      @@aaronrutten I'm using a Cintiq 16 and I don't think I'd want a larger tablet display with the same resolution.
      It's hard for me not to compare this to more pixel dense laptop displays - especially at the big price premium over the Cintiq 16.
      Because I draw closer to the screen than I use a monitor generally, I think I'd want more resolution in a drawing tablet over a similarly sized monitor.

    • @3polygons
      @3polygons 5 лет назад +3

      @@randommcranderson5155 (and others) In general, drawing too close to the screen is not healthy for several reasons, one of the main ones being your eyesight care (hear me well, I had eyesight as sharp as to pass the air militar academy exams (I didn't go there, is what my oculist compared it too as a teenager) and after tons of years working, first ones not being very careful, at 46 I can't read cr4p without glasses, my 75 year old mother has sharper eyesight now ! ). The distance being at least the length of your flexed (in a wide angle) arm, and the wacom cintiq - or whatever- at a 45º angle, or more vertical, to keep your back straight, neck straight and muscles of both fully relaxed, like resting back, instead of any of the two slightly inclined forward (as then all gets in tension).
      And super important, the muscles besides the neck, 100% relaxed.
      So you don't get that close to the screen. If need detailing, do digital zoom, but you need that way less with a 22 (and even less with a 27), and indeed, you will see yourself naturally drawing from farther than with the 16 that you might be using. 8 hours a day (or more) with anything between 12 - 16, has led to certain important problems to enough people I know as to warn it here.
      With the proper body position, not only your protect more your general health, including longer sessions without pain or tiring sensation (you should make frequent pauses and stretch legs and arms, tho, place the eyes in distance points, etc), and you allow better global view of the piece, essential for good composition of the art, AND allow drawing better from shoulder or elbow... you are at a larger distance from the screen, and then you don't really notice the pixel.

I have some good advice if you are planning on getting a 1300+ model.....get some clear acetate plastic the kind that you use to laminate paper but don't put paper in between the acetate just melt it together with the machine like the kind they have at school and tape it to the screen. I once got a small scratch on my tablet and after that i said no more. It was worked great with no degradation in quality or sensitivity.

    Cintiq 22 (21.5) arrived just the previous day, very excited, i am replacing the wacom 16, my first ever cintiq thought was a first generation cintiq 21UX and i never enjoyed the big brush strokes back then, the feeling of the pen wasnt that good, the pro pen 2 makes all the difference in the newer models, it is enjoyable to draw in this size, the weight is indeed an issue, since i have to store it vertically in the end of my drawing desk and deploy it in front of me when working on it, and it is, yes, a bit heavy. Overall, very happy with my decision to move to the new 22 model.

    • @queertales
      @queertales 5 лет назад +3

      @@toy-bear-1077 The Cintiq 27 is bigger and has a higher resolution (2560 x 1440) and wide color gamut at 97% of AdobeRGB, but less pen pressure at 2046 levels, and doesn't come with a stand.
      The new Cintiq 22 only has HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 and 72% AdobeRGB color gamut, but has the new pen with 8000 pressure levels, and comes with a stand.
      So it's basically a bigger and better screen with the 27 vs a better pen with the 22. Personally I would go for the better screen, as once you're up to 1000+ levels of pressure, the difference is not that significant.

    Hi Aaron. I just discoered your channel and I found your videos amazing.
    I have an honorable 5+ years Wacom Intuos Pro Medium, and I was thinking to upgrade it to a display tablet...
    ... but I'm really torn apart between the Cintiq Pro 16' (... the most I could pay for a pro version... the 24' is FAR OUT my budget), to have, even in the smaller one, the best possible color performance/actual 4k resolution, but the same problem to be relegated to a small screen (... with the risk of cluttering the display in some drawing software) or this Cintiq 22', just for enjoy more display space/save some bucks (with the bonus of the built in stand), at the cost of color performance/resolution.

    6:50 This is not completely true as the resolution determines active area on the screen. The UI elements are scaled at the same ratio as the drawing area if the resolution remains at 1080p. This can be offset by some screen scaling options, but that is not supported in all software. The 22" would still provide a larger drawing area as the pixels themselves are larger.

    Wow really?! Wacom made a 22 inch entry version? I'm impressed . Very glad they went with separate cables. Also shocked they have a stand for it - disappointed there is no feet. I do like that angle to draw on. It makes me happy to see Wacom looking out for beginner artist and to compete for that market.
    For 1200$ I gotta say thats really good. My off brand (that we will not disclose lol) was around that size. Stupid huge and what did I get? A bad experience. Died in a month and so on. It was 900$ too. If I was making a choice on a tablet and I wanted a BIG one - god damn wacom really have stepped up.

    Excellent review, and thanks for the heads-up (I was unaware! :O ). I guess then the color calibration situation is similar to the 16 model : Fairly accurate by default, getting very good once calibrated. Is it ?
    Now, I have to give it to Wacom. We (me, personally, in their official channel, did so) had prayed for a 22 model in the affordable line. And they have pretty promptly delivered it. Surely they have seen the obvious market and competing advantages of it to take the decision, but nonetheless, is an extremely positive move for us. 1200$ (1067 euros, at this very instant) is within the reach of most freelancers. :)

      Thanks! I just need to figure out the best way to stream the SNES output and I will make a painting video with Mario Paint. Framemeister seems like a good option, but it's quite an investment. I wonder if you have any recommendations for how to convert SNES video output to HDMI so it can be captured. From what I understand, an upscaler would add the benefit of less latency, but I'm not sure if that really matters for a drawing game.

      @@aaronrutten I have an extra rca input capture card but its PCI which is legacy now days I should have sent that too, but your motherboard may not have a pci slot, I found an rca to hdmi adapter, that might work if your using a capture card to stream

    They could've threw in a few velcro straps... my Cintiq 20wsx came with one...
    Here I am trying to get a defect free 16" in the past 3 months and 6 units. And new larger cintiq comes out... I fully expect this model to have the same Dust and Dead Pixel issues as with the Cintiq Pro 24", Cintiq Pro 16", and Cintiq 16" I've dealt with the past 11 months :(

    • @aaronrutten
      @aaronrutten  5 лет назад

      What's odd is that I only hear about people who receive multiple faulty units in a row, as if they are somehow cursed. I don't hear about one tablet having a dead pixel and the next being OK. Maybe that's because the issue was resolved. I've never had dust or dead pixels and I've used almost a dozen different Cintiqs. Must just be bad luck.

      @@aaronrutten Yeah two 16's came in yesterday, both with dust issues. Sucks as I've been without a Cintiq since March. That makes about 16 I've gone through. Almost willing to compromise at this point.

    The cable design is better on the 22. Having proprietary cables is the most Ahole thing a company can do to you. I want optical hdmi cabling, no problem. The 3-in-1 is a PoS.

    I'm in the market for a drawing display tablet and I lot of things about the cintiq 22 excite me.... Then you revealed the price 😐 I know wacom is the gold standard for drawing tablets but 1200$ USD for an entry level product with only 1080p resolution is pretty steep.
    I feel like the beginner artists who can afford that will just pay the extra 300 for the cintiq 16 pro. I guess I'll have to decide if the extra room is worth an additional 400$ (comparing the 16 + the price of the stand separately against the 22)

    • @Stoppskylten
      @Stoppskylten 5 лет назад

      You just have to decide how you work, and with what programs. If not using, or having them at screan allth time anyway, much menues and drawing in big sweaping motions preferably at 1:1 scale, then this model is best. If wanting a great array of interfaces available and being more about drawing in precise smaller motions, the 16 pro is better.
