So I say to my friend as we're walking by "This band playing 'Hold On Loosely' sounds EXACTLY LIKE 38 Special. Turns out it WAS 38 Special. On a free stage. We stayed and watched the whole rest of the set.
I paid 4 times to see LYNYRD☠️SKYNYRD play Big Concerts in their Home Town of Jacksonville Florida. They didn't show up for the 1975 Sunshine Jam in the Gator Bowl Stadium that they were headlining & another time they cut the Concert short due to RVZ bleeding vocal cords. They played Freebird instrumental. Gary Rossington came out when everyone was screaming for an encore. He said a few words that nobody could hear & let the Mic fall over. I'm still a SKYNYRD FAN but 38 SPECIAL did more for the Jacksonville community than SKYNYRD ever thought about doing. I never paid for a 38 SPECIAL concert but I saw them 3 times for free. Same with Molly Hatchet✌️🤠☮️

Caught Up In You hit #10, but Hold On Loosely only hit #27, meaning If I'd Been the One charted higher. Bizarre how some bands only have 1 or 2 hits survive on classic rock radio, even if they had other higher-charting singles in their prime.
Dunno why I never looked these guys up after years of having youtube, but glad I did. My wife and I heard this on the car radio today and we started jamming with steering wheel drums and air guitar while singing along, lol! This live version was pretty damn good! It still had the magic where some live versions dont.

Saw .38 Special in 2017 and they were awesome. They are just a great band. For me they were a bucket list band especially since they have a Van Zant in the band. Lynyrd Skynyrd is my favorite band, but these guys are up there. If you don't get the Van Zant reference don't try to figure it out.
Saw .38 Special 3 times during their glory days 81-86. Killer lineup w/Don Barnes, Donnie Van Zant, Larry Junstrom and lead guitarist Jeff Carlisi. Can't forget dual drummers Jack Grondin & Steve Brookins.
Can't figure out why some bands fill stadiums into their 70s, but other terrific bands end up playing some goat roping in Lima. These guys are the kick ass...

I saw them in Peoria back in 1979 or 1980. They opened for REO. One of the best concerts I've been to. I was always a huge REO and 38 Special fan.
