    Thanks for the rundown on these cranks. I decided to go the same route and ordered them up from Amazon for my dirt jumper pump, track bike and just like you throwing a spare five Dev chain ring on it. Can’t wait to ride it rip it and see what it does.

    The difference was probably in the heat treating of the aluminum. The one that broke easier is probably the one that would’ve lasted longer because the metals probably hardened more but when you try to bend hard aluminum, it tends to crack.

      It definitely felt different as well. I am sure it would have been absolutely fine to ride on 😁

    7:48 People post pics of light weight chainrings bent like this and comments say they suck, are fragile, weak, too light. Including Absolute Black I got. But clearly requires major force, but it's not meant to be smashed into rocks, a bash guide will help. Protecting the chainring and the chain. Yes stronger ones will hold up better to abuse, but still I would use a bash guide.
    But nothing will save from a hammer.
    Never had issues with mine. But as I mentioned I use a bash guide.

    You know I’m working on the same frame for somebody and I used a 3 mm offset chain wheel adapter and my chain centerline was like almost 54 mm so I have a 6 mm on order. different cranks set though the one I have doesn’t have the adjuster on the other side has the center preload nut

    3:55 It's an open patent if it was not others would be in trouble long ago. Some people attack brands for copying stuff, but if there is an open patent or patent had an expiration date, not been renewed it's free for all. But this is a mounting ''standard'' So it's open patent. I've not looked at the patents for it.

    9:29 This looks well designed. For a low budget BB this is not the norm. But no idea if spare parts are available.

  • @mtbboy1993

    3:13 Amazon description says 29mm axle, but Sram dub is 28 and something. So if that's true they won't be compatible with eachother.

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Год назад +1

    1:14 Actually 6mm offset is better, if you can run it do it! It will have a better chain line, so it will be smoother. I've tried both on my bike. There's no way I will run a boost chain ring. First ride and it scratched the cassette, chain dropped at back pedalling, on DT Swiss 350 hub, Garbaruk 11-50 T 11 spd cassette. Atlas crank. shifts were worse, still acceptable, but not optimal. 6mm is smoother. If the frame allows it, run it.

    • @chickensendies
      @chickensendies  Год назад +1

      Interesting input on your experience! Since I got the boost oval I will go ahead and run the 3mm.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 Год назад

      @@chickensendies If you can test both. I wanted a spare chainring, but øaø there was in the whole country was one boost chainring so I ordered it. Tested. But will sell it. Will only run the 6mm.
