Some information about Nanman peoples in case anyone have interests in them: Q1: Who were the Nanman peoples? A1: The term Nanman or literary “Southern barbarians” were used by people of Han Dynasty to call the native peoples in today’s southwest China and perhaps parts of north Burma, Laos and Thailand. Historically, Nanman were not one ethnic group but dozens of peoples and tribes living in the wild, yet historians during Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms had limited knowledge about them. By Han Dynasty, those tribes were still very prim and were viewed as barbarians by Han scholars during that period. Q2: Are Nanmans Vietnamese? A2: No. Vietnam in Three Kingdoms Period has its own faction, governed by warlord Shi Xie, who is a highly sinonized local noble and the governor of Jiaozhi (Cochin). It is most likely that Nanman peoples are the minorities living in Yunnan Province and parts of Laos, north Burma and Thailand. Since Nanman peoples in Han Dynasty did not leave a well preserved writing system, it is still debatable by modern historians about which people belong to them (as there are still dozens of native peoples living in this area). Q3: What’s the relationship between Nanman peoples and the factions of Han Empires? Why do they emerge in Three Kingdoms? A3: During the peak of Han Dynasty, the empire managed to subjugate local chiefs of Nanman tribes. The chiefs became lords of Han Empire and were given authority to rule the land in autonomy, so in theory they were all vassals of Han Empire. Their territories were called Nanzhong, which were under the governance of Yi Province (Liu Zhang’s land and today’s Sichuan). The relationship between Nanman peoples and Han was unstable: if the chiefs got along well with Han officials, both sides live peacefully; yet if they didn’t, the tribes would revolt. During Three Kingdoms, Nanman tribes rebelled against Shu Han Kingdom after the death of Liu Bei, which led to Zhuge Liang’s southern expedition. Q4: Were the units (tigers, elephants, etc.) of Nanman historically accurate? A4: The tigers only emerged in the novel Romance of Three Kingdoms, when Nanman King Mulu used them to fight against Zhuge Liang’s army. This part is mostly likely the imagination of the author Luo Guanzhong. But elephants and rattan armors were real (in many Southeast Asia cultures, elephants were quite important in warfare ). However, although they were relatively prim during this period, I still doubt that those Nanman peoples were still using stone weapons instead of mental ones. As for their clothes, I can see the reference of Yi people, a group of native people who loves to wear black (who also regard Meng Huo was their kinsman), but I can not guarantee that all the clothes were accurate. Q5: What happened to Nanman peoples later? A5: After being defeated by Zhuge Liang, the Nanman tribes again paid allegiance to Shu Han and later Dynasties, despite the fact that rebellions still occasionally happen. However, Nanman peoples did not establish a united country until the chiefs imported the central government system from Tang Dynasty in 8th century (the establishment of Nanzhao Kingdom). From 8 to 13th century, they established several highly civilized Buddhist Kingdoms while claiming to be vassals of Chinese Empire. However, this process was ended by the Mongols, who invaded and conquered Dali Kingdom. When Mongols were expelled out of China, Ming Army conquered this land from Mongols and remanants of Dali nobles and established Yunnan Province.
I'm Lao and I can understand some words from the Zhuang tribe that still live in southern China, Our languages come from the same tonal family and our cultures are really similar. It's really surreal to see and hear.

Wait, the “first expansion pack” for Total War: Three Kingdoms? So the Eight Princes and Mandate of Heaven are simple DLC and no Expansions? Oh, this game’s about to turn even better.
Or you can play as Meng Huo and claim Lady Zhurong as his wife. The Three Kingdoms novel portray the Nanman as a united faction led by a husband-wife team of Meng Huo and Zhurong.
@@lambertlum1087 I think that they become husband and wife later on, after the year 200. Probably be a chapter pack later on, where they fight Zhuge Liang.

That wouldn t only improve that weapon system also in the kampange. I mean because all factions must think about how to protect and get the reccources and it makes also the trading system betteruu
I'm interested to see how the tiger units will work mechanically, since they're composed of two entirely different model types, and it sounds like they might be able to split up in battle? Also wondering if we can take that as a hint that there will be some sort of beastmaster/animal handler unit in the upcoming Wood Elf expansion to Total War Warhammer. Very grateful to some other commenters who filled in a little bit of historical context here. (I know Google is my friend, but it was still nice to get that summary to make a little bit of sense of things.) Knowing that the tigers were present in the romanticized Three Kingdoms version of events makes their inclusion a lot more understandable.
@@Xelief I am basing my assumption of precedence of previous sales when a DLC released. Like the EU4 DLC sales. I didn't want to type that much so I just said 'Steam".
First of all, the Nanman tribes were well into the bronze age and perhaps the iron age as well. In the novel, they are often described as carrying swords. Also, the previous Dian kingdom was shown to use bronze swords profusely along with spears and bows. The later Nanzhao was also shown to use machete-like swords, spears and bows and even were famous for their strong socky horses. So, WHY THE STONE WEAPONS? Is it just to make them seem wilder and more tribal? Also, great job on the rattan armor but Dian and Nanzhao were also known for heavy lacquerware armored warriors whom if I remember right were also later used by Shu-Han. Then, it would have been nice to have units of buffalo riding warriors or at least make it a hero mount as it was mentioned in the novel. Finally, Shamoke being a hybrid lord in the Miao areas of Wuling, it would have been nice to have him look different from other Nanman lords. I don't know who did the historical counseling for the design of this faction but that person could clearly have done a better job.
I wonder if they will have a unique relationship or mechanic with Liu bei and vice versa considering there relationship in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Novel

So can you fight against the North or this is a separate map ?
The current map is expanded to the south for these factions so you can fight the north
nice expansion looking good so far, but it would be better if you could add some more duel animation.
Will the victory condition remain the same for this DLC ?
They’re getting their own story and events, so the win condition will be different.
Unique victory conditions for the nanman. Though shamoke will be able to contend for the throne as the only nanman able to do so.
@@zhiphius Oh damn, that's cool.
zhiphius thanks bro
They should have an unique winning animation for each faction. It would be cool!

meng huo:I got the best war tigers and war eElephants

Tiger unit is somewhat similar to dog unit in rome 2. Hopefully they are more ferocious.
Can't wait to play this in online battles... oh wait...
"New unit type, the animal handler" Uh, these guys forgetting the flaming pigs from RTW??
