- After completing my recent video on tarp shelter upgrades, I spent a summer night camping in the "deluxe" all-season version. My plan is to come back in about 6 months and do it again, hoping the shelter will not have been destroyed by vandals or a heavy snow load.
Really awesome! Can’t wait to see it mid-winter!
This is a fantastic build. I'm a great fan of the "Alone" show and have studied theirs and many shelter built and displayed on RUclips. Your shelter design and quick sturdy construction would be perfect for the contestants on Alone Season 7. It can protect against snow loads, provide some protection from curious animals and has an entrance that can't be blocked by drifting snow . It looks like you use a 10'10' tarp and the contestants on the show have a larger one. Your design has the flexibility to support the tarp with three poles making an instant shelter while the main unit is constructed nearby. It is a winning design and should be used by all adventurers making a shelter. I would love to see a winter camp in it and you thoughts during your stay
Thanks.
@@overthehilloutdoors6779 Your winter camp out in the shelter was a treat.
@@williamhoover1515 I hope to see you on the next season of Alone. I'd like to give it a try myself, but I'm likely too old now to qualify for the show.
@@overthehilloutdoors6779 If the next Season is for "Overthehill" adventurers..I'm in, but I'm the same age group as you. I have tons of experience, skill and can do spirit..it's not the age it's the mileage. With that in mind your shelter should be copied by new members on the show.
@@williamhoover1515 My situation exactly !
I always enjoy your clips
Hobo stew sounds pretty good!
love you big fan
I like it alot. May I ask why the tarp is inside vs on top? I can see the advantage of not having to worry about the tarp being punctured.
Oh sorry I see now that Screw Tube screwed me out of your previous video. Makes perfect sense now. Much respect your way.
You’re right that log ends and sharp knots are more likely to puncture the tarp if it was on the outside. The outer log shell also protects the tarp from damage by strong winds. Once there’s a good snow layer on top of the log shell I have the option of easily removing the tarp from the inside and using it for a variety of other purposes.
Little tip next time pack some wide pop sickle sticks instead of that sharp knife
If you don’t mind me asking how long did it take you to build this shelter and No rodent problems?
It took me the equivalent of 2 long days to build the shelter, so approximately 24 hours in total. Curious squirrels dug holes in my shredded pine cone bedding one night when I was away, but no other animal problems.
