that had multiple finish trims.
Thank you!
