This looks way too cartoonish. I'm really concerned by the battle animations, the fact I've only ever seen a few units in an army, the Arena style focus on 'buffs' and 'abilities', and once again the battles look way stupendously quick. Total War used to be about huge armies fighting huge armies - now it looks like it's turning into a generic strategy franchise with a focus on small unit tactics. I know this represents the 'Romance' mode and not the 'Historical' mode that will hopefully be far more consistent with previous historical titles, but god damn even the Romance mode has way too much emphasis on this arcadey, almost moba-like hero feel. I was hoping for thousands of soldiers fighting, with one or two badasses amongst them who could turn the tide of battle if used correctly but who were only there to lead, not play the central role. Not a few hundred dudes running around as grunts while the general, who is like 1.5x their size, casts his magic spells and plays Dance Dance Revolution - Shaolin edition with the enemy leader to decide the fate of everything. And is it just me, or do the armies feel smaller, and less epic, despite the supposedly increased 'scale'? The game looks looks really disappointing. I mean just look at the battles. Where are the battle lines, the actual tactics, the strategy? It's all micromanagement and reflex based. There's barely time to even look at the battle because there's always something else that needs doing right then at that moment. I used to feel like I was commanding an army when playing Total War, this looks like it's lost that spirit. Even Total Warhammer 1 and 2, which aren't even trying to be historical, feel more like war games than this looks. :(
Huge armies fighting huge armies? Dude... Your nostalgia goggles are so thick you can't even see anything... Go back and take a look at the unit sizes of previous games. The only two that have larger units than the recent ones are Rome 1 and Shogun 2. You want huge armies and medium-long battles? Do like me and get theeself a Double Unit Sizes mod, that shizz fixes that problem right up. And you get to ACTUALLY have "Huge armies" :D
A good game shouldn't requier mods to be good. Everything said by Flawed is true to me. What annoys me the most is that we all know that's not a decision that has been made to grant players new things, that's a decision that has been made to conquer a lot of new players in order to gain more money. They are selling the roots of Total War, it doesn't mean that the game won't be good, it means that we won't have a proper Total War title for a long time.
Wait... Did... Did I say it required mods to be good? I'm trying to find where it said that, but I just can't see it anywhere. Could you point me to where exactly I said the game "required" mods to be good please? I'm pretty sure I just said that a certain type of mod would fix the problem Flawed in particular was having, which is small armies and short battles in his opinion, not everyone shares his opinion, which is why mods are better than enforced gaming experiences. Also, what exactly is not a decision to grant players new things, but rather to conquer new players? Genuinely curious here, I don't see where that came from.
USERZ123 thanks for comment, I know there will be language option, maybe it’s because my English is too bad , I mean the language of units speaking in the battle. atm, I only can hear English voices. Or do you mean, when I switch English to Chinese, those unit will speaking or commanding in Chinese voice ?
They should move and twirl like real banners though. I find it unlikely that every battle has full maxed out winds. Making them randomly dip and then fold out etc. would look much better.
Spent hundreds of hours to understand the history, but forgot to look up how to pronounce the key figures' names... it hurts my ears every time the narrator reads Cao Cao.
He didn't make mistake as that pronunciation is quite correct in English. The same thing also happens to Lu Bu. It's so common when a name is translated into another language, the pronunciation also changes.
Arnold Lee the narrator and voice actors mostly chinese or westernized chinese, how can they pronounce them wrong? Or did you mean the CA employee? if that so it cant be helped...
feeblezak Its better without it. It messes up your formations and battlelines and makes no sence at all. Heroes can have them but not all. 5000 soldiers duelling isnt that great. And the performance impact was huge. Try the matched combat be gone mod and you'll see it yourself. its crazy. I hope its death for good.
Everything is epic but the battle itself. See 3:52 to 3:59. What the hell is that type of fighting? Even Rome total war had better fighting. Soldier coalition and battle animations are horrible. The battle looks from the Age of Empires series but with good graphics, where soldiers do, continuously, swings with the sword and the others just die after some hits. I am completely disappointed with the battles, especially this one. I think you have a problem with the infantry fighting each other because in the E3 movie you had the same problem with infantry but not when the cavalry charged. After amazing combat seen in Shogun 2, Rome 2, Attila and even in the warhammer series, this is just pathetic. Hope you can change it and release a much better combat upon release.
In my opinion I do not care if they are absolutely realistic or not. What I do care is if it looks good and that the soldiers attack each other and not the air arround. The hero duals are amazing, the normal soldiers fighting are horrible. They could at least make them attack each other.
Can someone explain me if square formations were common in this period of time? 6:17 I thought square formations was a new military infantry tactic in the Age of Reason and even Christopher Duffy in his book "The Military Experience in the Age of Reason" points out that in 18th century was not commonly used but more tipically used in 19th century in Napoleonic Wars. This video shows a square formation similar to those used by Wellington in Waterloo in 1815.
how would the timeline work?? Sun Quan was a kid, and his sister even younger, in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms there were a specific scene AFTER the death of Sun Jian (Sun Quan's father) in the hands of Liu Biao's ambush for the Imperial seal, the 10 year old Sun Quan went as an emissary to get his father's body back, and they specifically commented on his bravery as a small child, and said he is destined for great things. So is the game NOT going to have a timeline? so all important characters are available from the start? if so that would be the worst idea when dealing with Three Kingdoms themed game. the whole story of Liu Bei involves running away until he got to South western China or Shu area. and recruited ZhuGe Liang on the way. that's Liu Bei's struggle. to get from Central China to South Western China. the reason why Three Kingdoms is so good is because you get to see those heroic characters die of either battle or old age. and the next generation takes the mantle. How would crucial characters like Jiang Wei (ZhuGe Liang's protegee) be involved, because he only came into the scene after many of the heroic characters died. I do hope this game have different starting dates like Koei have done with their Three Kingdoms title. otherwise characters that played a pivotal role in the later years of 3 kingdoms would be left out. including my favorite general Deng Ai.
in the video description it was stated that the battle took place 20 years after the start of the game. but yeah the way they narrated the story make it seem all this happen at the same time
The timeline did not match.... Sun Jian would have been dead by that time. Either from historical perspective, or from the Romance of 3 kingdoms perspective.
If this game was coming out this year id be a bit worried although overall it looks really good but the animations look awkward too fast and strange looking.
I've been playing Total War for more than 15 years but recently moved to China for three years (been here for one, and have two to go). I'd love to play a head to head campaign against some Chinese players when this game comes out. If you, or anyone you know is interested, hit me up on Steam.
I was honestly surprised to see the chinese community playing Warhammer 1 and 2, I used to be very active in the modding community and I witnessed plenty of talented chinese players making some great mods. 2 hobbys that I share with the chinese: TW games and the NBA, lol
i love the three kingdoms franchise ive played every version of RTK for years. i wished they would have made the game play on RTK13 more like RTK11 or 12. i dont care for the more personal grow of a player i would rather control more of the whole kingdom than just a player. also should they make another they should have 2 mains lines. 1st one forces you to follow the book history so all events get to play and the 2nd is like all the others where you can change it up but you will not get all the events to play.
I'm glad to hear it, and I hope the game is enjoyable to you. I've got only a passing knowledge of the "Three Kingdoms" information personally, but I think this game is interesting enough that I would want to play it regardless.
According to Pei Songzhi, historian of Eastern Jin dynasty, author of the Annoted Record of Three Kingdom, Sun Ren is the alternate name of Sun Lang, Sun Jian's son with a concubine. In fact, Lady Sun was not named in any history record, except folk tale and Chinese opera.
If your enemy character wants to start a duel with one of yours can you deny it? Surely if you have a much bigger army but a weaker character you could choose to send in your troops as backup
Agree, in ancient China duel only happens in a relativity balance opponent force to boost morale, if you have a stronger force why would you want a duel.
Coffee It doesn't matter about the time period, we just want sync'd combat or at least sync'd deaths. Similar to how the sync'd combat of Shogun worked. Not the shitty Warhammer version.
Yeah, no. Shogun's fighting animations always annoyed me. If you have one warrior left amid dozens of my spearmen, I want to see all of my spearmen stabbing at him to take him down. None of this movie-ninja politely waiting to fight him one by one. War is a team effort, not a parade of duels.
That's CA's fault for not creating and expanding on matched combat. They can easily to do a sync'd 1v5 (or more) combat scenario. The movie stuff is what made the match enjoyable. If you want no matched combat, then you'd like Rise of Nations or Age of Empires more. Those combat aniamtions are what you want.
The lantern on the sky is called kongming Lantern ( Hot air balloon principle) which can fly with the wind. It was invented by the Shu kingdom's prime minister Chocolate. The kongming Lantern is a good will expression or hope expression in China.
I'm sooo happy they made the arrows similar to shogun (hopefully the arrows stick on corpses of soldiers too?). Was never a fan of the way projectiles looked in the warhammer series. They just felt more like peashooters with no impact.
The music is nice and all, but wow, the animations are the worst they've ever been and I simply could not tell what appended in this battle at all.. It didn't look like these forces were fighting at all. Total War this is disorganized, you can do MUCH better than this!
I am hoping, butthey commented on how they no longer want matched combat like in Rome 2, and want more general combat like in Warhammer total war. Staying it's better for unit cohesion, but I never saw unit cohesion in Warhammer
We want naval battle !!!!! One of the three largest battles IN three Kingdoms era "Battle of Chibi" (赤壁之戰) is basically naval battle !!!!! and you guys told us ????? NO NAVAL BATTLE ????? are you serious ????
if the gameplay is more like arena rather than the classic total war style... really gonna lose points for me. if it was like shogun 2 but like more unit diversity it would be great
idk it all looks and feel fantasy to me. I play Attila and it really empathises the grittiness of war. But every-time i see this, I see a cartoon. It might just be me but thats how I feel. It looks disappointing as a historical title to me. Plus the units fighting each other doesnt look like a battle at all, they all just waving their weapons at the air between them at 100mph. Idk what it is, but it doesnt look good to me.
CA realized they can make more money on fantasy fans. That's why every game has been feature stripped and why 3K is focusing on heroes with magical abilities and doesn't even have naval battles.
Attila doesn't look gritty at all, c'mon now. I agree this new TW looks like a mobile game, but others TW also didn't look that good. It seems the "historical team" changed ever since Shogun 2, maybe some key devs abandoned the company... idk, but ever since shogun, they are only releasing shitty games. I love Warhammer 1 and 2, but these games are only really playable and fun if you use tons of mods. A heavy modded rome 2/attila can go to a very poor game to a acceptable game. And that's far to be enough imo, especially when they charge money for even minor blood effects. If you want to play the complete content, you literally have to pay the full price twice. Only a fool does that, especially when the game itself is not even that good.
L O R D Lack of colors does not make a game grittier. Attila has a nice presentation overall, but the game crumbles when you start a battle. The animations are so freaking bad, awful AI, etc.. the way the horses moves and attacks, it looks like a cartoon.
one thing I will say is that I hope the "dueling" system isn't 1v1 exclusive. like idk about historical records but in all the romanticized texts and media I've seen it was never just strict 1v1s. like during the seige where they kill lu bu it took the combined might of like 3-5 heroes to take him down, not a 1v1 as CA showcased during that footage. especially now that I know that units actually get buffed for fighting along side each other I want to see an enemy hero so obscenely powerful that it actually does take like 3 of mine buffed together to take down. that'd be a really cool epic moment. you can even have it to where once a hero gets so strong they get a guaranteed trait that has them refuse help from any others to balance out late game duel mechanics. like if one unit is really strong they will not allow any other heroes to assist them in combat, etc.
you guys should really do an early access on steam or something for this. This game has so much potential. i really hope it brings back my faith in the total war series.
I hope they dont abandon shogun 2's style of animated battles. And head for Warhammers shitty Age of Empire fighting animations, were there are no animations.
i hated the animations because they would always cause formations to break down and you'd have 1v1 duel animations with like 4 other guys just standing there waiting for their 'turn'
Yeah, I mean that why they should improved it. They thought they could've just copied and pasted Shogun 2 animations styles over to Rome 2. They were lazy to do this.
Sun ren AKA Sun Shang xiang、lady Sun。She comes from Fuchun,Wu prefecture(today's Fuyang,Hangzhou,Zhejiang)Sun Quan AKA Sun Zhong mou's yuong sister,Liu Bei's wife(Only three years)after this Sun ren back Wu kingdom, the afterthought is unknown About she's name: Sun Ren--Inside《Romance of the Three Kingdoms》《三国演义》mother of kingdom Wu(SunQuan's mother)She has a daughter, this girl's name is Sun Ren(孙仁)on account of,Chinese historian think this Sun Ren and Liu Bei's wife it's the same person Sun Shang xiang--the most well known of lady Sun's name, present to Chinese opera《甘露寺》and《别宫·祭江》 Lady Sun--lady+surname is the end of Han dynasty queen's appellation
Really miss the detailed fighting animations from Shogun 2 and Rome 2, now they are just swinging randomly at flies. The game kinda looses some of its essence and appeal without the animations :/
I love prominently the generals feature in this game and that minature duel system seems interesting. The banners look super cool, I'm really excited and am going to buy this but I hope these improvements make it into the future warhammer titles that CA does
I guess its cinematic effects, where is there lamp post in the forest route? They did release lantern in Ancient china to coordinate attacks but of course this is overkill.
Marvium - Knowledge no because of the backlash of Rome total war. where people complained that it made it unrealistic since everyone would be dueling and there was no formation fighting.
Y'all are rediculous. Everyone complained about having sync combat in Rome, and now everyone is complaining about not having sync combat in Three Kingdoms.
JellO Its shitty cause CA rush of Rome 2 ruined matched combat and gave it a bad name. When ever we look sync'd combat in TA, we should point to Shogun 2, cause that is how it was rightfully done. They have every oppertunity to improve, yet CA wont. Its a shame cause the sync'd combat is WHAT MADE THE BATTLE CAME TO LIFE! And the people saying Sync made it unrealistic.... Like come on. Really? If you want this kind of fighting animations, go play Age of Empires or Rise of Nations. The irony is that sync combat make it FEEL more realistic.
Sun Shang Xiang (Lady Sun) wasn't a general....even in Romance of The Three Kingdoms she was just a maiden who was married off to Liu Bei to secure the Shu-Wu alliance.
She was heavily into martial arts however and had a mini brigade of women soldiers at a time where that was odd. She also had the self determination to leave Liu Bei with the help of her brother and almost took Liu Beis heir Liu Shan with her (would've changed history) but was intertcepted.
I think there are some mistakes in setting .In history,Cao Cao did not attack Sun Jian's army.During April of 191,Yuan Shu sent Sun Jian to recruit Jingzhou and attack Liu Biao. Liu Biao sent Huang Zu meets SunJian between Fancheng and Deng county. Sun Jian defeated Huang Zu, chase after the victory, across the waters of han, surrounded Xiangyang. Liu Biao did not fight and closed doors.Huang Zu returned with troops.Sun Jian defeated Huang zu.Huang Zu ran away, his subordinates fired arrows from the bamboo forest, and Sun Jian was dead.
let me just say one thing the battlefield is sooo damm beautifull!! the sad thing that there is no combat animations:(, will it stay this way???? i dont know?!? i guess we have to wait.
Looking forward to this one. Total war games are so edicting i spent a whole day playing shogun and didn't even realised when night fell. I hope Saga makes a total war game with Indian subcontinent region
+Siege link Battles didn't go quickly in the ancient world. Most battles took hours or even days, so I'd much rather have a battle not end within 5 minutes
CA, PLEASE LOOK AT ME!!! Thank you for all the work you have done! However, I really seriously badly wish the fighting between 2 units can be more like Attila or Britannia, instead of Warhammer. I swear! even in the romantic mod, the Warhammer fighting animation could really ruin the game experience. I have been dreaming of a Three Kingdoms Total War game since I was a 10 years old kid! And I always believe the true charm of Total war is the sense of substitution. PLEASE DO NOT make those units hit on a direct and sometimes miss the hit. PLEASE DO NOT let the units alive after been hit. PLEASE make them fight by the same way as Attila. PLEASE make the high-class units can be instantly killed by a mangonel. PLEASE don’t make the romantic mod looks like another Warhammer. In the end, again, thank you for all the work you have done. I can see how much enthusiasm you have spent on Three Kingdoms. Please make it the greatest! OR I WOULD RATHER BETRAY THE WORLD, THAN HAVE THE WORLD BETRAYED ME!!!!!!
Wait a second: Archers are firing OVER the treeline? WHAT SENSIBLE MADNESS IS THIS
I was really exited for this game at first, but now not so much. The English voice acting is terrible and the game itself looks like a mobile game; it just doesn't have the gritty theme that Attila had. CA is trying too hard to make this into another Shogun 2 themed game, but Chinese warfare was much more large scale and tenacious (much like Rome's) than the romantics of samurai skirmishes. HForHavoc its not madness, this fire will hinder their opponents from crossover the woods to attack them while they themselves can keep on raining volley of arrows on the Sun army
It's still in development, they'll probably be tweaking the graphics alot. Though I really don't care about those.
Jelly Rolls The fact that they are releasing this as a demo means that the devs are already fine with the current state of the game; they're probably taking time to tweak other features, meaning the final game will probably look like this.
偉大な敵 if this looks like a mobile game to you then I want to know what mobile games you play, because oh boy that would be somting to play on the bus
Can we just..talk about how amazing the music is compared to previous TW? It gets me sooo pumped. Its so dynamic and large.
I know. I wasn’t particularly invested in the music from the previous games. Not that they were bad but it didn’t captivate me like the music from this game did. I want to get the soundtrack if possible.
Wow, the banners actually work. Finally.
*Proceeds to adjust his glasses like in the anime*
Narrator: I will have my vengeance!
i hope they bring back general's speeches like rome or medieval
They will. The generals will shout insults mid battle as well.. at least if we're gonna belive CA.
He means the speech before the battle.
Warhammer only had them for special battles; in M2 there were speeches that any general could give before any battle. Same with R1.
the voice actors in this game sounds like chinese speaker, which is good. But it just sounds kinda low energy.
a shameful dispray
Nassim Atif
This! Well, in rome 2 you had General speeches as well, but you could barely hear them and they were during the deployement phase when you didn't pay attention.
I always liked the general speeches, always fully listened to them even tho they became quickly the same :P
5:47 that horseman just crashed on a tree with "Ugh!"
Wow the fire arrows and trees burning is stunning
Only thing dissapoiting is the no hitreaction by unit models from arrow
That's not something new.
luckyx360 it still have a year of production still
this is odd considering that Sun Jian died in an ambush before SUn Ren and Sun Quan came of age. BUt the GRaphics are awesome and music is sooo epic
The fire and lighting looks great! The unit banners look smooth too. Looking forward for this title.
EVERYTHING looks amazing, graphics are highly improved, lighning looks gorgeous, banners move as they should, UI is beautiful and Warhammer physics are back, boy am I hyped for this game!
hugothester hugo sube tu review!
I will get one, they never ask us to give exclusively possitive feedback, I genuinely love the games ;)
Humo tester. You foxy the bitch of the CA
i agree to everything except the UI it could be more asian styled.for me it looks more like a bad menu design for smartphones
Pero por qué lo criticáis? Si no les comiera el culo le darían las exclusivas a otro, pues así funcionan las compañías. Los youtubers con exclusivas no son más que publicidad moderna.
Sun Ren is Sun Shang Xiang for those who are new to 3 Kingdoms and those who play Dynasty Warriors
Ohhh that makes sense now lol
That makes sense because there isn't many female general back in the day minus Lady Sun.
AHHH, was about to google her because I was like is that Sun the wife of liu bei?? Thank you!
Oh now i see😃
@Ryan Nguyen
Wang Yi
Holy mother of Byakko, the music is AMAZING!
Those mountains on the campaign map and in the battle look amazing and the lanterns at night were a nice touch.

this is a bot
Eh yeah enkhe, I'm not a bot :/
unfortuanly i am really igonorant about asian culture:(

I really hope the animations are improved by release.
Yea, the combat animations look atrocious.
Etherium there's a solid year until release
slimyish no there isnt. Its coming spring 2019, thats less than a year.
Even if they had a year, I doubt they'll change it. A lot of player ask for less animation to advantage gameplay. So you don't have battle like Rome 2 or Attila. And sadly, they seem to follow those request.
Look at Warhammer animations, it was awful.
right!! im in the southern hemisphere, its so dumb that they say spring, summer etc the seasons arent the same around the world
The map is stunning and gorgeous! Good job Creative Assembly!
Shouldn't Sun Quan be younger than 10 lmao
Other than that, the game looks far more polished than it did during E3. Definitely worth the delay to spring.
Indeed. Quan was still a baby boy -_-

anyone else get goosebumps by the commentary?
The music is amazing!
Agreed, until now the music is the best point of this game to me.
The trailers are also very very well made.
Pleassssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee release that amazing soundtrack 😜
The Overlord Girl ikr
Yeah

Wait...
I wish they could speak theirs own language while they frighting on the battlefield. But using setting language to answer your commands
Yes, CA pleeeease give us Chinese dialogue. It will be epic if we can hear the charging soldiers scream “SHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”
Theo Chou wow that would be nice
The demo looked so good, love the lanterns and the banners.
I love the banners too. They are much better than the floating flags of old games.
They should move and twirl like real banners though. I find it unlikely that every battle has full maxed out winds. Making them randomly dip and then fold out etc. would look much better.
I hope we will get bigger units
Mods my friend... I don't play Total War games anymore without a "double unit sizes" mod. It's even a good fix for the problem of short battles.
I'm liking how the game looks so far, but I'm kinda disappointed that we did't get to see some sickass melee animations from the normal infantry units
Spent hundreds of hours to understand the history, but forgot to look up how to pronounce the key figures' names... it hurts my ears every time the narrator reads Cao Cao.
For non-Chinese mispronunciation is inevitable. It is better to accept this, as you can't do anything about it. 沒辦法
Kopesh88 ikr, i bet all the game's speeches and narration have already been recorded
There is Chinese voice over though
He didn't make mistake as that pronunciation is quite correct in English. The same thing also happens to Lu Bu. It's so common when a name is translated into another language, the pronunciation also changes.
Arnold Lee the narrator and voice actors mostly chinese or westernized chinese, how can they pronounce them wrong? Or did you mean the CA employee? if that so it cant be helped...
What just happened to the fighting animation? What have you done!?
Go play medieval 2 total war, it had the best mix of fight animations and proper game mechanics.
Xiran Liao
Down what most people wanted, got rid of the horrible matched animations
The 5% multiplayer players complained and got it removed from Total War from Warhammer onwards to the detriment of the series.
feeblezak
Its better without it. It messes up your formations and battlelines and makes no sence at all. Heroes can have them but not all. 5000 soldiers duelling isnt that great. And the performance impact was huge. Try the matched combat be gone mod and you'll see it yourself. its crazy. I hope its death for good.
Medieval 2 had Terrible fighting animations. Not to mention how horribly glitchy the battles were.
Oh my god. Formations! I miss you formations so much, wish we had them in TWW.
Also, this looks super good.
Please make the units battle like they did in Shogun 2.
Better not, I would like to see Rome 1 and Medieval 2 style units battle (5 soldiers gang up against 1 enemy soldier) make a come back.
This is it!
Anything but not what they are doing here.
Ну да, в древнем Китае все сражались как в ммо! Зачем нам реалистичность?!
The Phoenix Emperor. The samurai would duel each other rather than stick to formation. Iam not sure about China tho
Hope you can change it and release a much better combat upon release.
>he thinks Rome 2 & Attila fighting animations were realistic
In my opinion I do not care if they are absolutely realistic or not. What I do care is if it looks good and that the soldiers attack each other and not the air arround. The hero duals are amazing, the normal soldiers fighting are horrible. They could at least make them attack each other.
Agree, literally could have just copied shogun 2 and it would look 10 times better
the only thing I agree with you on this comment is the Shogun 2 combat
this looks bad.
Sun Ren is Sun shang xiang for those dynasty warrior players out there.
I do hope this game have different starting dates like Koei have done with their Three Kingdoms title. otherwise characters that played a pivotal role in the later years of 3 kingdoms would be left out. including my favorite general Deng Ai.
in the video description it was stated that the battle took place 20 years after the start of the game. but yeah the way they narrated the story make it seem all this happen at the same time
For clarification, this ambush battle took place 20 years after the start of the game, so everything matches up.
obsidianstatue dong zhuo stayed alive 20 years after the game started?
The timeline did not match.... Sun Jian would have been dead by that time. Either from historical perspective, or from the Romance of 3 kingdoms perspective.
Claystead Dengie ai is the commander leading one of the invasion forces
Against Shute. And he is the one who force Shu to surrender
Its funny how the kill animations of Rome and Medieval 2 are still better than the ones produced now.
If this game was coming out this year id be a bit worried although overall it looks really good but the animations look awkward too fast and strange looking.
Man, I can already see some Mongol Invasion/Qin Dynasty mods for this game!
im a chinese, im so looking forward to this game. absolutely, we thousands of chinese total war fans are crazy since the claim of three kingdoms
And this game make europeans like me interested in the history of China. I just started to read the Three kingdoms books because of it ^^
According to Pei Songzhi, historian of Eastern Jin dynasty, author of the Annoted Record of Three Kingdom, Sun Ren is the alternate name of Sun Lang, Sun Jian's son with a concubine. In fact, Lady Sun was not named in any history record, except folk tale and Chinese opera.
Man this campaign map looks beautiful
my excitement for this game cannot be contained, please CA don't make us wait for it, but at the same time, please make it amazing
If your enemy character wants to start a duel with one of yours can you deny it? Surely if you have a much bigger army but a weaker character you could choose to send in your troops as backup
I think you can. If you go to 07:13 and look at the top right corner, you can see a retreat option between the duelists.
Just watched another video and you can retreat from a duel but it has a negative morale effect
R&R Wargaming makes sense
Agree, in ancient China duel only happens in a relativity balance opponent force to boost morale, if you have a stronger force why would you want a duel.
I've never been hyped for a game this much. But please don't rush it, take your time and make it perfect.
i was hoping for shogun style fighting animation for each unit.. 😕
Right? A more artsy feel to the game instead of blob effects
Masturbatosaurus Seems you forget this is a different time period
That UI and unit icons are awefull....
I want to see the SHU faction
SHU led by the mighty Shoe
Tbh I’m just glad their just releasing more information about this game. Historical/lore based trailers and/or battles just gets me more excited.
No dynamic kill animations?!!!
The lantern on the sky is called kongming Lantern (
Hot air balloon principle) which can fly with the wind.
They just felt more like peashooters with no impact.
looks amazing. great narration had me drawn in
The music is nice and all, but wow, the animations are the worst they've ever been and I simply could not tell what appended in this battle at all..
Those duels look amazing!
We want naval battle !!!!!
One of the three largest battles IN three Kingdoms era
"Battle of Chibi" (赤壁之戰) is basically naval battle !!!!!
and you guys told us ????? NO NAVAL BATTLE ?????
are you serious ????
miss sun ren's vocal appearence is so satiesfieing,i would like to listen to her more.
It looks like Arena
if the gameplay is more like arena rather than the classic total war style... really gonna lose points for me. if it was like shogun 2 but like more unit diversity it would be great
Undr Grnd
The gameplay is like classic total wars
I think that aswell. Arena is cool, but a real total war shouldnt be like Arena. More than rome 2 or Shogun.
Answers here www.totalwar.com/blog/total-war-three-kingdoms-six-things-youve-asked-about-classic-mode
You couldn't describe it any better than that. I agree.
I guess moustache general in trailer is Sun Ce and the one who is standing front Sun Quan in trailer is Sun Yi.
Can we kill enemy with forest fire and is there wind direction for forest fire so has to not cause self harm like shown in three kingdoms drama ?
Would be a good feature, lets see if they do that, but i doubt it. (At least in the mp )
Great sounding track, makes you feel the intensity of the battle ensuing.
Please don't make Warhammer matched combat !! Please !! Make Shogun combat come back !!
OMG I CAN'T WAIT!! LIU BEI AND THE FIVE TIGER GENERALS FOR LIFE!!
idk it all looks and feel fantasy to me.
Attila should be called 50 shades of brown.
Only a fool does that, especially when the game itself is not even that good.
attila doesnt look gritty? Have you even played it
L O R D Lack of colors does not make a game grittier.
Why are the hero models in the campaign map so fidgety? Looks like they're on drug withdrawal
you guys should really do an early access on steam or something for this. This game has so much potential. i really hope it brings back my faith in the total war series.
And no hit reactions for models, no kill moves neither :/ it look very arcade
I hope they dont abandon shogun 2's style of animated battles. And head for Warhammers shitty Age of Empire fighting animations, were there are no animations.
i hated the animations because they would always cause formations to break down and you'd have 1v1 duel animations with like 4 other guys just standing there waiting for their 'turn'
Yeah, I mean that why they should improved it. They thought they could've just copied and pasted Shogun 2 animations styles over to Rome 2. They were lazy to do this.
Atmosphere feels amazing. Sounds are amazing. UI feels different (finally) and refreshing. I love the new feel to this game!
More gameplay
Sun ren AKA Sun Shang xiang、lady Sun。She comes from Fuchun,Wu prefecture(today's Fuyang,Hangzhou,Zhejiang)Sun Quan AKA Sun Zhong mou's yuong sister,Liu Bei's wife(Only three years)after this Sun ren back Wu kingdom, the afterthought is unknown
About she's name:
Sun Ren--Inside《Romance of the Three Kingdoms》《三国演义》mother of kingdom Wu(SunQuan's mother)She has a daughter, this girl's name is Sun Ren(孙仁)on account of,Chinese historian think this Sun Ren and Liu Bei's wife it's the same person
Sun Shang xiang--the most well known of lady Sun's name, present to Chinese opera《甘露寺》and《别宫·祭江》
Lady Sun--lady+surname is the end of Han dynasty queen's appellation
Really miss the detailed fighting animations from Shogun 2 and Rome 2, now they are just swinging randomly at flies. The game kinda looses some of its essence and appeal without the animations :/
Yeah the animations in Rome 2 and Shogun 2 are epic. I don’t care about general animations, I want my infantry kills.
The voiceover is amazing. Can't wait to play it.
You BETTER have naval battles in this game
johnyamahm nah.
I doubt it. They aren't even necessary, this is China not the Mediterrenean
Extremely ignorant. Plenty of battles happened on the coast of Chinaa and the huge rivers of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers
Chi Bi is a naval battle right? If so, I think they'd have something in the works considering how crucial that battle was.
Well, there were a lot of naval battles in this era based on history.
love the effect of the trees being on fire from the fire arrows.
We need lots of combat animations
I love prominently the generals feature in this game and that minature duel system seems interesting. The banners look super cool, I'm really excited and am going to buy this but I hope these improvements make it into the future warhammer titles that CA does
Who released all those lanterns before the battle?
Patrick Ellis Little chinese dwarfs
You know, it's better to release some red lantern before A STEALTHY ASSAULT
I guess its cinematic effects, where is there lamp post in the forest route? They did release lantern in Ancient china to coordinate attacks but of course this is overkill.
Really liking how the game looks, and the soundtrack so far is great!
Hope this will feel a bit like shogun!
no its Total War Arena engine-ish
TTK is a great setting to introduce the hero-like mechanism to the franchise.
no sync combat?
Marvium - Knowledge no because of the backlash of Rome total war. where people complained that it made it unrealistic since everyone would be dueling and there was no formation fighting.
Not having Sync Combat is very unrealistic.
Y'all are rediculous. Everyone complained about having sync combat in Rome, and now everyone is complaining about not having sync combat in Three Kingdoms.
Not matter what CA does someone will complain. It's a fact.
Boy, I never imagined Cao Cao would want to go after Sun Ren and Sun Quan at such an early juncture!
曹操变成嫂嫂了
The banners are such an awesome addition!
Sun Shang Xiang (Lady Sun) wasn't a general....even in Romance of The Three Kingdoms she was just a maiden who was married off to Liu Bei to secure the Shu-Wu alliance.
i suspect they will probably have all characters from DW playable
She was heavily into martial arts however and had a mini brigade of women soldiers at a time where that was odd. She also had the self determination to leave Liu Bei with the help of her brother and almost took Liu Beis heir Liu Shan with her (would've changed history) but was intertcepted.
it obviously a feminist move from CA
She had 100 maiden body guards with her all the time. And she herself was good with the bow and horse.
bitches give stitches. They don't just take off britches.
Sun Ren =
Cao Cao wasn't the Chancellor during Dong Zhuo's war against the coalition of warlords. His position was rather minor at the time. Just a FYI.
Looks great
OMG the choreography is AWESOME!!!
let me just say one thing the battlefield is sooo damm beautifull!! the sad thing that there is no combat animations:(, will it stay this way???? i dont know?!? i guess we have to wait.
PS: I also like the simple style of fighting warhammer 1 and 2, i am just corious!! thats all!!
The game visually looks really good. You guys should seriously consider releasing a blood DLC on launch though.
Sun Shangxiang is bae
The animations are really really good!
为什么感觉孙尚香的配音有些显老?
欧美给比较严肃题材的配音,感觉都显老一点
This looked lovely! Hyped!
Not having fighting and killing animations like in Shogun 2 for the units its a huge let down for me
Looking forward to this one. Total war games are so edicting i spent a whole day playing shogun and didn't even realised when night fell. I hope Saga makes a total war game with Indian subcontinent region
The combat is too quick
You mean you like the torturously long battles in Medieval 2?
+Siege link Battles didn't go quickly in the ancient world. Most battles took hours or even days, so I'd much rather have a battle not end within 5 minutes
I suppose quick battle is better than slow one because you feel so exciting in game and focus on operation.
@@siegelink9549 Generals didn't win battles using "good micro".
Attila the Fun
Alexander the Great is typing...
4:44 there is one axe soldier use power of the force to carry his weapon :D
OR I WOULD RATHER BETRAY THE WORLD, THAN HAVE THE WORLD BETRAYED ME!!!!!!
cringe at the end, just like in the video lol
