    Great vid! I'm having the same issue with the bridge as you described!!

    This bass was my first 5 string I ever played or purchased after specifically being asked at a church by a worship leader if I could go any lower on my 4 string G&L L2000.
    It’s a great bass and I gigged with it in a variety of settings for years until I discovered and moved on to other basses.
    Definitely recommend!

    Really nice review as always! I have an SRSC806 that has nearly the same controls and I'm very happy with it. I can go from playing metal on it to dialing in a thumpy P-bass sort of tone by turning it to passive mode, neck pickup, and treble knob at 0%. On mine (and the SR505E), the treble knob acts as a tone control while passive mode is on. I also just realized my SRF705 has the exact same bridge as your 505, but I luckily haven't run into any issues yet 😬🤞

    Very fond memories of this bass. My first 5 string and I got it in 2012. I had the bridge issue and guitar center took it back for a full refund. I miss the feeling of the neck. Agreed about the pickups but you have a ton of aftermarket options.

    I'd loveee to se your review and opinion on the ibanez sr655e its similar to this one but in PJ config and some electronics upgrades, haven't seen many videos about that model and your opinion is always so on point, you take the time to analyze every aspect of the instrument, which I love.

    Great - and fun - review, as usual, thx ! :) I do agree with a lot of things you've said here. I own and play the new SR505EL, mainly because it's one of the rare and, imho, good, 5 strings bass available for left handed player like me ! And very versatile indeed !
    Idk and can't tell for the BH2 vs MK1, because I never tried the first version... But one thing I can tell is that on the new version, Ibanez added a passive/active switch, hopefully, because I found my battery running off very quickly on this instrument, and having played it a lot in passive mode, I can also tell it's surprisingly pretty good !
    Just one warning concerning the specs : it seems that the finish of the body is mahogany, but the body itself is in okoumé, an african tree. But the sound doesn't feel worse because of that, quite the contrary !
    Bises from Paris ! ;)

      @Gut75 I wanted my viewers to be aware of the bridge issue and body issue on these older ones. I would hope that Hoshino addressed these problems on the newer 505s.....that being said, it's a great bass!....and a blast to play!

    • @Gut75
      @Gut75 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Rib13Bass yeah I understand, it's two points that should be highlighted ! For the bridge, so far so good here (black mate appearance now btw, as for the - too many - knobs 😅). For the body, I'm not slapping it a lot, and I almost don't have nails haha, so I can't tell, but I've heard some people had these issues too... Even by letting the palm of the fretting hand on the body. So yes I think, as you are saying it in the video, if you're attached to the appearance, it really could be a concern... ! People should indeed be aware of that. But yes, apart from that, it's a blast to play, the fretboard is a 5 lane highway ! 😎🤘

    I got the 6 string version used online. Has the same exact scratch . The neck was all crooked until a year later I learned how to straighten it. Because of that bridge the action can't be lowered very low

    Not gonna lie, when it comes to Ibanez I much prefer the BTBs over the SRs, but overall just find it super difficult to buy a bass with a battery and if I do it's probably going to read "Yamaha" on the headstock. Would be cool to do a BTB vs SR vid though. Similarly priced and all.

    The only real change in the new 500s is an active/passive switch has been added. but I would guess that it is around 2010 or so. Not bad at all.

  • @sinakaedwards2009

    Looking forward to the SR series. Do they have the thinnest necks? Seems like Ibanez, ESP, and Schecter are the three makers of thin necks.

    • @Rib13Bass
      @Rib13Bass  7 месяцев назад

      my Ibanez basses are thinner than my Schecters but im not sure if thats universal

    • @sinakaedwards2009
      @sinakaedwards2009 7 месяцев назад

      @@Rib13Bass To me Schecter seems to be like a cross between Fender, Ibanez, and BC Rich. Fender for their strat and tele like guitars with Ibanez-like necks and BC Rich shapes. The bass side is a little more like ESP meets Fender, with Ibanez-like necks. I think Ibanez has the thinnest necks, by measurement Schecters is only 2mm thicker at the first and 12th frets. Ibanez seems to have a feeling like a sword handle and a Gibson and Fender have more of a bat type handle. The main thing I am looking for in my bass purchase is active pickups, stainless steel frets, ebony board, fret markers, very stable neck, and narrow nut width. The Schecter SLS evil twin checks all the boxes and is neck through. Ibanez has some interesting options. The main drawback to the Schecter is the ability to run passive and a complaint I have seen about the fishmans on the SLS is the battery drains fast. If I choose and Ibanez some models have a passive/active switch but not stainless-steel frets. The headless basses have stainless frets, but Ibanez runs medium and Schecter runs Extra Jumbo. I think the Nordstand pickups are a better alternative to the Bartolonis. Ibanez agrees and shows so with the price.

    • @Rib13Bass
      @Rib13Bass  7 месяцев назад

      @sinakaedwards2009 I have a SR2605 .... I'm not sure about the frets but the rest seems to tick your boxes....I got it mainly because of this 505: I liked the 505 enough that I thought an upgrade would probably be really to my liking. I was right lol and it's my current gigging #1 5ver with my converted BTB845v as #2/stage backup...it has Nord Big Singles and I absolutely love those pickups

    • @sinakaedwards2009
      @sinakaedwards2009 7 месяцев назад

      @@Rib13Bass Have you tried any of the multiscale or fanfret basses? If so, how do they seem to be? I'm going for a Metal, punk, country, funk type of sound. I might get a Music Mann Stingray if I can afford it because they check all the boxes except a wide nut width not 38mm. But, they do have 18 v system. So there is that. The perfect bass tone in my opinion is the one used on Steve Vai's Bad Horsie. It has a digging sound to it. That is the tone I hope to get close to.

    So would you rate this as a high-level entry model or the low end of the intermediate? If the bridge starts to go bad again Hipshot will probably make something that can replace it for life and work really well. I have used two of their bridges and I beat instruments to death.

    • @Rib13Bass
      @Rib13Bass  7 месяцев назад

      @sinakaedwards2009 I think high level entry is more accurate.....I would put it as the bottom rung of intermediate.....just opinion , of course
