Tina Louise Had Conflicts with Gilligan's Island Cast

- Tina Louise, who portrayed the glamorous Ginger Grant on "Gilligan's Island," was rumored to have had behind-the-scenes tensions. She was unhappy with the show's slapstick comedy and desired a leading role.
I met her while she visited a movie location in 88.
She was glamorous with a parasol and gorgeous eyes. She kissed me on the cheek !
All was right in the world that afternoon.
You Lucky Dog!😎
Me and her made love but can't remember the year
I'd never wash that cheek again...
You are so lucky to meet this sex siren!
She's the last survivor of GI
She outlived them all.
@@recoveringsoul755Yet she's the least known
Maryanne was hotter IMO. But yes she is the only one alive still.
@@CatsClaw44I disagree. I know of many Ginger fans. I'm one. Many of us preferred her to Mary Ann, who I realize also has many fans. A question of personal taste.
I’m sure that the actress misses her costars terribly, and regrets being distant from them when they were all alive.
Tina Louise did a great job as Ginger. She is a talented actress and is a very beautiful woman.
You're more than right! I love/d her!
yea beautiful if you LOVE makeup lets see in the MORNING ruf ruf
Her gowns just in these clips were spectacular. It takes a certain look and a good deal of poise and grace for a woman to successfully wear those clothes, instead of the clothes wearing her.
@@msr1116 you can wear MILLION dollar clothes that doesn't CHANGE your disgusting MAKEUP FACE unless YOUR INTO being an imposter when YOUR OUT and a ruf ruf in reality
Ginger was gorgeous, I mean Tina Louise , beautiful lady , who doesn't wear makeup nowadays , she wore it perfectly ! ❤😍
Yeah. But I mean she nailed the Hollywood glamour movie star to a T
She did
Something she never obtained in real life and felt miserable about it. She wanted the show to be. All about her. Sorry Tina. It was Gilligans Island 😢
Yes, but i mean that too to a T proggoprong 😉 🤣
I wonder how good of an actress she could’ve been another movies or series
She once said that the producer (or director) told her when she was cast that he wanted "a little bit of Marilyn Monroe." And she really captured it, IMHO.
she should have been grateful to have been so loved by so many millions of people for over 50 yrs
She was.
Even this short states she appreciated what the show means to people ...but that doesn't pay the bills does it?
I remember that episode where a woman called Eva Grubb ended up on the island, she was like an office secretary or something and a shy, "ugly duckling" type, where they all tried make her blossom into a swan, she was sort of supposed to be the opposite of Ginger, but it turned out she was played by Tina Louise also.
I always used to wonder how Ginger, Maryanne, and Lovey had so many different clothes when it was only a three hour tour.
And how they kept their wardrobe so clean and pressed for all those years stuck on that uncharted island, lol.
The magic of television
The professor brought all his science books and equipment 😅
They were both hotties , most of us guys loved Mary Ann
Speak for yourself dude, Mary Ann was no way in Ginger's league! Cute, but no Ginger!
@@JeffreySuggsto be really honest , i would have screwed all 3 including Mrs Howell .
Yep, both were hot, but I was team Ginger too
I would eat Mrs. Howell’s bearded clam all day…
Mary-Ann's character seemed more approachable.
Funny how the one who appreciated the show the least, turns out to be it's sole survivor
And that's so-SAD-too.
Ironic ...
People act like she owes them something. She was on a TV show. She didnt attend all these reunions and autograph signings because apparently she didnt want to. Good for her. She outlived the entire cast, and did it on her own terms. Unlike shows today, these actors didnt get syndication money once the show was off the air. There was no financial reason for her to keep promoting it. SOme people arent nostalgic.
Best looking redhead I've ever seen on screen.
Red hair blow the waist. Mmmm
What about Ann Margret? 😊
@@api9727Haha, close but l'll go with Tina.
@@api9727 I don't know who Ann Margaret is. Robert Redford is another good looking red head.
Shes cute but Im thinking Jill St John (Tiffany Case in "Diamonds are Forever", altho she also played blonde and brunette in some scenes).
She was very attractive and added to the show.
Great show...! Part of my youth watching the reruns in the early mid '70's !
I’m still watching it.
Great lines. Still quite them.
The Hamlet episode is a masterpiece.
@@sterling557 it's one of the best !
One of the most beautiful women ever.
I always LOVED watching Gilligan's Island when I got home from school everyday. If anyone ever asks me, "Ginger or Mary Ann?" I always respond GINGER, GINGER, GINGER.
Me too!!!!!
@@JENBARAK not me......mary ann forever........
There’s cute, Maryann, and there’s glamorous, Ginger. Ginger……
But everybody's going to remember that show Gilligan Island that was a very good TV show back in the sixties and seventies😊😊😊😊😊 still today I watch that movie 🍿🍿🍿🍿
They tricked her making her think she was going to be the star
I don't think it was so much of a trick as it was Mary Ann who ultimately won the proverbial "Who's your favorite Ginger or Mary Ann" contest.
@@chickey333Ginger will always be my fave. 🧡
@@PetitHibou72 I still can't decide. 🤣🤣🤣
@@chickey333 I loved Ginger’s glamour as a kid, but I definitely see the girl next door appeal of Mary Anne now that I’m grown. :.)
@@PetitHibou72 Actually I've always wanted both knowing all along I was never going to get either. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think she was beautiful class act. I loved her in the Stepford wives too.
Lotta hotties in TSW.
Miss you guys RIP 💕
Tina was a gorgeous woman.
They could still do on final gilligans Island tv movie whre Ginger is rescued from the Island after all these years. Then it would be all about Ginger.
A rescued Ginger could dream up a 60 year old society still out there on an island paradise with a population of ????, who miss their red headed great grandmother responsible for Gingerville along with professor, Skipper, the millionaire, and maybe Gilligan. The team from Marianneville have the best basketball team and host an all island wrestling tournament once a month.
She had a lot of rules in the early 1970s and after. She was on episodes of the original police story as well as Dallas😮
I wonder if she realized the show was called GILLIGANS ISLAND,not Gingers island.
As I aged into my teens, I know the show should change to Ginger, Maryann, and the rest.
That's what the creator of the show said to her when she complained to him about storylines involving her.
That’s a comment that goes Into The Void I would think
But she definitely did a great job on it it wouldn't have been Gilligan's Island without her
@@EdSmith-bq1oxI wouldn't have watched it without her.
Shame On You For Treating Her Like Trash, She Played A Glamour Queen With Perfection. A+.
She's the sole survivor.😢
Maybe she would have been remembered as a great actress if she had other roles but she is forever known as being on a beloved classic show watched by families week after week for many people’s childhoods.
You ever see "God's Little Acre?"
I remember she was a recurring character on the first season of Dallas in 1978. She wasn't on there very long, but since that was the year the first Gilligan's Island reunion movie was made I've always thought maybe that's part of the reason why she didn't do it. Conflicting schedule
@@bogeysbaby not yet but I’ll look it up.
They used to ask “Ginger or Mary Ann?”, my answer was always yes😁
With as many different channels of entertainment now, there likely isn’t a modern equivalent to this question.
Good answer. And apt.
I’ll even take Mrs Howell!!
She deserves so much more 💯
We would have preferred that she wore much less! lol
She thought she was the show.... not Gilligan. She wanted it to be Tina's island. It's laughable people can't see she was an attention seeker and thought she was the main character on a show she was hired to be a background character. Now that's a narrsasist to the T ina
She was super hot, but I’ll take Jeannie.
Hmmm
Barbara Eden
@@EdSmith-bq1ox..Oh, yah..!! Was wondering what he meant..!!
Julie Newmar as Catwoman!
@@waynej2608 Agree 100%!!!!
The only part you got right was Tina being promised a bigger role than what she was given. The issue was royalties. The standard deal was "100 episodes to syndication, then you get royalties." Schwartz being the snake killed the show at 98 episodes. The show went into syndication anyway BUT the cast didn't get royalties because it's only 98 episodes, and the deal was 100 episodes. Tina confronted Schwartz about it, and his response was to have everyone alienate her while he didn't bring her back for the movies. And that hurt the entire cast. Dawn Wells spent her last couple of years of life begging fans on the internet to send her money so she could survive. NO ONE got royalties thanks to Schwartz's sneaky under-handed bullcrap to kill the show two episodes before royalties could kick in. The only difference is Tina had the balls to confront Schwartz on it.
Schwartz was slime.
THAT is the REAL story. People forget that Sherwood Schwartz was a snake. This is one of the reasons why Robert Reed clashed with him all the time, and this is why Tina Louise clashed with him. Tina was made promises that they didn’t keep. To make it worse, Schwartz tried to gaslight in interviews to make it sound like Tina was an ungrateful diva.
I'm not so sure that's true. The commonly accepted story is at Gilligan's Island was canceled because the network president's wife was a huge fan of Gunsmoke and so he cancelled G.I. and gave the time slot to Gunsmoke to make her happy.
At CBS Radford Studios
There’s The River Road Off The Colfax
Gate at The Bridge is The Lagoon Building
That’s Where The Original Lagoon Was
It’s No Longer There Just a
Building Called
The Lagoon Building
We loved her.
Classy lady.
yea you know her 😆😉😅😄🤣🤣😂😄😅
Tina is a smokin hot redhead. I know, nothing like stating the obvious. She, like the rest of the cast, wasn't paid well for her portrayal of Ginger. That show has been on TV for 50 years and they have not been paid any residuals. I think she is just the right amount of grateful for that role.
Typical for shows in those years. Cast of Star Trek got none from their show either. Even shows created in the last few years often get next to nothing due to the encroachment of streaming services.
Sounds like she was a demanding diva in real life.
Hardly, she expected the higher ups to do what they said they would do. They didn't, she had every reason to be pissed off, wouldn't you be?
i agree. Unlike the fellow above might understand, this is why these people only go SO far. She was ok at best.
Sound like needed to work/
That's what I've always heard.
My girlfriend in the early 80s worked in the salon where she had her hair done every week said she was a nightmare.
Funny thing is that while being standoff from 'THE REST' choosing to be a Hollywood party circut gal & a daily cigarette smoker she now is the sole survivor
At least after the show she didn’t talk it down.
In those days celebrities kept their mouth shut. They had all been from the era where studios owned their stars and were very much aware of bad press.
@@mopcambmm3185today, they are ingrates!!
I’ve heard they promised her a much bigger role, that’s y she was pissed
I never cared for all the negative banter about shows and there stars
No one is perfect.😊 I always had a thing for Ginger, she was absolutely gorgeous 😍 in my eyes 👀 😍 💙 ♥️
She did the best Marilyn Monroe impression the way she spoke. She nailed it perfectly and Tina was the epitome of what a Movie Star looked like back then! She was very beautiful and she was born to play Ginger Grant. ❤
That was the core of her character. She was a redheaded Marilyn! She even sang a Marilyn song one time on the show! It was "I want to be loved by you (poo poo pee boop)"
I hope she is proud of her iconic role. They were all leading roles, really. It's a really fun show and the character portrayals were well done by the whole cast, despite the somewhat silly plotlines.
She was an absolutely naturally gorgeous woman, unfortunately the hairstyle and makeup actually detracted a bit rather than enhanced, to my taste.
I understand not wanting to be typecast or just being remembered for a role she didnt care for that much. Then on the other hand, be grateful for what you have, and that your remembered.
Yes, considering the number of hopefuls who come to Hollywood then get stuck in bit parts or leave the acting profession entirely. Competition is fierce and only a very small percentage ever get any national exposure at all. These actors seem entitled to only the very best roles and become attitudinal when a part or script isn't "up to their standards". 🙄 Work is work, and quality roles and writing are especially rare on an American sitcom. These people's expectations are totally out of whack.
When you push your beauty envelope without substance this is bound to happen. Unlike a Monroe who dedicated herself to continuous schooling or a Bette who acted from the core and defied being typecast.
and the paycheck wasn't to bad either.......
Typical Aquarius, distant and reserved but very caring!
I always thought there was only my one more character”..theprofessorannemaryanne”. Lol!
I have fond memories of watching the reruns after school. Wonderful cast I remember one time I had my father sit there and watch a marathon of Gilligan’s Island. I loved it.
Ginger ❤ or Mary Ann ❤ 😂
It's a 360° Win!
Heads, you win!
Tails, you win!
Maryanne over Ginger anyway!
Man it's been that many years ago like 55 years ago or 60 and look at how well they did over the years and how good they looked and the amazingness of it I mean some actors just
Some actors just after 5 years later don't look good we're talking 50/60 years ago and they still look good
The rest? Only two more people? 🤔
She was beautiful and I think she was in the original Stepford Wives film.
yea if YOU love makeup lets SEE in the MORNING RUF RUF
She was in “The Stepford Wives”.
@@Jennifer_Lewis_Beach_Livingv That’s what I said.
They were co-workers on a TV show 55 years ago. They had a job to do, they did it, and went their separate ways. How many co-workers do you keep in touch with after 50 years? Get over it.
The Hollywood Press once voted Tina Louise as having the best body in Hollywood. I can't argue with that!!
… and shes literally going to have the last laugh!!!
God bless, Tina.
I never thought Ginger was half as attractive as she thought she was. Mary Ann, on the other hand, was a hottie. 😊
Mary Ann was certainly the hotter of the two but Ginger was a smoke show too
maybe if they had a residual deal like actors get today, she wouldve felt better about the show. the show was a curse to most of it's stars, because they ended up being typecast. the only one who escaped this was jim baccus, who was already typecast from the time he was in radio
Check out Tina Louise in The Stepford Wives. I’ve got nothing bad to say about her, Tina was fantastic at her craft! What a beauty! ✨🌹✨
She is a beautiful lovely woman ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Tina Louise and Barbara Eden were the hottest women on television in the 1960s.
Sadly enough she's the last surviving member of the show
She was also J.R. Ewing's first secretary and love interest off and on during some episodes of the first two seasons of "Dallas" , but unfortunately , they killed her character of Julie Grey off . Considering how that show later became a worldwide phenomenon and must see TV during the early and mid '80's , it's too bad they didn't keep her character on that show a little longer , maybe making her a regular part of the cast , that way she would have been known for a lot more than just Ginger Grant , which I got the impression that she sometimes resented , and thought kept her from getting roles .
Dawn Wells and Tina Louise were friends. It got all blown out of proportion. As a matter of fact, Dawn Wells brought Tina Louise to her mothers house for a visit.
Without Gilligan’s Island she wouldn’t be known at all!
It was one of the best movies because of those great movie stars Ginger and Mary Ann and professor and the millionaires and Skipper and Gilligan it was just a great movie
I watched her everday after school ❤
She was the main reason I watched every single episode just to see her mostly 😅
Anyone ever notice the characters represented the Seven Deadly Sins
Professor. Pride
Skipper. Wrath
Gilligan. Gluttony
Mr Howell. Greed
Mrs Howell. Sloth
Mary Ann. Envy
Ginger. Lust.
Like most everyone else I was a Mary Ann fan over Ginger but as I’ve become way older I’ve come to appreciate just how hot Ginger really was
she thought it was her show
She imagined that she was better than she was. She wasn’t.
Tina was beautiful, but Dawn Wells? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If sher stellar career had matched her self perception then she would have been way too busy to accept the role. I know that she has played other parts but none come to mind so she has been defined by a role that she despised
She got along with him. They had a notorious meet-up in the dressing room that the whole set heard.
Mary Ann will always be my answer to the question.
I believe she made the right call declining reunions.
Tina in the episode where she sang You Need Us in the honey bees was smoking hot. Her in those green pants was ahhhh 🔥🔥🔥
She was really upset because she felt that Gilligan's Island was beneath her. Hey, she didn't have to accept the role.
Also, most of us GILLIGAN'S island fans were disappointed that she wouldn't attend. In my opinion, it appeared that she was above the rest. That didn't help her image at all.
She was so beautiful.
I can verify her attitude towards the others on the show. Straight from the mouth of the gorgeous Dawn Wells, personally. I had the pleasure of spending some time with Dawn in 2015. She said that Tina never ate lunch with them and sat off by herself at every break, rarely ever saying anything to anybody until the word “action” was shouted. Dawn said that Tina just wasn’t very nice to anyone. Tina also didn’t stay in touch with any of the other cast members after the show ended like the rest of the crew.
I asked Dawn what her most memorable moment on the show was. Remember the episode where Gilligan came across the lion? Bob Denver (Gilligan) got a little to close to that lion, at one point, and the lion lunged at him with full intent. Freaked everyone out. Dawn was such a sweet and lovely woman. She was so skinny when I met her. I thought I was going to break her when I hugged her. I miss her.
As a younger boy during those day, ginger drove my bus to Chubbyville a lot.
She thought the show should center around her instead of Gilligan. It would've flopped if it had.
I wondered how she could possibly be so stupid. Why would a show called Gilligan's Island be about Ginger? Why didn't they call it Ginger's Island? They probably told her that to boost her ego but she didn't exactly think it through
Wait, can you really find fault with an actor /actress wanting to not be pigeon holed into a character type, but wanting to try other more demanding roles?
She was so beautiful
What on earth was the show supposed to be about, if this is true? It was dumb fun on TV in the 1960s. 🤷♀️
The only problem Tina would have had if I were there would have been keeping me out of her trailer :)
Yeah yeah and every other man because everybody loved Ginger everybody she had the most taller slender body she looked more like a model the other one was too but she was short and stocky and she was Mary Ann was was tight but Ginger was better modeling looking
She claimed the show ruined her career!? Oh stop Tina .. there's more options in show business than being an actor! Bob got along with everybody.....
They all loved Bob!
Great Cast !
Anyone who says Maryanne was hotter than Ginger needs to get their eye’s and head’s checked at the same time.
Tina did a better Marilyn Monroe than Marilyn Monroe did. And she was funnier.
Tina was told to play a Marilyn Nonroe type, and that's exactly what she played. Wonderful actress unfortunately got typecast.
She was my favorite of the cast!
Tina was Hawt! ❤
I’ve seen her in 1-2 westerns. She was great.
Ginger and Mrs. Howell were the best of the show IMO
MaryAnn over Ginger any day! 😊
Ginger was pretty, but as soon as Mary Ann was on the screen I forgot Ginger was there.
Shocking revelation! The two women didn’t get along.
All of these old sitcoms were lovely but the studios should pay residuals to all the actors and writers. These old shows have been seen on TV for 50 + years. Shame on these studios
This is not news. Long ago Sherwood told the story of Tina demanding more attention to which he responded "it's called Gilligan's Island."
Mary Ann hated her role afterwards, she was sick of always being referred to as Mary Ann after the show for the rest of her life 😢
