Thanks for putting this together, beautifully researched, separated and labelled accordingly. This is one of the best vocal range videos available - and a great tribute to an incredible singer.
great video, huge range and he's really good through all of it. He can go from really low to extremely high in seconds, looking his voice really natural and effortless. I think this is why he has become so successful.
It's never "falsetto" for him, it's "head voice" tecnique, the same of many others heavy metal singers (Halford, Dickinson, Tate etc.). "Falsetto" is the one used in the higher register by King Diamond, for example, very different in tone, espression etc.
mmmm yep you got the point, but also there are two types of head-voice; the falsetto is actually head voice, and the other "head voice" you were pointing at its the transition between chest and head voice which is harder to do than falsetto. for example Run to the hills, or i want out chorus.
Thanks a lot for this amazing collection of Michael Kiske's divine vocal performances! One other example you could have added as well is from Helloween's "Save Us": "Far from down below one comes prepared to take us all..." That excerpt is as equally impressive imo.
Several singers have a wider range (both on the bottom and the heights), but one of Kiske's main accomplishments and virtues is the ability to easily go from head to full voice (and vice-versa); they are connected like hell and his voice always keeps its spectacular shape. You can hardly tell the exact moment where he switches, and thus sounds so natural... As an example, pick Deris... he's good but come on, that head voice is so inconnected that tends to always sound like raspy falsettos
Hope this helps, but actually his highest note with full voice ends up in D5, like in Your Turn... all the notes above seem clearly head voice (included the ones labeled as "falsetto"). There are even some lower than D5 that still sound very head-voiced (it depends on how much he has to sustain, the vowel he carries on, the former and the next phrase, etc). I.E: the C♯5 from Place Vendome.
I match the tones with my own voice and pitch them using a tuner I have on my phone. Sometimes I can do it by ear, but I always check it on a tuner anyway. Sometimes I use a keyboard if it's particularly tricky in the low registers, or is too high for me to accurately replicate.
maybe not but Kiske is way cleaner. Halford always cheats with his screamy voice. Many can do that. But blow full with complete control in a clear voice now thats a different story. Halford is a very overrated singer. Halford havn't sung decent live since 1990 anyway. While Kiske has kept his voice intact.
I keep hearing that kiske is a tenor, but he sounds similar to Geoff Tate who is clearly a baritone in that they both use a lot of twang and cry in their voices and use very open vowels to negotiate their bridges. Kiske’s voice does seem to have a bit of a fuller quality like in Sign of the Times though, but he struggles in his mid voice sometimes so idk.
@claudioa1978 Dickinson actually has the same amount of range as Kiske, at least on paper. Freddie's is a little bit less, C#2-F5, but still very very good.
I wonder how different Kiske's career would've been had he been taken in by the New York or Nashville music industry scene instead of secluding himself in Germany after leaving Helloween.
That would've been quite the spectacle ! But no, just thinking out loud - Kiske was tired of metal and felt limited by the genre (as he has said many times during interviews). Many great albums outside the country genre were recorded and mixed on Music Row, and still are.
The Kiske-era Helloween was an incredible match of gifted musicians and composers. I'm not aware of any metal band before them that wrote vocal lines to harmonize with guitar melodies quite like they did. They had raw talent in spades and drew inspiration from diversity to innovate. Chameleon demonstrated they were evolving beyond the genre. I'd love to pick their brains about the formation and arrangement of the first five albums ! Liked and subbed :) - I love technical analysis of virtuoso musicians, great idea thank you
well he was only 18 when he was signed with Helloween and was out of the band before he turned 25. If you watch his helloween concerts in the 80's and early 90's its clear he had little experience (only was in one band for several months before landing his label contract) but he grew into the role.
He is literally the best singer of all time. I hope to hear him live someday. His voice gives me chills everytime
no
One thing I say, michael kiske is not of this planet, fantastic !!
Thanks for putting this together, beautifully researched, separated and labelled accordingly. This is one of the best vocal range videos available - and a great tribute to an incredible singer.
The most clean vocal tune ever no matter low or high in the history of human being.
Vocal range: INSANE! :O
He is so wonderful
Absolutely brilliant work :) Kiske is the best singer ever :D
Being able to hit G5 in full voice is extremely rare for a male singer.
But I can still do it!
Its a mix not a full voice, none can hit a G5 on full 🤣🤣🤣

Ego Painted Grey He uses some mixed voice with a prevalent part of head voice...Also a lot of mask.
Pedro Reinaldo you can belt in headvoice

No dude, let's be honest to ourself ,he uses falsetto and he uses a looooooot!!!!
@prefer noto No dude, he uses a lot of falsetto.
that was amazing!!!!! love u Michael kiske!!!

his range is 1337 - over 9000
wonderful singer, no more words
Wow.. the lowest of lows to the highest of highs. He’s no doubt the best there is.
You should listen to Kiske's new album with Unisonic! He truly sings amazingly there (especially on the bonus track Over The Rainbow).
UPDATE!!!
Hes back and Helloween and now his high note is no longer an A5 is now a B5 at Down In The Dumps
What a voice!
wonderful work.
Kiske the best of all. Love u kiske.
Never realized before that high note in the background of New Horizons!

nice compilation!!
Kiske God!!
amazing
Indeed, when it came to the E5 area I had a lot to choose from. Save Us is a favorite performance from him.
11:48, like he's STATING: "Yes, I'm MR. MICHAEL KISKE. Any problems with it?" :)
I put Michael Kiske, Geoff Tate, Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickinson in one class of their own.
From 7:01 and on just take my money, i don't want them anymore...

2 sustained G5's in over the rainbow
Way better in every way than Elvis. So real, emotional, it makes you actually feel ! And meet Mary yourself. My respect for both KINGS !
okay let's not get carried away !
kiske is the best and now... in unisonic with Hansen!!!
that A5 cant be real, oh my freaking god D:
He's hit a few A5's....(only one in a studio recording...on 'Someone's crying'
Look up Tommorrows Outlook - The Ehtereal Dream (kiske version)
he does an A5 there.
yea but halford whistled the G#6.

he hits a B5 at 11:28! not just a G5!
That's the guitar, not his voice, the first harmonized G5 ends then the other one keeps going while the guitar gets up to that high note.
Epictemptation7 we meet again

@Stophocles Read the description.
@Elquetelopu Actually I've heard Bruce sound off quite a bit. More than Kiske definitely, but of course Kiske doesn't have nearly as much live output.
Can anyone tell pls what the are notes for background vocals during "Kids of the Century" chorus? Sounds amazing and very high to me.
Didn't know that Kiske can get close to Midnight from Crimson Glory.
Estoy seguro que en su prime pudo alcanzar notas mucho mas altas, en ese tiempo no se le escuchaba forzada la garganta, sacaba las notas sin esfuerzo.
I wonder how different Kiske's career would've been had he been taken in by the New York or Nashville music industry scene instead of secluding himself in Germany after leaving Helloween.
You think a German metal singer should have joined the country music industry?
That would've been quite the spectacle ! But no, just thinking out loud - Kiske was tired of metal and felt limited by the genre (as he has said many times during interviews). Many great albums outside the country genre were recorded and mixed on Music Row, and still are.

how do you know what tones he's taking? i've always wondered
@apati80 That's precisely what I mean
@zorland876 By higher notes I presume you refer to Dickinson's falsetto notes, otherwise I strongly disagree!
I came.
hey ! I have a challenge for you...
Tell us what Rik emmett's vocal range is.. it's extremely high !
please tell me about a tuner i only find online things of autotune :( i want to know my register with the tuner
12:02 alessandro conti are you? ;)
Conti não chega nesse tom com a mesma clareza no timbre nunca.
He's tenor dramatic or baritone? Because Tony Kakko it's high baritone and have the SAME register.
so i can use a tuner to look it up myself?
What an impressive falsetto this man had.
sorry for the ignorant question but ... what does TRP stand for?. Thanks.
That's true, this is rather outdated.
Where is the Bb1?? Or even the C#2.
wiki says he is a baritone, but... that sounds weird. Id rather find him a tenor
Why can't I hear the B♭5 all I hear is the G
Is he a dramatic tenor??
Yeap
