Hi again Sven , well yet another great posting by you and thanks for all your work and research thats making my choices much easier. im not a big fan of Bridgestone tires on wet roads and in the past i have had wider tires fitted than the recommended ones and that was the Bridgestone battleaxe. at this time everyone was doing it but one person told me that i was , by putting a wider tyre on the wheel rim i would distort the tyre profile out of shape enough to change how it performed. This may or not be true but maybe why i considered Bridgestone to be the problem and not my choice of tire width. Anyway Sven , keep up the good work and thanks again.
Thanks for the feedback In general I think the a wider profile will make the bike less agile. I know that many loves a fat rear tyre for the look and that has been trend. But it isn't necessary the best choice for quick corner carving :-) For my Versys 650 I used a lot of Bridgestone Battlax BT023 tyres with standard size for the bike. I loved them for their feel and grip but longevity was questionable. Considered them fot my cast wheels but ended up with the Pirelli Angel GT :-)
Hi Sven Awesome Vid and I found exactly what I am looking for, about the width of rear tires ! I v got a 2015 Honda cb500xa (120/70-17 and 160/60-17 )fitted with fantastic Pirelli scorpion trail2 for commuting tire
Hi Sven Awesome Vid and I found exactly what I am looking for, about the width of rear tires ! I v got a 2015 Honda cb500xa (120/70-17 and 160/60-17 )fitted with fantastic Pirelli scorpion trail2 for commuting . I want to try the Pirelli scorpion rally STR (80/20 versus 90/10 I believe )but as you said the 160/60 are harder to find and the rally STR are in 150/60 or 170/60.It does make sense to have narrower tires in water or mud but where I live (Groote Eylandt, an island in the NT, Australia) although it can be very wet in rainy season it is very dry as well . Wouldn't it be better to have a large tire in the sand? As well what would bet the Incidence of width on the road, 150 or 170 instead of 160 ?(10 mm diff in both case).Different handling , cornering, traction …? Hopefully you are still online and can answer my questions Cheers Have fun
I am not sure if a wider (170) tyre would be better in deep dry sand compared to a 150 tyre. It may not sink that deep into the sand but float a bit more which may (or not) be and advantage. I think overall it would be better with a narrower tyre. A 170 tyre may be too wide, you should check that it dont touch the chain guard. Maybe some other here could answer that. I think a narrower tyre will make the bike more agile cornering on the asphalt. Easier turn in. But you may get better grip with a wider tyre leaning over.
Yes Im aware of those...I would love to try them....maybe my next....looking into GPS, Rallz or Adventure. I may get them from Adventure Spec in UK :-) The price for the GPS in size 110/80-19 and 150/70-17 would be 25% higher than my current tires though. And I would have to choose a bit wider profile. Cant find them in 100/90-19 and 140/80-17. Maybe they are worth its price :-)
@@tubelesschannel yes 150/70,of course they are more expensive but so strong, up to 30000 km and they behave as well on wet pavment or off road. Kyle Bradshaw told they are still better than the Heidenau K60 Scout. For my CB 500X 2018 even if one day I put a GPS Motoz on the rear I will have to put a cheap 17" Shinko E 705 in the front.
I'm picking up my 2019 CB500X next week and I've found many useful ideas on this channel. Thank you.
Congrats with your bike. Love to hear my videos is useful 🙂
I found exactly the information I was looking for. excellent job! it's always a pleasure watching your videos
Love to hear that !

Hi! Thanks a lot :-)
Thanks for sharing your research Sven, I was just looking for very similar information. Keep up the great work here and ride safe.
Thanks, ride safe :-)
I have good experience with Mitas myself. The TKC80 had impressive tarmac traction on my KTM 690 Enduro R.
Great tires !
A good and informative review Sven, how are the pirelli tyres for grip in the wet ???

Have you considered buying the excellent MotoZ Tractionator GPS which is the most longlife tyre?

Morning :-) Yes you can, Ive done that myself
@@tubelesschannel thank you. So the motorcycle will not have a problem with the change of dimension of the rear tire
@@kostaspapanikos6211 no not at all :-) I have used TCK80s and Pirelli Angel GTs with that dimension on my OEM cast 17 inch rear wheels.
Has anyone figured out if a 170/60 17 will fit yet?
Not as I know sorry !
