Great instructional video again Corp. 2-4 peps with everyone having 1 light weight 6x8 tarp, good to go. I really like the way you teach and show us how we can survive and even thrive with just minimal gear. Can’t wait for all the new merch. As always awesome AF. Stay frosty Shawn. 👍
This is the first time that within 4 minutes of dropping your video; that I can see your views and likes actually increasing while watching! Way to go!!
Shared outings are always a plus. As you said, when everyone pitches in, it makes the work easier. Even very inexperienced people can be very helpful with a little guidance.
The one thing that is vitally important is axe or hatchet, maintenance, safety and technique. You are 100% correct my friend you really are. Plus I love the shelter that’s cool. Anchors Away & Semper Fi
That is the coolest tent formation I've ever seen and to build a little fire pit in between. Both sides of the shelter is amazing. I am totally impressed. You come up with some really good ideas.
Group shelter was a superb idea. Something new that most don’t think about. Tents aren’t always needed for camping, although how many campers end up finding out their rain-fly leaks in the middle of the night? Place this above a tent and you’re good to go.
I wish I had kept a small book of the "smarts" you have taught me over the past few years -- today I learned about how to SAFELY use the hatchet, had never heard of Pyro Putty, and I will have to learn how to tie up tarps that way. VERY GOOD INFO. Thank you.
I really enjoyed the simplicity of the shelter. Although I've never been notified by YT, I watch every Sunday as well as the mid week videos. Keep grinding.
This is good stuff Corporal. Also it can be applied to Scouts. I think if there was some content about Boy Scout patch requirements it could open you up to an even larger audience. Not sure it’s applicable but if so.”Go Scouts!!!”
Have done this exact thing several times for my family of seven when the kids were smaller and wanted to go camping and fishing. Great video. Semper Fi.
As the father & leader of a three person family, I’ve agree with the mentality of applying the principals learned to a scale that is appropriate for my “group”! However, I thoroughly enjoyed this demonstration & the ideas of “group” settings! THANKS CPL! 💥💪🇺🇸
I met a man this week who served in the Marine Corps several years ago. He was in the process of tying a knot… one of your knots. That’s how I found out he was a Marine. I introduced him to your channel. He spent nearly a hour showing me how to tie knots. He was very excited to talk about his service. Thanks to all who have worn the uniform of our country. He is currently a physical therapist.
“They’ll be loads of compromisin’, on the way to ( our ) horizon “ by Glen Campbell. Relax and keep payin’ skool lunch tax- yet only for Jewish or true church Christian kids . These are the types of shelters and fires more likely to save lives in a crisis, than all those complex, large- tools -required types often touted for "survival". If someone in the group is injured or getting hypothermic, this would be an ideal way to maximize resources (including limited firewood) and have group members close enough to keep an eye on each other for safety, provide medical care etc. THANKS for showing this! 👍
And sometimes something may be so easy that someone doesn't think of it. It can be easy to fall prey to overthinking a situation. We all need a reminder sometimes to not do so. Great video. Semper Fi!
A good tip to remember for this type of fire and camping, is to make sure not to burn too much pine or other woods that will send sparks flying into your tarp or blanket etc. Hardwood would be best.
Great episode as always! There are those that get fame from publishing the common works of people over thousands of years and THEN there are those like you that go outside the box and actually give great examples. And congrats on your new endeavors!!
I am finally glad to see common sense used when putting up a ridge line to hang a tarp. For years I’ve been wondering why people have been making it out to be some a big production with having to prep your line and use an assortment of fancy knots. KISS. Love the fire in the center of 2 tarps. Minimal cost and gets the job done. Keep up the great job!
Great job clearing briars instead of taking the easy way out and doing this in a previous spot. This was really an interesting project and shows what you can make for not a lot of money if you have the skills.
Sir, I’m here to tell you even if you are just hanging a tarp there is still valuable information to be had. Another good video. Thank you. Happy Birthday Marine. Semper Fi SSgt B.
Great video this week. Several skills in this one. You always come up with a fresh idea. Looking forward to all the new things you are doing. Good work this week. Thanks for all you do.
This is a shelter i have done with my kids before. Its one i think more people should do since it keeps you warm and dry while keepingnut smoke free and using far less wood than having a fire out front.
Excellent idea to show a configuration for a small group. Such ideas are welcomed since a lot of us have a family & it's useful to know how to protect & make such shelters in case of emergency. Thank you again Shawn. Wish the best in your endeavours!!!
Thanks bro . I’m a family of 5 always wonder how I could manage if the crap hits the fan. I have a tarp and gear . Guess I’ll get 4 more tarps for the rest of the gang . Thanks for the video.
I have a large family myself. They are grown now, but I always made sure everyone had their own bag. Now I didn't know as much back then that I know now, so the bags weren't what they should have been. Corporal has taught me a lot. But if everyone has their own bag then you can't go wrong. Kids are grown, but they have bags, and have bags for their families.
I live in Alaska and my family has been camping in the woods for 60 years and we have never worried about bear attacks. We keep our camps clean and smoke fish away from camp.
If you don’t watch you don’t learn. This is exactly why you shouldn’t completely give up on knots. I’ve learned how to make my quick deploy ridge line on your channel along with a few knots, I only use a few at most but yeah don’t give up.
Love it, this is definitely a practical skill that has drifted away since tents have become lighter. Back in the days before synthetic fabrics *this* was how a lot of military and scouting camps worked, everyone carried something that could be used for shelter but was optimally useful when combined with someone else's same gear. One thing I might add to axe safey is "work gloves and eye protection if you've got 'em." I get that there are a lot of situations where one might not have a pair of leather work gloves, or maybe the weather conditions make using them difficult, but I tend to throw a pair in my truck and keep them in my back pocket if I'm out in the woods because sometimes there are situations where touching something probably won't harm you, but it would be safer to touch (or I'd be less likely to end up with a rash or blisters or scrapes or splinters) if I wore gloves. If you're out in the woods with all kinds of soil and airborne and waterborne microbes, you'll generally be fine if your skin remains clean and unbroken, but it doesn't take long for a cut or splinter to make life miserable and compromise the use of a hand, even with good first aid. Same deal for eye protection. You mostly will be fine without it...until you aren't. I live in an area where wildfires are common, so N95 masks and a pair of goggles just live in every emergency kit I have. I wear glasses, and with all kinds of woodworking with cutting tools it is just safer to have some basic protection in case something I chop with an axe, shovel, or baton with a knife flies at my face unexpectedly. It's not something I'm going to get big mad over that most of the outdoor channels don't include eye protection with axe safety, but having done hobby woodworking and landscaping/gardening, I definitely have averted some SERIOUS accidents with these two pieces of kit. They weigh almost nothing, and are the kind of thing is us better to have and not need than need and not have. I would also argue they are great to have in any emergency kit generally.
I do my own variation of the "Double Lean-to", as with yours, one which allows for a heat. I posted a video of that variation a good decade ago, and we've used it on multiple excursions since. So I can attest to the efficacy of using a double lean-to. As always, you do great videos!

If you all had ponchos you could use them over the ridge and opening. Branches and duff blocking the openings also would kerp heat in. Great idea for the cooler weather. Thanks for the content
Rather than feed thru each grommet I tend to use a toggle in each across the ridge line which allows me to tighten in 1/2 the time and make takedown and re-use of all materials fast .....
If you hang the tarps so the ridgelines are on the opposite sides of the tree, one above the other, it will create a ridge vent of sorts to act as a rain resistant chimney.
I was going to suggest this too. I think William meant to write "ridgelines are on the same side of the tree" -- one directly above the other, so you have a smoke exit, but with more protection against rain.
@kentmulter No, I meant if you put the ridgeline for the right hand tarp on the left side of the trees, then go 6" above and put the ridgeline for the left hand tarp on the right hand side of the trees you will have created an overlap to keep rain out but let smoke escape.
I've seen you use that weed Wacker several times... it reminds me of one of the first times as a kid in the 70's that I experienced hard work. My Dad had one of those and had me work on parts of the back yard.
If you want a good free fire tender look no further than the lint from your drier. I have some old small cans that used to have wax in them and now I stuff it with lint. It works very well.
I love the super simple builds! You’re my go to, to find shelters for my get home route! Quick deploy, quick takedown and low visibility! Thanks for always being here Corporal!

Some of us even know how hard it is ti film.cut.edit. and post to keep channel content fresh. You're welcome for a whiskey at my bar anytime, sir.
I like the concept of making shelters by combining gear. The shelter with utilizing two ponchos was excellent. This week is just as excellent. This type of shelter would be valuable for sheltering a family during an emergency where help may not be able to reach them for two or three days. Say for instance stranded along a highway during a winter snow storm or avalanche. It pays to always be prepared for some type of emergency. I'm looking forward to looking over your branded gear as it becomes available. I know it will be quality stuff. Thank you for showing us the way to survive and Thank You For Your Service To Our Country.
Is it possible to tie the left tarp on the right side of the tree but lower and the right tarp on the left side but higher. That way there is an overlap but still allows the air to escape at the top. Would that help prevent the rain from coming in the middle?
Right, put the higher one with its back to the prevailing wind so it has a chance to draw the smoke. I think if you had 6 inches of distance between that would work fine. Like anything else, test it in the field and confirm whether it works.
A CC sharp and pointy?? Ohhh I can’t wait for that. This shelter is so quick to set up I really don’t know why more people do instead of the complicated ones. I’m a big fan of poly tarps. Two thumbs up 👍👍.
Thanks for another great video. I like the new way you're using of setting a ridge line but must admit I'm still a fan of your older style and made a bunch of them several years ago after buying a roll of paracord and a roll of bankline. Gave them out to family and friends and traded a couple at a post apocalyptic festival I went too. I find it funny and sad how people try to put you down with remarks like 'you'll get attacked by wild animals', I once had to camp out next to an abandoned graveyard, I was more worried about zombies than any bears or other predators. If a person can't deal with the real and imagined threats of the outdoors, then they just need to shut up and stay away from those of us who can. I'm high in fat and cholesterol and my brains are old and rotten, no self respecting bear or zombie would want to eat me.

Sometimes it isn’t enough to make a solo shelter bigger. Logistically, sometimes it is easier to get a little fancy when you have more people.
For merchandise, how about making your own weed whacker, not with a full length handle but a part that jambs onto a sapling
I was thinking the same thing.
@@zoopercoolguy they are difficult to find, and the handle is easy to make on site

If you hang the tarps so the ridgelines are on the opposite sides of the tree, one above the other, it will create a ridge vent of sorts to act as a rain resistant chimney.

For poor weather, you can overlap the ridge lines by having one line higher by about 6” and then cross the tarps to the opposing side of the tree.

I don't mind crawling before I can walk
My son eyed my vintage hatchet on our last outing! Presented it to him as an early present. Now I have the HardCore! Awesomeness!
