First Night in the Cabin (I Bailed…)

- I head to the off grid cabin in the woods to stay the night after a day of working in woods. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse right as I was about to sleep and I had to bail. I'm glad I did in the end, but I'm also gutted on what would have likely been a really peaceful night in the woods!

Your health comes first.
Glad you bailed and are feeling a bit better
Mate, I appreciate your honesty and frankness in letting us know what actually happened. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being smart and cautious when you're ill.
Really nice to be able to sit back and reflect on all the work and laughs you have with your Dad, no one can take away these memories. Everywhere you look is you and your Dad.
Cheers!
Sorry you fell ill, and I'm very glad you were HONEST. We need a lot more of that all over these days. Best to your wife and hope she is feeling okay now.
Sorry to hear you weren’t very well but glad you were better for the Bushcraft Show, it was fantastic to meet you and your dad there.
Thanks for coming over to chat!
You made the right call. If you are sick, you need to be where you can assistance and maximum rest.
I hope you feel better and take some time to relax and get your stamina back. Lewes,de...u.s.a.
Your dad is so Awesome. Sorry you got ill hope your wife gets feeling better to. What an adorable cabin. Love nature’s concert in the back ground. First time watching, I will be returning. Stellar awning. Love that old porch light. Brooks, Oregon.
You have quite the animal orchestra going on in the background. I love it.
The awning is perfect. I agree, you would lose important sitting and hanging out space if you moved it plus the front door would be blocked. Great job
Glad that you recovered. Food poisoning is not fun at all. Your dad is great, such enthusiasm for living! You are both good examples of joie de vivre!
I could tell that you weren't feeling it. Especially when you hit the hay. Just had that look. I'm glad you're feeling better now! Your pops is a gem, btw! Cheers guys.
Don't blame you for going home mate, nothing worse than a bad stomach etc when you're out, definitely a good choice to go home!
It was also lovely to meet you at the bushcraft show, and now I'm a proud owner of TA Axe 069 :) looking forward to getting the sheathe for it!
Many thanks Jamie! Appreciate the comment and also the support in purchasing an axe. I posted out your sheath yesterday should be with you real soon 👍🏻
@@TAOutdoors awesome, thank you buddy! 😊
@@TAOutdoors I found out I have stage four lung cancer. I got really really weak and sleeping and started having pain in the back of my chest when you get sick and you’re coughing you don’t get lung x-ray. You get a pet scan so we’ll show up.
That's part of what makes your channel so interesting : the honesty of showing when things don't go as according to the plan. Thanks for sharing all of this with us.
One of the few channels I always hit the like button before I actually see the video. Keep it up and thank you.
Personally, I hit the like on all videos I watch as a way of paying for the opportunity to view it unless it’s offensive to me.🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
You look great TA and I really thought you were going to talk about seeing Bigfoot. 🤣
This was still an enjoyable watch even if it didn't go as planned.
That you made a point of being up front about the time lapse and detailed the reality of your situation demonstrates the integrity of this channel. Your character really shines through in your content.
Glad you're feeling better. Good luck with the road project.
Cheers!!!
That's what we like about you , honesty. It's not just about the video, it's about real life and stuff does happen when you can't go on. We need to realize that we are human and life happens while we are making other plans. Keep up the great content, hope your wife is feeling better.
Cheers Bill
I agree, food poisoning is extremely painful! But normally you are supposed to consumed minced beed in the 24h after it has prepared, once it's out of the fridge you have to cook it or throw it away... But I imagine the lesson's learned!
Give a hug to your dad for me would you
Love from France
Eat more curry
He might have been able to get away with eating it if it had been fully cooked through & held at a high enough temperature for 10+ minutes, such as in a Bolognese sauce or casserole, etc.
As hamburgers, the meat in the centre would have been less likely to come up to a high enough temperature, especially cooked over an open fire that would have charred the outside long before the middle was done.
@goreyfantod5213 Exactly!
Glad you're feeling better. I love the woodland series. Please keep us posted on how the live fencing is doing. Thanks
Thank you Mike for a great channel in every way.
Good to hear you are feeling better. We all understand that stuff happens. Continued good health Mike. See you soon.
Hope you're feeling better. Hope your bride is better as well. I really appreciate your honesty. I realize that that's how things should be, but they're not. Be safe-Be well.
You must live in a nice beautiful area or very close from the pastures, and wooded area. I've wondered if any of the land you build on is family owned. The various styles of cabins and living quarters would be extremely interesting and great for people to come and look at all the work that went into build close up. The overall concept of what you and your dad have done together is a bond and memories must feel great. I never had parents that did anything with me, not even fishing. I had woods right across the street and use to spend all day in them. Trying to build things with just wood , trying to use grass, vines what ever to tie things together. I'm 66 and still to this day would love to be able to know how to build and live off the land. Behind my home is a wooded ravine which I had made into a wildlife sanctuary. I see deer, fawns beauties to see their healthy coat shine in the sun and how black and shiny their hooves are. Wild turkeys from young to older following each other, raccoons, which they use to come up to me and allow me to feed them corn.mThat was years ago, they use to come up on my back deck. Id turn the light on open the sliding glass door and they would just stay there eating the corn off the cobs. One night I was out and the one that always came up on my deck was outback with 6 baby racoons where following her and I went outside they turned around to come to me. The mother just stopped looked at me, I wanted to pick one up but since she and I had a relationship I didn't, i told her she had beautiful little ones and went back to the deck. She stayed there wasn't watching me anymore just waited for her little ones to come back to her. She use to sleep in a tree out back for s number of years. She would lay in the Y shape of the tree in the morning then go up into the hole that I could see. Have possums, sometime the racoon and possum would growl at each other over corn, so I'd throw out another and one of them would go to it, usually the possum. The are Bald Eagles out back there are 2 nest close by. I've seen a red tail fox, numerous other types of eagles and other birds. I don't feel like I was a good father. I didn't do much with my kids. I was in a accident and recieved damage to back and neck had to have surguries. Being disabled made me depressed, anxiety real bad. I wanted to get out in my mind I wanted to get outside. I was healthy muscular always hiking, bird watching, well just animal watching. I look though the woods and catch movement and then try to get people to see them. I love what you doing what type of animals come around and do you see. How old is your dad he seems so knowledgeable and sure does his share of work that's for sure. Do you know about plants you can eat and medicinal use. Your dad at the end was talking about all the trees new growth. Any botanist or just love of Mother Earth and what she has to offer. We the people of the world sure have taken advantage of and abused her so bad we can never undo it, but She'll do it on her own.
I hope you and your wife and family are feeling better. I love your channel
Was awesome to meet you, your father and the family at the bushcraft show this year Mike.
Didn't evan realise you went through this.
Glad you're all good.
Here's to next years show and hoping to buy more gear from you.
Many thanks for the kind words! It was a pleasure to meet you, thanks for stopping by the stand.
Oh man, I hate to hear you sick. I think we can ALL say we've had something similar happen to us. (I know I can!) And you're right. You cannot help it when life just suddenly happens! Love your channel, BTW. Keep on keeping on, dude!
Danke!
Thank you!! Really appreciate it.
@@TAOutdoors Love ya, God bless you👍
I love your little cabin. Good on ya. Hi from Ireland 😊
Sorry to hear you were ill Mike. That's no fun when you're away from your home.
Sorry you got sick but glad you are better. Love your videos otherwise. God Bless you.❤❤❤❤
Sorry to hear you fell ill buddy, pleased you got better for the show. Was awesome to meet you again and to meet graham for the first time. New TA patch added to my pack 🙂 Hope the show went well for you and the axe's sold well. Laters buddy. ⛺️🔥🤙🏻
Thanks mate! Appreciate it.
Glad you made it to the Bushcraft show despite all that Mike. It was good to meet you and your family on the Saturday.
Thank you, I was glad I made it. Pleasure to meet you and so many other kind people!
Your dad is so Awesome. Sorry you got ill hope your gets feeling better to. What an adorable cabin. Love nature’s concert in the back ground. First time watching, I will be returning. Stellar awning. Love that old porch light. Brooks, Oregon.
Next time, grab a small piece or two of charcoal from the fire pit. Preferably cold and chew it up and wash down. It'll absorb whatever is in there and out it comes. Works great. Kid you not. Charcoal capsules are also great to take in your kit when traveling overseas. Trust me on that one.
Preferably cold ? Why not red hot , that would definitely kill any kind of bacteria.
@@RobertSmith-lq4kj Ha ha ha! Yeah right.
I get charcoal biscuits for my dog, helps them with dodgy stomachs
Thanks for sharing.
Good to see you back on your feet. And beeing honest about a bail out.
Have fun at the bushcrat show coming week(end).
was great to meet you at the bushcraftshow glad you felt better and made it
Thanks for stopping by!
Glad you got home in time and feel better. I also appreciate you putting this out and show that recording RUclips videos is not always straight forward. Love the cabin!
Aw sorry to hear this mate! Glad you are better and keep doing an awesome job on your channel!
Your a good guy ! I am am sorry you got so sick ! I hope you are better and continue to do your videos!
Argh!!! Sorry to hear that you got ill. Glad you made a quickish recovery.
Thank you for showing the reality of woodland ownership: even road construction and maintenance are required. It was fine to see your father again, at the end of the video.
Glad you're feeling better, hope your family either doesn't have the same problem or gets over it quickly. Best wishes.
I'm glad you are feeling better, Mike! Being ill is definitely no party, and having to drive while you feel like you're going to be sick is just awful .
I love your honesty, thanks for great videos over the years.
Been watching your dads fishing videos for ages now and only realised in this video 😂😂 great channels from both of you, keep up the good work!!
There so much greenery around that you can actually kinda see it on your skin in many of the shots. I'm glad you're feeling better!
Glad you made it home just in time. Great decision, and video
Sorry to hear that you got sick but good now you got better. Very brave to camp yourself. At least u can hear the sound of nature its cool mate
Please, please, please make a video of just the sheep and birds just being themselves. Love watching your videos and seeing all you, your dad and Jax do but listening to the sheep and birds was just so relaxing.
Yes your cabin need quite abit of cleaning or putting things into place. If possible have a place for everything and when finished using it put it back where it goes. Saves you from looking for things but most of all when you return to your cabin everything is in place so you can do the chores needed and settle in to enjoy the night. It's great to hear the animals and the birds singing during the evening and when waking has to be a wonderful thing to wakeup to.
Yes, that type of
Honesty among bushcraft RUclips’ers is strongly appreciated 💪🏻 Sad to hear about your incident, 💩 happens, glad to hear that you’re doing better and I hope the bushcraft show went well
Sorry that were sick. Glad u r better. Hope that ur wife feels better soon
Sorry you were sick.
I would love to see your road when it's done.
Glad you're better!
Thank you for sharing your video👍😊 that’s a very beautiful place. You’re at.
It's a bummer that what started as an overnight adventure ended as it did. I can attest that raw meat and room temperatures don't mix. Food poisoning is definitely no fun. It was smart that you headed home. Hope all is well with the wife and family. Cheers for better times ahead! An overnighter with your Dad would be a fun episode. He's quite the character.
Mike I’m glad you are ok I’m sorry you got sick. Be safe and be happy.
Glad you took the right decision and went back home for the night!
Sweet cabin, love the pull out awning, wow! ❤
You have a beautiful view! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Glad you have recovered Mike. Excellent episode.
Sorry you were ill mate! As always thanks for the content!
Thank you for talking on what you are doing. Some do not and it is hard to learn what they are doing.
Mike. It may not have been the video you wanted to do but at least it was honest. Hope everyone is doing better.
Now I'm off to your dad's channel, lots of catching up to do. 😀👍
Really loving the content Mike. Glad you're okay. I love watching bushcraft video - the fact that you don't swear is a huge plus for me.
I've sub'd and look forward to seeing your content. Hope you continue to be okay.
Sorry that you were Not feeling well. i Love watching your videos. praying for you to be healed and safe. Amen
Mike, sorry you got sick. But hey, it happens. I've got one of those awnings, and when I have to pitch it myself, I always attach the side poles first. This makes it "stiffer" when it's time to put down the vertical poles.
Glad you're better now, and there's always another opportunity to spend time in the woods.
It would be nice if you buy screens that hang with velcro and open & close with magnets (Harbor Freight). Keeps all bugs, mosquitoes and gnats out! Love the cabin! Yes hamburger meat can grow bacteria quite quickly when not refrigerated properly or on an ice bed while cooking (& covered).
Glad you are feeling better!
There's a stomach bug going around currently. My whole family (wife and kids) had symptoms in some shape or form over the last week. Our oldest and I puked a couple of times and my wife and youngest had mild fevers.
I'm glad you're feeling better.
Just happy to be here
Thanks for the video. Good to watch landowners fixing up the problems. The road work is up to you for sure.
I loved seeing Gpa carrying Jax. Always a pleasure to watch you guys.
I had the same bug! Had to bail from work, which I've never done in 40 years. It was brutal. Glad you're doing better!
The things you'll do to get out of helping the other lads work 😂. These namby pamby celebs hey 😂😂😂
Only kidding, you made the right call and I'm glad your feeling better bro.
All the best
I wish you and your family good health ... bless you ❤
20:26 I bet that outdoor light would have been handy here. 💖🌞🌵😷
Change the bulb to an LED it will provide more light and use a lot less power.
@@gazzas123 yes! But if you look at the time-stamped clip, it would help if he just turn it on! Hehehe🤫
Thanks for the video Mike!
I noticed that you cooked the burgers on a very hot fire that made the outside well-done very quickly, but the inside was likely not cooked. It caught my eye because I am very fidgety about eating even slightly pink meat. Glad you're ok. Lovely cabin in the woods.
🙀
Always well cook knackered meet! Lol! Sorry you got sick, you're a good man! Be safe!😁
Hi from Australia....Hope you're feeling better, I love your ASMR camping channel ❣️
We are glad you made the right decision or you may ended up in an ambulance!
When you mentioned about no bug in your cabin, I think of you could make two Mesh scene for both window in the cabin with Velcro on the edge of the mesh. An easy solution to keep bug from getting inside while your cabin have a good air flow.
Living simple and to get away from city or town living and to live like this even if for a shorter period of time is heavenly
Glad your ok man 😃
So glad you are feeling well again. Loved the video!
What you should do for the road is use the clay. You're essentially, wasting your time. Space logs down three to four feet apart. Then fill in between logs with medium sized rock, like (fist) sized. Then repeat the process overlaying the the gravel instead. Roll over the road with an excavator. Let the logs and gravel set for 5 to 6 day's. And add where it's needed or is the weakest. This what we used to get to tree's that needed removed before building the foundation and framing. In North Carolina the area is always in red clay. Real mushy muddy nonsense that turns into much. So try this? It almost always works for us
Thank you for sharing your video👍😊
That's a nice setup you have there.
Glad you were fit enough for the bushcraft show. We used our lose change to buy a couple of your patches, and ya Dad put it in his carpark box. (if the till was light) Very nice to have met you in the flesh so to speak.
Many thanks!! Haha Dad was very protective of his carpark box 😂
Thank you for sharing ✌🏽💖🤟🏽✨️🧚♂️
Glad your feeling better.
My other half and I got to meet you, your other half and dad at the bushcraft show, and have to say you were some of the nicest people we met there. You guys were so humble and spent ages chatting with us it was lovely. Oh, and the ta axe is awesome 👍
Many thanks! Really appreciate you stopping by to talk.
Mike, you really did not look well BEFORE you ate. Glad you were able to recover. Hope your wife and kids are doing well.
Bless you it’s lucky you’d got back home in time hope you’re feeling better
What you had is a type of flu. I work in a kindergarten and we have several rounds of this flu every year. It starts suddenly, vomiting, stomach pain, sometimes diarrhea and fever at the same time. It lasts about 1 to 3 days and is extremely contagious!
Are you a virologist or a doctor?
Flue may not even be what we have been lead to believe and contagion has never been proven
Bet you had the bio weapon didn’t for the convid bull💩
My mum had this about two weeks ago she ok ish now 😊
Yep, my grandson had it. Obviously food poisoning does exist, but I think it gets the blame waaaay too often
All those symptoms could be from a great many illnesses.
Yeah, sometimes depending on the bacteria you can start to feel sick earlier but whe. He said how quickly he was feeling bad it seemed kind of quick for food poisoning. Like I said depending on the bacteria you could feel some symptoms quicker but I ate food at a cookout that had mayonnaise in it and it had been sitting out that it was kind air temperature when I ate it and I got sick but it was closer to 20 hours or so when I got really sick. Especially with his wife getting sick much more likely some kind of bug that was going around
Love, love, love the cabin!!
Beautiful out there.
Sorry to hear you were ill. You were so excited about staying in the cabin overnight!
That posed 'I'm despondent' thumbnail though.... please don't become an algorithm-pleasing fake. Stay genuine as you always have done and avoid the clickbait. Your content speaks for itself.
Oh.
Hello from northern Canada :) Great looking little cabin my friend ! I like the live edge siding I just about did that on my cabin but decided on board & batten :) I done a lot of cutting last summer so the wood had time to dry , now trying to get it on before winter :) I live 100% off grid for the last 11 years & love it, Just trying to get the siding done it's been slow after my injury back on July 1st but slowly getting back at it :)) Take care stay safe"
I really love your "background" music. The 3 of us had dinner next door. At 2 am one of us ran for the bathroom. At 3 am another. At 4 am the 3rd of us was sick. Neighbors didn't get sick but her kitchen is the only place it could have come from. Lordy, we were sick. Heading for modern plumbing during a seige like that makes perfect sense to me.
