I'd say between, 1989 to 1993 is when Lars was at his peak with drumming. Whats wild, is that in 1989, Lars had only been playing the drums for barely 9 years. James voice was at its peak and peak in power from 1986 to 1996 maybe 1997. Metallica could NEVER not sound powerful from, 1986 to 1998.

I'll fight ya (sort of). Jason was THE best bassist for Metallica. But I only say this because sadly Cliff died before reaching his fullest potential. Had he lived, we'd never even have the Jason years. And Jason was with Metallica in their prime. 🤘🤘

Jason was the best bass player in Metallica.
Any bass player that can come up with a downpicking riff that even the lead guitarist cant really keep up with is a legend.
... and the vocals. Those backing vocals lifted Metallica to another level.
I love Cliff. The guy was amazing. Jason is different but also amazing. Rob is amazing for different reasons and is the longest standing bass player in Metallica.

The last year that Lars played/practiced as if EVERY show was his last show, was back in 1997. Since 1997, he pretty much stopped practicing and at shows, if you really listen, he uses a ton of drum fills instead of playing the actual part. Using drum fills is just so much easier than to play the real stuff. Kinda disappointing. There are a couple of videos on RUclips where you see, James actually getting frustrated with Lars playing.

That's how you start a legendary concert!
Quick technical off topic question about requests: Want to send you two some stuff in the near future as I've sent stuff to Suzi and Travis, but not you two. I was looking at the site for you guys and it sends you to the cart first whereas Suzi and Travis's option you pick a song first then go to the cart. Is that a mix up on the site or is it supposed to be backwards from each other? Just asking because I'm a little confused and don't want to fill out an order and not be able to have a song picked. Just making sure that's not going to happen so I figured I'd ask.

Wow I have to give credit where it's due that I think this is Metallica at their most intense and the performances are just fearsome, they were already doing Lazy shit like omitting the time changes that make up the most complex aspects of this song leaving out from the solo section into the final verse. They don't even bother trying to fake their way through it now, and while I understand it's difficult to focus while blazed on cocaine to an utterly ridiculous degree... You should still be able to play the songs you wrote on cocaine in the studio...ya bastards. Saw them for the first time in 86, by this point they were on their way to becoming something I just wasn't interested in pursuing anymore, but of course I'm in the minority as they've gone on to be the biggest metal band in the world for decades now. So, all's well that ends well I suppose. But I do genuinely miss the years that they were so different than anything out there, and so militant in their approach to not compromising. That mindset died with Cliff Burton.

@@Nissardpertugiu in this version, they tread through it by having Lars play straight thru in 4/4 which kind of makes sense considering there's a lot to go wrong in a live situation with something as hectic as that particular section. But it's not impossible ...it would just involve more practice than they were willing to put in. I will cut them some slack also in that in a live situation barreling through it in standard time probably added to the intensity and didn't dilute the forward aggression so to some degree is understandable as a compromise. They don't even bother attempting that section these days and haven't for at least a decade
