These comparisons are a waste of time. I love Kiske's contributions to Helloween and his voice really elevated the band to the next level but once Kiske was no longer in it, the band had to bring in someone else and Deris has a done a great job fronting this legendary band.These guys are just two different chapters of the same fantastic book.Cheers.

Deris is a good singer and so is Kiske. I love Deris on If I Knew, but I love Kiske on I Want Out. Deris is good for his own songs. He's not meant to sing I Want Out. That song and the earlier generation of Helloween songs is meant for Kiske. Deris hold his own in the The Time Of The Oath album. Both singers are great for me. Lets enjoy them.

Ofcourse Deris , his Voice is more melodic and flexible! You can feel the song's soul when he sings. Great musician and songwriter too. Amazingly performing on stage! He has changed and renewed Helloween completely! Respect to Kiske as well. He is also good, but only in high pitch, and lets not forget that he almost killed Helloween. Basically for me Helloween is Andi and Andi is Helloween!

Michael Kiske por ejemplo, tiene una voz casi perfecta, clarisima, con agudos y graves increibles, pero como dijo Michael Weikath su voz se limita a hacer voces raspadas que requiere muchas veces el heavy metal.
Andi Deris, si bien su voz es muy completa concordando con lo que el heavy metal requiere, es limitada.
En fin, yo amo a Michael Kiske y recordemos que la mayoria de los exitos de Helloween son cantados por Michael, uno de ellos mi favorito I want out

They are both fantastic singers... usually I have problems when I love a band and the singer changes... but Andi Deris convinced me totally to replace Michael Kiske.
The biggest thing is: Michael Kiske recorded is one of the best, on the stage is simply unbelievable!!!
Well I'm a huge fan to Helloween, I like both Kiske and Deris. In my opinion Deris gave more "musical" and rich sound to Helloween since he joined - very talented composer and musician.
Pt.2.: Andi "Mr. God & The King for a 1000 years" Deris:
- Brilliant voice, colourful and unbelievable voice in every tunes!!!
- He loves Metal and he is proud that he's the singer of Helloween.
- Has 9 (!!!) full-length and more other records with the band, all the records are PERFECT with him!!!
- Wrote a lot of lyric and music for Helloween.
- His own works are awesome too!
- He is a great performer on the stage!!! (I saw both of them on stage with Helloween, believe me!)
I reckon Michael has a clearer voice and can reach a higher range better than Andi, don't get me wrong Andi is good, but Michael is better in my opinion

Honestly both are excellent, though each has its uniqueness Kiske has a higher and more technical Andi voice.
Kiske put more feeling in music, who accompanied Helloween its start learning their letters and the kind of feeling that they go to a fan of the band, without a shadow of doubt Kiske was the soul of the band.

I thoroughly enjoy any singer that has sang for Helloween... one of my absolute favorite bands EVER! Others seem to have exceptional hearing to point out the flaws of each singer, Kiske and Andi are both AWESOME singers and I've rocked to all Helloween albums and different singers brought a new sound and made Helloween INCREDIBLE! I never judge a band on their lineup changes, but rather look forward to how they sound now and I followed Helloween from the start, since the EP, the artwork drew me to them and I drew a huge POSTER of it when I was just a TEEN, now 48 and still LOVE Helloween music and find it so inspirational and moving... THANKS HELLOWEEN and keep on making some of the greatest music in this CORRUPT world and the world would be better if all 7 billion people listened to you guys!

I think that is very stupid to copmare two different voices! Its not fair for Deris..... after all He must sing Kiske songs and they are written for Kiske voice. I wonder what will hapend if Kiske must sing Deris song? However..... in my opinion Andi Deris have an amazing voice and its saund a way better then Kiske ..... even in Kiske song! Kiske is too squeaky for me. Andi Deris is the best singer for Helloween!!!
You couldn't have said it better way! Both are amazing, what's the point in arguing who's better? (Deris is, for not having such a squeaking voice, just like you said ;)) In addition Deris is way better song writer :) Still, Kiske is awesome too, maybe better nowadays than in his Helloween era (less squeaky)!
Leena Saukkonen voice and song writer imho are dif things. Best way they could do is sing together. One of them has his own part. Imho it would be awesome

Eli Dobreva Please, pull the bananas out of your ear, and take some PROFESSIONAL SINGING lessons.Singing has strict rules to follow, just like in maths.No matter who likes what...For instance, I have been taking lessons for years, and I have asked at least 10 professional singers who tour abroad about their opinion...Guess what ? Deris cannot sing at all.I feel quite sorry for people who do not have even elementary basis and swear by Deris.

En realidad estuvo bien que hallan sacado a Kiske. Por su culpa la banda estaba al borde de la decadencia, y cuando Deris entro salvo a la banda en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, y ademas entro el mejor baterista de Power Metal. Si Kiske huviera seguido Helloween no huviese continuado despues de Chamaleon, o huviesen continuado pero con el rock barato que hacia Kiske, y Weiki se huviera ido al carajo.

Y'know, I've been a fan of Helloween for 8 years now, and I still can't recognize Kiske's voice until I'm freakin' TOLD it's Kiske, because he just sounds like every damned power metal vocalist out there; the typical, clear, clean, operatic, generic singing style. At least with Deris, he may not have the range or 'talent' that Kiske does, I can tell it's Deris from the second he starts singing. And honestly, I'd rather have that than just sheer range; every power metal singer and their mother has a 3+ octave range, but not many of them are immediately distinct enough to recognize in a crowd.
That's the exact opposite for me. I know the second I hear him anywhere. He has a truly unique Vibrato too. And maybe he is in the range of the same, high pitch clear voice like lot's of power metal singers like you say, but only he can nail his shit 25 years later live just like if he's 19 in a studio.
I agree with Dr.DemonHarlequin and DaFox. Andi Deris's tone is very unique (so as Kai Hansen's). But Michael Kiske...erm...sorry to say, he is bit boring.
Dear friend, I don't know how old you are but I can tell you this...I am 47 years old and I am helloween's fan for almost 33-34 years....back then at the 80-s NO-ONE AND I MEAN NO-ONE sounded like the way Kiske did....yes it is true that every second power metal singer sounds the same AND THAT IS BECAUSE EVERYONE WANT'S TO SOUND LIKE KISKE....Cheers my friend!!!!

Youngest Metalhead Deris voice not quite fit in helloween, Kiske is perfect and done best jobs with helloween, every true fan knows that, i do know that. Deris done only hit songs not best albums.
Sorry guys andi is far superior too me maybe it's my personal taste maybe im deaf but i find his voice incredible and unique. . Kiske is plain awesome too and has a gifted voice but his voice is just clean and extremely high, a truly exceptional and talented vocalist but pretty much very similar to the average high-pitched power metal voice. Andi really makes a difference despite his smaller range (though his high pitced peaks are excellent) . Well after all kiske has the most annoying vibrato i've ever heard.. Damn helloween would be a really boring band if he remained with them.. Deris apart from his writing abilities he gave the band the opportunity to exeriment and even specialize in other genres mixed with their classic power metal sound.. Up the pumpkins!!!
Sure Kiske has the better voice. But Deris is still a great singer and definitely a top song writer, specially when it comes to ballads. Kiske doesn't stand a chance against Deris in songwriting. If Deris had not replaced Kiske, Helloween would be dead since 2 decades.

Kiskes writing on his solo albums is fantastic. Really talented writer, in my opinion. Being a different genre doesn't make it bad. I don't normally listen to metal these days, but I do respect Michael Kiske for having the guts to make a pretty clean break from that scene and do something completely different, and doing a darn well job doing it. Also, his writing on Chameleon is damn near sublime, 'Longing' being a perfect example.

Readiness To Sacrifice in particular is a great record. Personally, I think that record is more enjoyable than anything Helloween has ever done.
Deris saved the band, Kiske almost killed Helloween after the two keepers because of his behaviour and bad influence on the band. When Deris came, the band turned from pop rock to Heavy Badass Metal.

The best Helloween albums are those with Deris. The Keepers are masterpieces, but I prefer albums that you have quoted. The Dark Ride is criminally underrated. Rabbits is a great album (the forgotten one ?) and Keepers Legacy also.The last albums is very good, too.
I think Andi Deris is the right choice, Weikath is a genius in choosing a vocalist because he does something very precise.
Kiske does have a shrill voice but there are so many and it's easy to find the type of voice like him. Compared to Andi Deris, he is very much different, even very unique in his technique and sound arrangement he has all ... not many singers have a voice like him he is very difficult to find. I think he is the hero and savior of this band.
I firmly chose Mr. Andi deris, he is the man.

Both have special and amazing voices but kiske has the perfect voice to sing power and Deris for hard rock/ metal, but Deris rocks on power too.
I like more Deris because of his different voice and his amazing performance live, he still can sing well (watch the Loud park 2012 videos), not like in the pink cream 69 and master of rings but his voice is still amazing... Kiske too, he's voice still incredible!!

I would have to agree and say Kiske, His Power and range is extremely rare. Clean Power as well as raspy when he wants it. If he was to return to Helloween he could sing every one of Deris's songs with all the right rasp with no problems. Deris Has an incredible raspy vocal style with great range and control. He does a great job at turning the songs written for Kiske into his own. He does them justice but he still isn't Kiske on those old songs. I personally love them both and would love to see Helloween go on a tour with all of Helloweens singers singing the songs they recorded with them. THAT WOULD BE AN EPIC SHOW FOR ALL HELLOWEEN FANS!!!!!!

Los 2 tienen los suyo, los 2 han sacado fabulosos temas, en mi opinión no hay mejor ya que tenemos gustos diferentes, a uno le puede gustar Kiske, a otro Deris y a otro Kai, Kiske no podría cantar power, ya que no tendría el mismo efecto, Deris no podría cantar Eagle Fly Free, ya que no tendrian los mismos efectos, Lo que quiero decir es que cada uno es bueno, no hay que comparar talentos ya que, los 2 son buenos, imagínate Power contra Eagle Fly Free difícil, A lo que quiero llegar es que los 2 son buenos dependiendo de tus gustos y como los veas
esta muy bien lo que expones pero haciendo una analogía con otra banda como black sabbath... se compara sus dos primeros vocalistas como ozzy y dio.... y en los dos si hay estilos de vos distintas en los mismos temas por decir el tema de black sabbath o iron man algunos les gusta mas la mistica de ozzy y a otros la potencia de dio.... pero ambos son buenos con los mismos temas.... ahora volviendo a helloween... andy en estudio es muy bueno con otro estilo pero su gran desgracia es que kiske sigue antando aun los temas de helloween por decir uno future word y le deja mal parado por que en vivo andy no llega a nada y trata de copiar el estilo que le dio kiske a future word... y también en dr stein y otros temas que vocalista en vivo que era de la época de kiske no llega y le ois a kiske y te deja esas ganas de gritar volve por que helloween perdió su pasado en ss temas nuevos no hay problemas pero andy no le da para entonar los temas de la epoca de kiske y una lastima por que la vos que tenemos en mente los amantes de helloween es kiske... pero no niego que es bueno en lo que hace andy ... pero helloween era kiske y hoy es una nueva banda no la de ayer por mas que toquen los temas viejos
We have some similar eternal discussion in Russia around heavy metal band "Ariya". The lead vocal Valery Kipelov left the band and created his own band "Kipelov". I personally think "Ariya" vanished after Kipelov left, and trust me: his voice IS magic! Some still enjoy "Ariya" with new vocalists. But in general it gave us two mega popular bands and anyone can choose which to listen to. Oh, eah, and I like Kiske more than Deris :)))

Agreed. Kiske has a fantastic voice. He's a great guy too. I met him at the Sonisphere in Madrid and he is a very guy normal with no ego. The problem is that he sounds a LOT like Tate and all of the other (classic) Queensryche impersonators. You really hit it when you said Andi's voice was "colourful". No has that sound at all. It has that biting rasp to it that really catches your ear. Plus look at the first two PC69 albums that he wrote almost entirely by himself. Awesome songwriting skills.

Kiske has always killed it, He is a god among men as far as I care.. The early years of Deris were mediocre, but he has obviously learned a lot over the years.. I saw them at Wacken 2018 & both of them still tear shit up. Seeing them perform together was amazing!.. Older & their voices have changed but still love them & they again killed it!

they are both unique musicians. kiske has incredible, easy to listen to, perfect voice. his music style was not only fantasy, but also more realistic, funny themes (rise and fall).
deris, as ive said is also unique. (we're all right?). he has strange voice (power), they're both great in their way and in their style. i dont like some of deris covers of kiske. and deris seems to have lost his voice with age. while kiske is still able to sing his songs.

Both are very talented and very good singers and musicians in their own right. Kiske can sing Kiske songs well, and Deris and sing Deris songs well. Of course Deris will sing 'Future World' and 'I Want Out' differently, because he's a different singer

Comparar a Deris con Kiske es un duelo de "madurez" que desde hace años debió haber dejado de importar. Basta con ver quién siguió con Helloween y los llevó a lo que son hoy. Kiske si bien fue un "padre" del power, es la típica voz power metalera a la cual copiaron todos. Es la típica voz repetida a la cual todos suenan igual. No le encuentro más valor que el registro alto al que puede llegar y eso, para mí, es algo a lo que cualquier metalero puede llegar. Basta con ver la inmensidad de bandas power que suenan igual en voz.
Deris por otro lado es único en cuanto a timbre, y sonido y respecto a la "capacidad". Ambos tienen la misma capacidad con registros distintos. Kiske canta fuerte y alto. ¿Y qué mas le queda? ¿qué lo hace distinto de todos los miles que cantan igual? ¿el talento? porque demostró que no lo tenía hace ya años.
Escuchen Pink cream 69 y Unisonic por separado. La primera con Deris y la segunda con Kiske. Ahí se ven los reales talentos. Como se dice acá, en la cancha se miden los gallos.

No quiero que consideres mi comentario como un enfrentamiento al tuyo, al contrario, concuerdo en varios puntos. Pero, respondiendo a "¿Y qué mas le queda? ¿qué lo hace distinto de todos los miles que cantan igual? ¿el talento?" y más interrogantes, la respuesta es simple. Él fue el primero.
Por eso las copias, por eso el renombre, por eso "todos suenan como el", porque él suena como él y el resto quiere sonara como él. Y tampoco quiero desmerecer a Deris, me fascina como vocalista, encuentro que le da un toque bastante particular. Los ultimos discos me hicieron cabecear duro y fue por su voz en parte. :)
tu comentario está completamente lleno de razón, además, me gustaría añadir algo acerca de "Basta con ver quién siguió con Helloween y los llevó a lo que son hoy", ya que muchos de los "fanboys" (por así decirlo) de Kiske, lo admiran simplemente por los discos "Keeper Of The Seven Keys 1 y 2" esos 2 discos son, en mi opinión, los que le dieron fama y prestigio a Kiske, y gracias a que Hansen influyó mucho (sino es que en todo) para que Kiske quedara como vocalista de Helloween en ese entonces, pero oh sorpresa, sale Hansen de la banda, y Helloween va cayendo en picada, hasta que terminan por echar a Kiske (sin referirme a que Hansen era el alma de la banda). A qué llego con esto? A que sin Hansen, Kiske no es nada más que una "buena voz", y de haber seguido Kiske en Helloween, la banda sería lo que es hoy Unisonic, que no son malos, pero es exagerado decir que "son el verdadero Helloween", por estar Kiske a la voz. Helloween se cocina aparte, y siempre nos sorprende con cosas nuevas, y nunca ha decepcionado a nosotros los verdaderos fans. Básicamente Helloween no sería lo que es hoy, y sólo sería una banda que alguna vez existió, y habría quedado en el pasado, de no haber sido por el ingreso de Deris. Kiske didn't leave a very good impression on me when he left the Queen Elizabeth theatre after preforming with Avantasia in Toronto for their Ghostlights tour. Back in the day i would have said Kiske.But after watching them live at wacken a couple weeks ago i say Andi hands down.He really saved "a tale that wasn't right" among other songs.Kiske is running out of voice and breaths easily.
You 're correct in most of your points, Bruce Dickinson is a baritone though and this is the reason why he sounds raspy on some high notes and why he uses more falsetto than most tenors.

If kiske is not so different from other Power Metal singers this is because they want to ding like him. Deris tried but he cannot sing the old matetial...he has to sing more complicated...needs more different approaches to compensate....more entertainment as his voice lacks of quality.
***** i disagree...he has not the same volume. All keeper songs are written for kiskes powerful voice. Kiske filled the songs-we got the right-eagle fly free-i am alive-twilight of gods- Look at helloween songwriting nowadays...more complicated- the voice is not there so they work with moods- more complex melodies-different singing techniques...actually the songwriting is at some songs better. ..f.ex salvation -power. Deris sounds nice and interesting-kiske blows your mind and soul away.

Michael tiene una voz mas clara y melódica y puede llegar a notas mas altas, pero Andi tiene una voz con mas caracter para el metal es como el rugido de un leon! Los 2 son enormes talentos!!!
Being a vocalist myself, I know that range isn't what matters in the long run. Kiske seems to think so. He also seems to believe that if you have as much vibrato on your voice as possible, you automatically are a good singer. Don't get me wrong. Kiske isn't a bad singer. But when it comes down to it, Deris puts (as one of you said) more emotion into his songs. And well, if we're gonna discuss range, simply listen to "Kill It" from Gambling With The Devil. Then come back and say Deris doesn't have the ability to do highs.

Para cierto estilo queda muy bien kiske y para cierto estilo deris es perfecto. Franca mente prefiero el trabajo de deris en pink cream. Pero en helloween no lo hace tan mal. Realmente ambos son muy buenos con sus propios trabajos.

James Galvao Word! Helloween was and is my fav metalband. Too bad Helloween ceased to exist after Chameleon(which wasn't a great album btw). Keeper of the seven keys part II is the best album they ever had and ever will have. Kai is also a great singer, i loved when he sang. But heck, we have Gamma ray for that ;)
