  • We are just back from our biggest trip yet in our VW Grand California that we call Wanda - ten days in the South West corner of Wales, with a stopover on the way there and on the way back. First time for us in Pembrokeshire and I don’t know if we could have liked it any more - we ended up on probably the best camping pitch that we’ve ever had with incredible views over Caerfai Bay.
Back to the start of the trip - our first stop was at a site in Hay-on Wye called Racquety Farm. We liked the site. It’s very eco, very natural. The pitches are separated with wild grass borders. Very dark sky (no light pollution). Lot’s of camp fires etc. No Electric Hook Up. By contrast, the toilets and showers are ultra modern and spotless. You can walk to Hay-on-Wye from the site. We did two nights off grid with no probs. They do have water and toilet emptying.
Our Pembrokeshire destination was Caerfai Bay. We were looking for one of those epic cliff top camping spots and that’s definitely Caerfai Bay. The site was fantastic. We did two nights on EHU but then moved to an even more amazing spot without EHU for four nights. We had amazing weather and the solar worked brilliantly. Caerfai has it’s own beach. It’s on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Walk. You can easily walk to St Davids from the site. The views were incredible. It was soooo quiet. Really loved Caerfai.
Our last stop was Bath for two nights. We didn’t need EHU for just two nights but we wanted to be in Bath and the pitch came with EHU and was tree lined so maybe we would have lost some solar. The tree lined was great in this weather ☀️. I did read some poor reviews of this site. I’d absolutely use it again. I don’t know why it has any bad reviews, it’s not a pretty campsite but it’s easy to get to, it’s Bath City and walkable to the centre directly onto the tow path on the river.
