- In today's video, my Acura RSX Type S goes in for some MUCH needed Paint work! With the hood, bumper, roof, and spoiler resprayed, it looks better than ever! I also debunk the Myth of the RSX/Integra Type R vs. A Spec Spoiler debate. Enjoy!
With 190k Miles on my RSX Type S, the paint has obviously seen better days. Rather than getting a full paint job on the car, I opted to have the worst areas resprayed. Honda's are prone to Clear Coat failure more than other car brands due to the thinness of the clear coat and lack of UV protection. There's really not much that can be done other than a respray of that area. With this Honda project being less budget friendly, I bit the bullet and had Auto Express in Boise give those areas a fresh coat of Nighthawk Black Pearl! Dave gives us a quick run down of the painting process and what needs to be done due to all the rock chips. The Paint results are AMAZING!
Now it's time for the spoilers...and no I'm not talking about movie spoilers. In my first walkaround of the RSX, I explained that I had purchases a genuine OEM Honda Integra Type R Spoiler from Japan. In the time of it shipping to me, I also purchase a genuine OEM A Spec spoiler from my boy notunerhector. To my surprise, they are the EXACT same thing. No difference whatsoever in the part number, weight, look, etc. So I essentially bought two of the same damn thing. The difference between the eBay spoilers VS the OEM ones is the dip in the middle of the eBay spoiler. Anything genuine will have a smooth top to it.
I know this video is heavy in the talking portion, but I didn't have much time to film the paint process, just a quick paint update. With that said, I hope you guys still love the video. Next step is installing the A spec decklid and A spec spoiler on the RSX, can't wait!

So freaking jealous man. I have way too many rock chips for Doctor Color chip. I chuckled when you were talking about your identical spoilers because it reminded me of when I bought two exactly same Toyota Racing Development replica body kits in the same year for my Cavalier. I made sure to order the authentic Toyota Supra bumper signal lights instead of knock off Depo crap.

I love this, I used to have a 99 civic ex coupe when you had yours and your videos would help so much and were so entertaining. I then sold the civic for double what I bought it for and bought my realistic dream, a black rsx type s, salvage title that needed a lot of tlc but for less $ than I sold my civic for so it was perfect. I have put so much repairs and upgrades into that car to get it to my taste and driving shape, then you released the video that you also got one. I couldn’t be happier that I can continue to watch a series on my car, again from you lol. Such a fun car to own!
Finally a local shop that can do a quality paint job and not have orange peel for days!! Definitely going to check them out soon for a repaint
You know whats crazy that some people ask to have orange peel because that's how the oem paint came from factory so they want it to look as close to a oem finish that they can get so it looks like original paint.

I had a car accident yesterday after work. My daily is total wrecked. My positive car enthusiast attitude kicked in, "oh now i can definitely drive my ek hatch project car for 2years". My back and neck hurts tho.
I’ve been blessed enough to buy some cars new…nothing fancy. But twice I’ve had to run out while they are prepping the car and about to drill holes for the front plates 😅
I vote for the OEM A-Spec wing, if you decide to source any of the A-spec parts, it'll flow much better!

My nighthawk black 2006 Element EX-P is covered in that chalky looking clear coat failure. Gotta love Honda black paint, doesn't seem to last unless you baby it. Then again it was an Arizona car, but I'd rather have some clear coat failure than rust. Maybe one day I'll get it painted but it's on every painted plastic panel and while the metal parts aren't faded, (yet) 200k miles with many of those being in the Colorado mountains that's shot too. Even a big 5" dent in the roof from what I think was a massive rock that luckily didn't come through the windshield.
Honestly black Honda paint is just so delicate that unless it was waxed constantly, there’s no way to keep the clear failure from happening

Headlights just need to be replaced honestly. Micro cracking in the lenses

I'm really surprised you didn't make plans to do PPF right away. As son as you get those front fenders polished to the way you like them I'd go have the PPF applied asap.
You have to wait for the paint to cure for about a month before you can wax/ceramic coat/ppf it. Or that's what I've been told.
I don’t think I’ll do ppf but if I did I would have to wait till the paint off gasses
I know the paint would need some time, but I kind of made the comment because you said you were hoping to avoid new rock chips. The best protection for your investment would be PPF. I also made the comment because I know you have experience working with wraps so I know you'd understand the benefits, also why I said ASAP.

What website did you buy the OEM championship white type R spoiler from Japan?
That replica mini deck lid spoiler is the same one I have. It does not match all the OEM trunk holes. I ended up using flex tape to plug the holes on the trunk and then 3M’d the spoiler on
Yeah I figured there’s going to be some fitment issues with it
@@ALLDAYANTHONY I just use some plastic plugs match painted them and added a bunch of clear caulking from the inside and outside than wiped off any excess and after years they’ve been great.

I've seen some RSX High spoilers with a third brake light.
I know it's not OEM, but I prefer that over the third brake light we did get; on the trunk

I have a nice nighthawk black 01Prelude, I’m going to get the whole front end painted, lots of rock chips on hood and bumper so may as well do fenders too, have brand new genuine headlights to throw in at the same time.

Looks like most of the 2000s Acura/Hondas have clearcoat failures. I got my NBP Acura TSX's hood and roof resprayed at 140k miles.

There’s an actual TSB for many of these cars. I know my 2008 Civic has clear coat failure on the roof and on the rear spoiler. Unfortunately the original owner never took care of it so nothing I can do now other than pay out of pocket to get it fixed. 😢
If the detailing products available now were available then, there may have been hope. But Honda had some clear coat issues in the mid 2000’s that they did address
