Actually there is a little thing I don't really agree on, when you were talking about making an auto level where all you do is watch a ruined city in the background and foreground, I don't think everyone will find a level like that good, sure it could be amazing to a person from outside the community but in GD we have certain standards, and gameplay is one of them, nobody makes an auto level where there's no gameplay, except if they make an animation, but in that case something is always going on, even if it's calm there are some dynamic things, maybe if that level had some sort of wind effect or something to make up for the lack of the gameplay that a large part of the community would find simply boring. Other than that I agree on everything.
I had a conversation about this with Replay Value, and actually not having gameplay is quite the important part of the experience. We all expect levels to have gameplay or animations, so if a level breaks that one established rule of GD it will create a juxtaposition which will make the fact that you are truly alone and the only one left a lot more impactful. If there's no gameplay, the level seems empty, just like you would feel if you were the last person alive. A level with that theme would not work as well if it had any gameplay / animations, it will only be truly striking if it's gameplayless.
Some of my best themed levels are: Save As by Pahc Dream Flower and Whitespace by Xender Game These weren’t out at the time of the video, but I think they all have insane theming and are amazing levels! Also you can probably write a 10 page analysis on Save As lol

I've seen so many good levels out there, with an amazing theme into it like CraZy by DavJT, with its cursed circus theme (Emotional) and Glowy by Rob Buck, with its "glowy" and bright theme (Design). Overall, i have to agree with you, a level's theme plays a huge role in a level :)
Damn what a dedicated video this was. I can totally agree that many levels just lack a theme making most of them forgettable and they'd be "just another 6* harder level". I know from my own few experiences with creating that I don't just wanna build something cool looking over 1,5 minutes, I always more or less unconsciously try to build around some theme. That, the fact that I'm quite a perfectionist and that I rarely find the motivation to start creating anything results in me barely ever building a full level even though I have imo promising ideas. All in all this was a very good video for everyone who tries to make a good and more memorable level than most other rated levels nowadays.
I am always just looking for a music and then automatically generate theme. I think that this is impossible to get sad level with happy music. Because he didn't know what to do later, CP is not a just code of this game, this is shows that this person know how to build and feel music. It may not have the best emotional theme but imo has the best design theme. I still think it evokes a feeling that you're traveling through a magical land. Design wise it has the best thing in a game and also has extremely good execution
