    KEY is actually a really popular track with fans. I did not realize to what degree until I did the collage :) . Ross, YOU are not supposed to be distracted by the photos ... but I understand ;) .

      You should've known this was more popular. Evergreen it ain't. Hey & don't undersell yourself, photo collages are s'posed to distract you with their photos. I know this because that's why they're called "Photo collages".😜

    : Band-Maid's older, somewhat overlooked songs are going to be rediscovered for years to come. This will bring a continuous flow of new fans into their fold. Some of these tunes are heavy, hard punk rock adding a new depth of artistry to the Maids many fans didn't know they had. Of course, for Maidiacs, they always knew about these bitchin tunes long ago and still listen to them all the time. Thx, Ross!

    One thing to note that I have not heard you mention with a lot of early Band-Maid songs, is Miku is actually singing a lot more than people might realize. Occasionally, quite a bit of a song will be Miku, but either reactors do not know this and are just assuming it's Seiki, or for some reason they simply are not saying anything when/if they recognize this. (and I'm not talking just harmonies, of course)

    • @greylocke100
      @greylocke100 2 месяца назад +3

      I wish they would add some more songs with Miku sharing more of the vocals. She has a very lovely voice and it hits just right when she sings with Saiki.

    The Maids participated in the arrangements, it's mentioned in the MIJ booklet. This is why even if they haven't composed anything, the Band-Maid sound is already present. Key is number one, but could that change? I'm looking forward to the next vidéo, K-Ross. THANKS.

      I think so too. But wonder if that is colored by having seen a live video of Be OK, and not for Key? Many overlooked songs tend to not have a video, or a hard to find video.

    • @chalfo
      @chalfo 2 месяца назад

      @@DAVID-io9nj Very true (although I'm sure I've seen a video somwhere - maybe a fancam) as I tend to be a visual appreciator of muisic, understanding it better after seeing it. Don't think it would matter in this case though, I think the simpler, straight forward, catchier, faster tempo wins out this time as far as ranking on my favourites list goes. Having more complexitiy, dynamics isn't an automatic bump up the charts for me.

    The best thing about these collages by Panic is that they show the Maids as everyday young Japanese women... until they start playing their music. They then become burgeoning superstars. What an amazing and serendipitous gathering of artists. The stars were definitely aligned when they found each other. Every Band-Maid I hear makes my heart happy.

    Miku started this song with the first 2 lines, then next 2 was a duet and then Saiki took the last 2.... in the first verse. Same with the 2nd verse. There IS A LOT more Miku vocals on the first 3 "mini albums" than what alot of people realise. She sings a whole lot more "then" to what she does "now". If one listens enough, one can tell in the vocal timbre. And there is quite a few dual vocal songs to come.

  • @DavidMISAMISAMISACook

    MISA MISA MISA!!!!! Ok a couple of thing before I forget 1. Miku probably sang 50% of the verses not much (if any ) of the choruses yet not one mention of her singing 2. Avril is the POSTER CHILD of Skater Punk Neo(pop) Punk is more Greenday, Blink182 etc. 3. This song is in my top 3rd Band-Maid songs.

    Perhaps knowing the background of the band makes me biased, but whenever I hear these early songs, all I hear are Nickelodeon sitcom rock songs played by musicians who are desperately trying to breakout and really rock

    So - I confess that I've sort of avoided your rankings because I couldn't bear the idea of picking my "least favorite" - I think it might kill me. The way you're doing it isn't so bad though - although eventually you'll wind up with a bottom ten. So - even though I'm NOT a fan of "ranking" maid songs (I'm very much in favor of the notion that you don't critique their songs - you simply bask in their sonic splendor) - I suppose I can handle watching you rank them. Since you are a true Maidiac after all and therefore your heart is in the right place.

    "Pop-Punk isn't Skate Rock to me. Pop-Punk is Avril Lavigne."
    Avril Lavigne, for those who don't know, is known for the hit song *_Sk8er Boi._* 😝
    The problem with "Skate Punk" is that, like "Grunge" or "Nu-Metal," is that it is an arbitrary catch-all that is a tied to a time rather than a sound. Like, "Skate Punk" is just a collection of songs that are either Thrash Punk, Surfer Rock, straight up Pop-Punk, Hardcore Punk, Punk Rock with a singer who (intentionally) doesn't sing clean, or Ska Punk. The term means nothing musically, it's just a feeling. Like, take Sk8er Boi and Bad Religion's Infected or 21CDB and is there much of a difference other than gender and raspiness of the vocals and a decade's worth of advancement in post-production? There's really not a lot. Like, have The Offspring always been Skate Punk? Most would say yes, but their sound went from Thrash Punk to Punk Rock to Pop-Punk, dabbles in Ska Punk for a song, back to thrashy and then just hopping between sub-genres sometimes song by song on an album, but were they ever not Skate Punk? Goldfinger, one of the most widely recognized Skate Punk bands ever and their most popular song is Superman, which is straight up Ska Punk. But that song? Like the biggest song on Tony Hawks Pro Skater soundtrack lol. Like Superman could not be more different than The Kids Aren't Alright, but they're both Skate Punk. You know what I mean?
    Perhaps you like punk that's less "hooky?" Or maybe that pop-punk instrumentation is more in service of the vocals, whereas NOFX or MxPx (maybe the closest sound instrumentally to this album???) have instrumentation and then the vocals just kinda do their own thing and are not necessarily in sync melody wise? That's not a diss, btw, that's just the best I can articulate the difference. Or maybe it's just straight up voice or autopitch or lyrics or subject matter preference? Before Band-Maid, my favorite band was The Offspring and Sugar Ray before that (and most people don't know before they hit it big Sugar Ray were funk metal which is heavily influenced by thrash punk. Check out Cash if you question the connection).

    If you were ranking songs per album I believe you could do it. But aren’t you ranking their whole discography? Did I misunderstand?Difficulty level: FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE
    Pop-punk to me is kind of a broad category. Avril for sure, but also bands like Blink-182 and Green Day. I see what you’re saying about it sounding like skate punk though.
    I’ve probably said this before, but I feel like this is a wildly underrated album. Is it their least mature work? Yeah. Is it before they started doing hard rock? Sure. Is it missing, or only hinting at, a lot of things we’d later come to expect (changed 2nd verses, etc)? Well, yeah. But they still sound like themselves. And it’s still a pretty good album, especially for a newly-formed band that didn’t quite know how to sound and used leftover songs for their first album.
