Well, I got a bottom and side-ribs made, but ran out of branches for weaving the sides and I had to take down the whole Willow to get that far. I guess I'll pick up the work next summer, after the Willow coppices. Then I should have lots of long, thin branches. It's mid-summer and even the green branches are cracking when I bend them. John makes it all look so effortless. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed this new craft and might try again with more pliant material. Rubber trees??? :D

Absolutely gorgeous, I love the basket! And I even have a neighbor next door who has a willow tree that they trim sometimes and I can get willow from to try and make my own basket out of. Also, Happy Valentine's Day!

Free willow next door? WIN! You should definitely try to make some willow crafts.

Do you have to soak the willow? Or can you do it when its fresh?

    It's very therapeutic.
I tried it today, looks nothing like a basket, more like a birds nest. I just can't get the branches to go & stay where I want them to. Anyway it was fun.

Should the willow be freshly cut?

I'm so behind in putting them up! Apologies for that but they're coming probably in September.

Great! Just wondering if this is “green” or dried willow?
