Apparently anecdotally, Lost Odyssey was one of Uematsu's favorite projects at the time. Personally I think it might actually be one of his best works, it definitely feels like a culmination of all his previous composing experiences. My one bucket list item is somehow getting him to sign the Lost Odyssey album I bought lol
The artist who drew this character is Takehiko Inoue who was the artist who wrote and drew both Vagabond and Slam Dunk that are both contenders for greatest manga of all time. Such a crazy dream team went into making this game from the music to the art.
You can hear Uematsu in the first song around 3:10 with one of those chord changes he likes, where it goes from happy to dark/mysterious for a brief second before reining it back in. That chord reminds me a lot of "Under a Rotting Pizza" from 7.
I grew up watching my brother play the Final Fantasy games, so Lost Odyssey was the first JRPG I played on my own to 100% completion. This was the first game that really showed me the power of expression video game music has and led me to look back on a lot of tracks I experienced before with seasoned ears.
NO WAAAYY I wanted you to listen to Dark Saint so much in the last weeks but I thought it wouldn't happen anytime soon, what a nice Christmas gift, time to watch it o/
Beat Lost Odyssey this year and loved it. It's interesting you gravitate towards the guy on the artwork - he was designed by Takehiko Inoue, a famous Japanese manga artist, who was hired for this game for his ability to capture people! Also, he did cover Howl of the Departed with his second band Earthbound Papas, under the title "Bon Kon Ho Ko" (the OG Japanese title). I always love the Lost Odyssey reactions, can't wait to see more. Merry Christmas!
Hello there Uncle Jesse. I´m a simple Man, I see Lost Odissey, I click. You just listened to one of my personal favourite Boss fight themes of all time. Lost Odissey is a game that I do feel fortunate to have played back in the day on my Xbox 360, alongside other rpgs like Blue Dragon, Magna Carta 2 and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The game had everything: great visuals, interesting characters, cool world building and lore, awesome narrative and a killer OST. Can´t praise this game enough and as thus, I heavily encorage everyone who loves rpgs and that owns an Xbox. One of those hidden gems that I would love if Mistwalker made at least one more. Oh well.... Maybe one day...... Cheers everyone, Merry Christmas and happy gaming to us all
Epsylon Range is such a vibe, I love it so much. Probably my favorite song from the game. Might be a wild take to some, with all the other great songs. I'm pretty sure I listened to it for over an hour on repeat after I first heard it in game. Dark Saint sure does come close though, it's absolutely amazing. It does kinda sound Castlevania-ish in parts, doesn't it? No wonder. I seem to gravitate towards anything that sounds like that. Thanks for reacting to these Jesse, it was a nice surprise. Made my day. Hope you really enjoyed these, and one day you get your hands on that Xbox360. Please join the cool club, lol.
Lost Odyssey is one of his most orchestral soundscape even though not every song is. Really blew my mind back then how much finesse the man could have when composing for symphonic pieces. I played this game back then, it was definitely part of the Sakaguchi games with a very classic FF structure to it, and it was a little gem with an interesting fantasy setting and unusual themes. Unpolished for sure in a lot of corners, but it was a really nice experience, and the soundtrack really cemented it for me.
Man, this game was such a fun experience. I feel like the music sounds different from Final Fantasy for sure, but it still somehow sounds Uematsu. Some of those crunchy, dissonant chords really give it away for me lol. Praying that "A Might Enemy Appears" is in your request list, too -- and that you CAN somehow play this gem!!!
To try and give a brief summary of Mist Walker as a whole: Sakaguchi left Square Enix after Final Fantasy: The Spirts Within flopped. He then contacted Akira Toriyama and Takehiko Inoue to create their own company, Mist Walker. They made Blue Dragon (Toriyama in charge of art), Lost Odyssey (Inoue in charge of art), and The Last Story (a wii game that was begged to come over to the west alongside Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and Pandora's Tower. Not relevant, just something odd.) Afterwards, they continued on by making RPG mobile games. Their latest creation was a remake of a 2021 game they made, now titled Fantasian: Neo Dimension. It's on PC and Consoles thanks to Square Enix, who helped in publishing it. Had to skip some stuff here and there to keep this short. Sorry for the wall of text. >_
man, Lost Odyssey is such a great game. it's really, REALLY heavy, similar to the heavy vibes of the Nier games. just the warning to bring the kleenex if you play it, because you will definitely need it.
If you want to know if you're gonna like the game, just watch the game intro and see if it sells you on it (but it probably will since it's still among the best openings of any game out there).
@thenonexistinghero imo its pretty subpar, i understand a lot of people like it a lot, but i found the story outside of the poems to be at best pretty uninteresting and at worst really boring and lame. its been a very long time since i played it, tho, so maybe id like it more nowadays
@@ninjabunny9526 I replayed the game a few years ago and thought the regular story was good. Combat was a bit slow, but I did like the combat system a lot. And the story is infinitely better than any mainline FF game starting from FFX.
@thenonexistinghero now THAT is something i dont agree with. imo ff12 and 13 have such better stories with more interesting and well-paced plots, more fun and deep characters, and much more interesting themes than lost odyssey. honestly of the "REAL" ff13s that people talk about Lost Odyessey is my definite least favorite. I think my biggest hangup besides the boring combat was how truly awful the dialogue was. it was hard to sit through at times for me. for any complaints you can give ff12 and 13, their dialouge was at absolute worst passable, and often tomes was quite well-written and helped its scenes flow better. so much of lost odyesseys dialouge from what i can remember is akward, stilted, and cliched. and i mean, even tho ff15 has an incomprehensible, awful story, its characters are written so much better (and performed better too) than lost odesseys characters. of course, i have to concede that it isnt very fresh in my mind so maybe if i replay it my opinion will change, but i remember getting so fed up with the characters that id start skipping dialouge at times with how annoying i thought it all was. really, lost odyesseys strongsuit is its good premise that its plot hard coasts on, its absolutely amazing collection of poetry, its high production value, its soundtrack, and its pretty good visuals. its plot is, without a doubt in my mind at the current moment, the worst part of the game.
Lost Odyssey is such a hidden gem of a game.

I did think the character looked like he was out of Vagabond
@ yeah it’s basically Musashi lol

Yes! I always thought Epsylon Range sounded like it had aspects of Under the Rotting Pizza. Glad to see another mention this.
Ooh I hear it 🍕
ABSOLUTLY and even other tracks

I saw that first song title and had to click immediately. One of my favorite songs from any game for pure vibes alone.
I see Lost Odyssey i click. Dark Saint is in my top 10 vgm's for sure.

I think I have to agree with that first point, 100% There's loads of good songs, but that one song in particular is one I keep coming back to.

Hironobu Sakaguci was the man behind this 4-disc game 😉
Lost Odyssey is my favorite game. Soundtrack this game: masterpiece!
I ALWAYS wanted you to hear epsylon range. Sooooo reminiscent to the Ps1 FF vibe.
Lost Odyssey 🤘 Sakaguchi and Uematsu 🤘 Trivium 🤘
Time to pick up that MailBox
fantasian also have good music

Man, Lost Odyssey, talk about a niche hidden gem lost in a Two decades old machine 😂
Anyone knows what the background music is? It seems very familiar to me but I just can’t remember
The Legend of Dragoon - Hoax Village
Lost Odyssey is the true FF XIII. So sad that this game is in the confines of Mircosoft since Sakaguchi has no plans bringing this to modern ports.
I always dubbed Lost Odyssey as the real Final Fantasy XIII. Plays very similar, created by the creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguci
It can be 11 12 or 13 yes 😂
It's the real FFXI because XI is an MMO and it plays most similar to FFX. Xenoblade 1 is the real FFXIII.
Lost Odyssey is my favorite poetry collection with a subpar jrpg included, which is a longer list than you might first think
The game isn't a subpar JRPG. The villain is kinda meh, but the rest of the story is still good and the characters are deep and complex.
@thenonexistinghero imo its pretty subpar, i understand a lot of people like it a lot, but i found the story outside of the poems to be at best pretty uninteresting and at worst really boring and lame. its been a very long time since i played it, tho, so maybe id like it more nowadays
