Thank you for this video! I’ve taken on more projects than I’d like in 4 months of being a homeowner and this made me feel better about replacing my fan myself. Will definitely be giving you a follow!
Best video on fan replacement especially for older homes. Mine personally had a CIRCLE HOLE that had absolutely no access from inside. Entire install had to be done from attic and i have chunky plsster ceiling lmao. 1960s were a weird year
I've installed this fan model into my remodeled bathroom. I redid the entire electrical system in my bathroom (house built in 1928) and instead of connecting the electrical circuit directly to this fan unit I threw in a wall switch along with the remote for this unit. There's a switch so just in case there's an issue you can reset the unit by killing the power from the wall switch instead of dealing with the circuit breaker. I put a switch cover over so no one can just mess with the switch by accident. The switch on the wall acts as a reset/kill switch just incase this Bluetooth unit have some hiccups.
There are several modular replacement kits on the market if you happen to have an older Broan. I went to do this job at my older sisters and was able to buy a new fan/blower unit that fit perfectly!
I found the same thing with that exact Brian model that was installed in our of our bathrooms when our house was built. I went up into the attic and found that the flap was catching on the actual corrugated tubing that leads to the outside of the house...adjusted that tubing and it's all good now...still want a quieter fan, but at least it now exhausts air.
Did you ever fix your connections to the switches? You installed the hook backwards, so when you tightened the screws down on the switches, it was pushing the hook out instead of pulling it in.
Do not crush your romex power line with a crowbar. If you need to work in an area like that, remove the staple so you can relocate the powerline first. It's entirely possible that you tear in the insulators inside the romex which could create a short/fire hazard.
i have the same fan, just noticed that my neon light doesnt turn off completely. just began doing this. its a very dimmed neon light that sort of flickers and wont turn off. any advice would help greatly. thanks
Excellent video sir! Please share links for the needed accessories (the saw, the grommets, and the connectors) Also, I liked your tips and tricks regarding the test cord. Once I test the device. Does it save all the settings you did with the initial setup or does this need to be repeated once wired to the house?
Yes, once you setup the remote it will stay connected so if you use the a test cord the way I did you are set! Clamp style grommets: geni.us/8Nb2 (these may be cheaper at your local hardware store) Drywall Saw: geni.us/k8xu Wago Connectors: geni.us/3OBU02f Cord (for testing/setup): geni.us/WiXIy Screw-less Wallplate Cover: geni.us/cJ9SG
What did u do with the ground from outlet? Also is it really ok to cap both wires together from fan switch? I have double switches on 1 side and double outlets on other side. Only outlets will remain used. I guess there 2 sets of wires to each switch i cap off separately ( top switch set and bottom switch set)
Do you know if there are different levels of exhaust fans for bathrooms? As in higher power? The bathroom in question has no windows - it seems like it needs extra help in getting rid of moisture. Thank you
Do you have to use the switch that comes with the fan? Have two seperate switches for the fan and the light and would like to keep it that way, just wondering
Here to see if I want to get this fan. But wow, how frustrating to pull a non-functioning bath fan out and find it was due to a terrible installation mistake.
Yeah I agree. What's funny is when I tested it on my workbench it was pretty quiet (confirmed with a DB meter too), but after install it got louder. Probably a few different reasons but I have a feeling the drywall amplifies the sound.
@@TopHomeowner its the 3 inch hose.. you are running a higher static pressure so the fan wheel speeds up a bit.. if you run a 4 inch duct and install a 4 inch outlet on the house it will run quieter
Thank you. This video helped me install mine. I don't know why the manufacturer doesn't put out a video like this. I am disappointed in the quality of the speaker. I get distortion when the volume is only at 80%. I would think that $200 would buy me a decent speaker. I hindsight, I would have been better off just buying a regular portable Bose speaker.
I guess its a matter of perspective... It's the best sounding exhaust fan I've ever heard! 😅 Fits the bill for what we needed. Appreciate the comment. I agree the speaker is OK but it's not great.
Yes, you can still do everything without having access to the attic. In my case I took the easy route to remove the housing, but for the most part I worked through the opening from below.
I attempted roomside installation on mine.. the instructions have you cut the drywall first which helps with minimizing damage.. however if you have blown insulation be ready for lots of it to come down.. and you will probably have to pry and destroy the old fan box getting it out.. I suppose if you are lucky and your old one is omly installed with nails or staples it will come out easier butif its screws it will be tough going.. and you will want access to put your insulation back.. if you have batted insulation then that wont be an issue... like mentioned, most of the work is roomside.. and technically you can make all of it roomside, it will just be a bit harder
Anyone else have an issue with the fan running constant? I hear a click when I hit the fan remote button or press the fan button on the app but it will not shut off. I'm thinking I received a bad fan.
The only thing about having a larger fan with smaller venting is that the fan won't be able to operate at its full power (CFM). In this case, anything is an imporovement but it's something to consider if you're looking for a specific volume of moisture removal.
I would like to know when you turn the power switch On, not the remote, the power switch On, does the fan start automatically or you need to use the remote after turning the power switch On? Thanks!
No, the fan or light does not automatically turn on when turning the switch on. You need to use the remote or app to turn the fan or light on after turning the switch on.
so I have 2 fans in my house.. my house is a 1 floor with easy attic access.. the box for his A110 Flex (mine is the model you are using here with the speaker and all).. both of us wanted CFM upgrades.. THESE FANS ARE TALLER! than most lolder fans.. if you have 2x4 jopists and an attic you are fine.. if you have 2x8 or 2x10 joiists you are fine.. but if you have 2x4 joists and obstructing cross members or someone put flooring down for attic storagee.. this fan wont fit.. it needs little more than 6" height unabated.. my house has a makeup air system so pulling a total of 220 CFM with 2 fans running wont be an issue.. alas I tried to do the "roomside" installation that the instruction sheet indicated.. it is a FARSE as from what ive seen.. most are installed like yours are.. with screws . mine dont have staples but had wood screws.. 3 on each tab.. when you cut the opening out for the new size (leaving the old fan in (as indicated by the instructions).. you cant physically reach the screws with enough force to pull them out.. since the book says cut the drywall prior to box removal you can save your drywall from damage because you cut first.. anyway i was determined to do roomside so I used various prybars and was eventually able to muscle the old box out.. oh yes then 10 gallons of blown insulation came down.. (oh yeah another thing.. use a tarp. tarp off everything in your bathroom).. oh and wear gloves (metal edges are sharp) and long sleeves.. insulation can be itchy.. so I lightly picked up the insulation into 2 5 gallon buckets and saved it.. I now knew that roomside installation in a 1 story house (or in the top of a 2 story) is a farce.. you need to get back up and re-install the insulation.. knowing I was going to have to go up-top, I left the ears unfolded on mine..I felt like the install was a bit flimsy as my joists above the bathroom are only 2x4.. you can get high enough to get a nice solid feel to the bucket.. when I went back up to install the insulation, I ran a couple screws in the ears.. you can use the old 3 inch and adapt it to the new 4 inch outlet like you did, you may not get the full 110 CFM, but the best way is if you are in the attaic already ,swap to a 4 inch hose if you can and adapt at the house outlet (if its only 3 inch).. I use a Zip tie also.. tape will eventually deteriorate. yours will still work. great video.. I just figured id put out some poointers.. oh and some (including me) have reported that the sister model of this fan.. the A110 FLEX (no light and no speaker).. arent shipping with the flanges.. and you defimnitely want them for a retrofit install
I followed your instructions and successfully replaced my really noisy old fan!
Thank you for this video! I’ve taken on more projects than I’d like in 4 months of being a homeowner and this made me feel better about replacing my fan myself. Will definitely be giving you a follow!
I'm so glad! Just take your time and you'll do fine. Thanks for the follow :)
Does this fan connect to Alexa?
I used this video to install my fan and it was super helpful for a successful installation!

By far the best, most in-depth video on this subject. It really helped me out! Thank you!!
the best video so far to introduce replace old fan with new one. thanks a lot for sharing.

Excellent video. Very detailed. 👍🙏
This was very informative! Great instructions. :)
Nice video. Do you not need the vapour barrier hood over it on the attic?
I bought this same unit but the wires coming out of the fan motor are making contact with the fan. Seems like a huge potential fire hazard

Really wish you had shown how you hooked up the electrical at the switches.

My remote is not working to this fan

curious about the 4 to 3 inch.....would that not reduce the airflow out of the unit ?
11:08 just curious why you didn’t install it from the attic?

Yes. They have different CFMs with higher meaning stronger.
Measure sq ftge of bathroom ...1 cfm for every sq ft
Do you have to use the switch that comes with the fan? Have two seperate switches for the fan and the light and would like to keep it that way, just wondering
Yes, that switch is required unfortunately. You can control each independently from the included switch though.
Lot of people don’t know that we have to pair the remote and the light. Can you give more details about that. Thanks 😊
Here to see if I want to get this fan. But wow, how frustrating to pull a non-functioning bath fan out and find it was due to a terrible installation mistake.
I installed the same one a couple of weeks ago. The sound is pretty good. I don't think the fan is as quiet as advertised.
Yeah I agree. What's funny is when I tested it on my workbench it was pretty quiet (confirmed with a DB meter too), but after install it got louder. Probably a few different reasons but I have a feeling the drywall amplifies the sound.

@eldoradoboy yes thats what's happening your obstructing the air

Im in the middle of doing this, my flapper was stuck as well, probably been that way for 20 years!

Any time
They make a galvanized reducer that will go over the fan piece outlet from unit. Most of the time they are out of stock though.
What about the exaust duct? It looks like it just laying in the insulation. Shouldn't it be vented through a roof jack?
Hi! Just installed it , but the fan wont work.. only the lights are good, what should i do 😢
Check that the white wires are all connected together
Hmmm too bad you didn’t trace new unit size first to ease demo of smaller fan.
Im gonna need that fan to go on sale😂
😂 Yeah its definitely on the high end

That attic insulation sucks
😮
why did he install it from the attic? He was already up there.
To show people how to do it?
Cortó el flex😂
Really bad
