I had always hoped that you would review Portland! I bought this bag but in brown for $60 in store on sale. Felt like a steal!
I have the same one in cognac with a matching wallet. Everyone compliments it!

@@epmcgeeliterally nothing in the world is sold at cost. Mark ups cover all the other business expenses and allow a little extra to go into the owner's pocket since they are the one's who are responsible if it fails.

If you think about it, that's a $25 up charge. Very low. Most things double the price of cost so you get profit
You have to remember design cost, money, the people who designed it, the marketing to market it. The company in America was shipping and handling and all those things
It's probably only about an $8 to $15 profit range. Maybe less depending on how much marketing they do
I always love getting a clinical breakdown of whats going on with a product by a pro in that field i dont care if its makeup or motors or mashed potatoes the insight makes it interesting.

He just means that it isn't an artisan quality, as in somebody who is Apprentice. The craftsmanship can still be very well-made though.
Hes talking abiut the complication of how it is constructed. Usually bags will have an inside liner, maybe waterproofing, glued stiching, stuff like that. This is just leather hides stitched together with none of that so its going to be cheqper and easier to manufacture.
Thank you for reviewing this! I like about 45 minutes away from Portland and I do like to support local companies. The price point on the bag is something I can afford so I think I'm gonna buy one now ❤

As someone from the PNW it’s so weird to hear Portland Leather as a hyped new “online” brand. I still remember visiting their old caboose near the mall and looking at their bags and belts as a kid. Think they’ve locally been a staple for a while. (Was recently gifted an over the shoulder tote and matching wallet - I love them! Definitely has a little bit of a rustic/simple vibe in the stitching but the price is worth it and it’s quite durable and thick leather. Do intend to find a thick leather shoulder pad as I tend to overstuff and the strap is a little thin for comfort when heavy but that’s on me for I’m pushing the limits 😅

I love how an all leather bag wears. It just feels more Luxe to me than overpriced designer brands. I love Portland Leather’s designs and they are incredibly well priced.
I totally agree! I have a few of their bags and they are so well made. I just know they will look even better with age. I'm always amazed that things like modern Coach Totes and the Neverfull are so hyped and this isn't. My PLG large tote is a BEAUTIFUL and unique alternative.
I recently got a Portland Leather bag at a discount and i love it! I love running my hand over the leather to feel the texture. It feels so much more substantial and durable than other higher end bags Ive had and I bang it around with no issues so far.
I just got this bag in the Peacock color (and larger version), I love it. I have 4 bags from them. I love them all. But since I’m on a budget I only buy one piece at a time. Their almost perfect items are great.
I prefer a little color variation anyways - makes it prettier in my mind! 👍
Portland Leather Goods is my favorite purse brand. Such good value for the price!

I love my Portland leather bag-have the huge tote and I could pack for the weekend! Only problem is I placed it (new!) on a basin to wash my hands and did not see the puddle of water… so now it has some new character. 😖
I have one of their basic bifold wallets and love it. Hard to find a good full grain wallet that still fits in your pocket but they nailed it.

Portland leather has such great leather available in every color you could imagine. It was a dream going there with my mom as a kid
Best part is is that resale value on those things is almost twice as high as retail.

i have a bag and matching wallet i purchased from their “imperfect” line. over a year later, they’re still gorgeous and very sturdy. definitely broken in and could use some leather conditioner, but absolutely remarkable.
Love to see you sew one of these back together. Compare your assembly to original.

Does a minimal finish impact the durability of the bag? Like, would this bag start to show a lot of wear and scratches?
100% YES. He has mentioned this many times in other videos. The bags with more finish tend to be more scratch resistant, stain resistant etc., but they feel like plastic to me TBH.
People, for all the ones who keep saying everything is a rip off.
This does not included literally everything else.
Design, fabric sourcing, pattern making, sample making, QC, logistics, marketing, retail. All this is built into the price.
Got my gf a Portland Leather large tote style purse and she loves it and it's extremely durable. Nice full grain leather. And great price

Welcome to your new addiction! I discovered them in March and now have eight bags and bought others for gifts. They have sales all the time and the AP bags are often just as good as the Premium, so don't be afraid of them.
I always love going this store. Everything always seems very affordable and the quality seems great, don’t even get me started on the smells!!!!
I just bought one in a color they call honey. They run sales throughout the year and I jumped on the latest one. Thought it would be a great little summer bag. Love the leather and the simple design. Thanks for reviewing it. Also, I highly recommend it. Will probably buy more from them.

My brother is one of those “Etay Garage Craftsmen” and the stuff he makes lasts longer than anything I’ve ever bought from a store. It might not have been as pretty in the beginning, but at this point, literally everything leather I own comes from him. Wallet, belt, pack, etc.

I just want to throw in some context. I buy leather retail at Tandy and it doesn't matter what kind of leather I buy, and I buy all kinds, it's always costs me less than 6 cents per square inch.

I have three of these, and they are workhorses. Rustic design, but holds up well. The different colors do have different finishes. Some are more susceptible to scratching. The bags can get a bit heavy with the leather choice. I want to change the straps on a few of mine, but they are beautiful and last if you take care of them.
@@tanner.leatherstein I want to try a pebbled next! So far, I love that my deep green bag has this beautiful smooth sheen, and I have a tote in the light grey shade that is SO SOFT. It almost looks like suede with the shadows and highlights in the leather. Gorgeous!
Wow, what a cool way to support smaller brands
This is the issue with handbags these days. If they use veggie dyed full grain leather, they usually don't have a sophisticated design. Those bags are meant to look more rustic. We can't get good quality leather in a beautifully designed bag unless it's a custom order.
I have that same bag (different finish) and love it. I love the feel of real leather.
I have been interested in you doing a review on them. I have 2 bags, 2 wallets, a sunglass case, and boots. Everyone always compliments. I get all during sales. One bag and wallet I use every day and am pretty rough with it. Has held up really nice.

I got a bag from them via their less than perfect or flawed selection and it is beautiful ❤ it has lasted me many years.
I always tell people to look for YKK zippers when thrifting. This video validated me.
I have a portland leather bag and I love it sooo much. It was a "factory seconds" bag so the stitching on one of the handles has broken already but since it's etsy-level craftsmanship I was able to repair it 😂. They have a lifetime repair warranty if you can show them your receipt but I lost mine tragically
My boyfriend bought me one for christmas! Ive really wanted a good quality purse but I'm a cheapskate, so I didn't want him to go crazy. Turns out he did just perfect!
Now I just have to find where it went 😅

Have loved this brand since moving to Portland a decade ago. For better craftsmanship from a local brand-but fewer items from which to choose-I can’t say enough about Orox Leather. ❤️ PDX leather! Lasts a lifetime.

My wife has a small wallet from Portland Leather. Hidden on the inside flap was the Made In Mexico mark.

Do you think you can do this brand called nat & nin? I bought a bag from them recently, they’re a small boutique in Paris and state to their bags being authentic leather, I love the bag and looks amazing! They have a variety of designs/colors, but would love to see you take one of them apart!

People underestimate Mexican leathers but let me tell you something indigenous artisans make the most durable leather sandals and bags I’ve ever seen, those items don’t age and don’t patina at all, it’s insane, what treatment they give the leather I don’t know, but it’s durability is remarkable
