Even though i am now too old to do this, i have to say, having done this in my younger years, that your channel, Corporals Corner, is one of the best, why? Because you actually take the time to explain what shelter, etc, you are going to make and how you are going to make it along with all the items required to make that shelter. Then fire, very important as i love to watch the Food cooking aspect of these videos as well. Im an ex British Soldier of the '80's living in the Netherlands and really enjoying your posts. Keep them going please.
What's up comrade? I'm a cold warrior as well. An American army vet from the cold war and early war on terror. Look, your not to old. I hope you find a way because few things are better for the soul than an outdoor adventure. Peace brother
I was impressed with the stick that guided the water to a point at the end of the tent. Great idea to start the fire. Loved the food idea. I liked the tent idea. Great show.
That stick is such a great idea. So funny how a no nonsense simple idea could actually make a huge advantage. Was watching the “alone” series which is my version of trash tv. People who were struggling for clean water but had plenty of rain would have done well with that
I don’t know man. Seems to me like he doesn’t really know all that much. Some decent ideas but definitely an amateur and I would worried for him if he was out in the wild for a few days.
Im temporarily homeless so this helps alot. One of the the best survivalist/bushcraft/camping channels on youtube. I made an a-frame tarp lastnight and have another tarp and thick foam pad as a bed, along with a 30°F sleeping bag. Right now im working a job and nobody knows im homeless. Money goes alot further like this and this camping bushcrafting is really growing on me so that i dont know if i would actually want to get my own place when i have the money. Lol. Im an unconventional homeless guy because i dont use drugs or drink or steal but i work and keep my clothes and self clean. Plus i stay clean shaven and comb my hair in such a way that nobody would suspect im living in the woods.
@@recall5811 Hey Shawn! Just saying TY for going over how the tarp became more tent like. I wasn't sure the 1st time where it got tucked in & now I know, thanks to you!
I’m heading off to look for that same tarp. I need to master that tent tarp method. Thanks Shawn. By the way, your video was the first one suggested when I opened the app today.
If you allow me, I would like to make a suggestion for the future. With this outer tripod you can get rid of the inner post, there will be even more space and there is no risk of kicking it and knocking it over your head :) I tested after watching this material in May.
I noticed that as well. Though, he lashed 2 sticks together to make it long enough, not certain if it'd buckle if he tied off the tarp to the log or not.

Nice tarp shelter.. but it does require a nearby forest. In the mountains I've been hiking since I was a child there are no trees or sticks or stuff to help building a shelter. So I just bring a tent. Takes just a moment to set up. Any time spent will be in finding a good spot.

At last somebody who shows how to set up and erect a tarp tent, too many other people just show it set up. Love the video from across here over the pond 👍🏻
A really useful tip for a campfire in the rain is you could build another one of those spitroast supports, with the two Y -sticks and the cross member stick, about 2 or 3 feet from the first one. Then, lay a bunch of wet sticks or branches across the two. This will not only cover the fire and protect it from the rain but the fire will also dry out the wood pretty quickly and allow it to be used in the fire. So, as this wood dries out, throw it in the fire and replace it with more wet sticks/branches. I've done this countless times and it's always worked wonders for me. Like any fire, take necessary precautions and supervise it, and make sure not to have it too close to the fire or you'll have an unexpected bonfire.
At 4:17 in the video you described two ways to extend the "front loop". I used a forked stick. The fork rests against the vertical pole and extends out horizontally to push the front loop out. Cut stick to length to get the tension needed to keep it in place.
I'm sure even Marines had to learn to cut a shallow rain trench around the shelter, pile the dirt against the shelter to seal off the interior, and trench to the downhill side and away from the shelter? I'm from the Shelter-Half era Army, and this was absolute with the tent. I still camp with a minimum shelter, and have never been wet inside.
Loved the video, love the rain. Good clean rain is ever so much better than mud. Period. Thank you, sir, for the happy feelings! Fire, tarp == warm and dry, what more does a human need?
Kool, I’ve never used duct tape as a starter , I’ve used it to catch magnesium and lighter wood scrapings and on a windy day . Oh and dinner looks great !
At the 15:15 mark? How clean is that water running off a plastic tarp with who knows what on it, then rolling down a stick he found on the ground? I'll pack in water thanks, you can have this.

Kool, I’ve never used duct tape as a starter , I’ve used it to catch magnesium and lighter wood scrapings and on a windy day . Oh and dinner looks great !
really good way to collect clean water
At the 15:15 mark? How clean is that water running off a plastic tarp with who knows what on it, then rolling down a stick he found on the ground? I'll pack in water thanks, you can have this.
