- Alan shows you how he rolls a wall with no lines. Do not press on roller. Also PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MY SQUEAKY ROLLER. It's a brand new roller I used once and it's squeaks already. Sorry
I was about to give up but will give this one last try. Love how simple and direct you are...not having to waste 30 minutes listening to someone waste my time. Get to the point, exactly what you epitomized.
One of the simplest but yet one of the best videos on RUclips. Thx 👍
That roller is due for new brake pads friend.
dojo 🤣
Lol too funny
😆
😂😂😂
You have no lie to tell.
Wow!! That's bast radio rolling wall in the RUclips !! I saw it again and again !! Then I am painting wall now !! Thanks !!
Hey, thank you for this straightforward video. My issue may have been putting too much pressure. Live and learn, I guess lol.
Yep
That’s how it’s done all except for the homeowner type roller pan
I always use a five gallon bucket that’s how journeyman painters taught me to do it
One of very few bs free & practical painting tip video, thank you my friend.
This is how you do it. Nice and easy. Thank you so much!!
Great vid.....thanks for posting
When I paint with Satin I get some dry particles of paint on the wall so I have to remove them with my finger...etc. Do you have any tips to avoid this to happen? By the way I like the sheen of Satin but it is hard to paint with a roller without leaving any lines. It looks ok but it's not perfect. Flat paint is a lot easier to paint without lines.
Thank you so much! This really helped me out.
Very useful thank you.
You make it look easy
Thank you for the video, alwow77! I learned a lot about proper wall painting technique from you by watching this one video.
You make it look easy. I did exactly what you did today and put a lot of pain on it and still got roller marks, am I not using enough paint? Could it be I'm going over what I painted And my rollers to dry?
Rollers marks are either: Not laying off properly or dipping roller too far into the paint. For laying off, just use light strokes along the wet paint from top to bottom, overlaying each stroke by 50% to even the paint level. Too much paint is when it collects on the ends of the rollers from dipping too far. Use smaller, faster strokes only allowing the sleeve to hit the paint and keep the roller nice and wet.
Oh ok gotcha thanks for the advice man
But then once it drys and you and look horizontally along the wall you can see the lines, more so when the light is on it. :(
helpful tips, thanks!
Is this the same for metallic paint
Thank you :)
T-shirt inside out bud!
samart dude ... thanks bro
I came here AFTER I painted my living room, which now have lines :-( I think i was pressing too hard and not using enough paint
I've been using too much pressure and not enough paint.
Same lol.
Same here
@EL GRINGO LOCO ! I used a sealer and the lines were from my roller. Im finishing off the doors and final coat on the walls todayand then ill probably roll 1 more coat on the ceilings ..just with less pressure and mpre paint. Brand new house and massive ceilings
I had that problem for a long time before I discovered paint.
Me too. It's so frustrating but people want 4k to paint
Well just finished painting the room and thank you for the first time in my life I have ever painted room without lines. Do you have a paypal account I would like to send you a six pack. God Bless and thanks again ...
That's awesome. I'm glad I was able to help. I appreciate the offer but I couldn't. Have a good night Peter 👍🏻
Time for a new video where my roller doesn't squeak
Agreed
I like it! It keeps me sharp 🙆
Paint the squeak out of it
And no dragging the paint tray across the floor :)
Haha. It's kinda funny
Thanks dude! My second coat will be much improved now! Going to work faster, use very light pressure, start in the middle of the wall, and have enough paint on my roller so I don't have to press.
2nd coats always go smoother, and always alot faster!!
This is my third coat attempt because I keep leaving roller marks :(
In 5 min I realized I was doing everything wrong. 😭😭😭😭
Thanks for the simple, straightforward explanation. Cheers mate
Man, this is why I run out of paint so fast, I keep pressing the shit out of my roller. Wish I'd seen this video sooner. Thnx
Rico Valdes lol me too
and this is why I finished painting with extra paint left ... and poor painting :D
First - I NEVER comment on youtube videos, but your video helped me out sooo much! After watching several other videos and attempting the "W" method they all seem to tout, my walls were continuously jacked up. I just couldn't get it. I was about to give up and shell money out for a professional but decided to give it one more attempt. I came across your video and gave it a go. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sooo helpful and my walls actually look great now! (Had to repaint all of my previous, splotchy attempts).
Agreed! I used the "Capital N" method yesterday and now have to add another coat because of ALL the streaks. I also used too much area for one roll of paint. This time I'll be using this method. Thank you so much!
S
Did you remove old paint or just painted over the old patchy paint ? Wonder if I can do too
I just painted over the old paint. This method was superb! (I'm making sure to reply to comments so I can remember this video if ever I have to paint again. 😊 So excellent!)
In case you didn't notice I put up another paint video but without the squeaky roller
I never thought about starting in the middle. This was a good informative video. Thank for sharing.
Tried your technique, definitely worked!
He is so awesome. I needed this video badly. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for the tips. I’ve been trying to paint a dark gray colour on my wall and the lines are bugging me. So my mistake was putting to much force. Thank you
What about the top and bottom edges? How do you fill those in?
Who are the 226 Bozo's who thumbed down this video?!. This guy is an expert. I've been painting for 15 yrs and Alan here just taught me something. Thanks!
Does it work with white paint??
Good video man, a lot of these u tube paint videos are more showing off than really being helpful. If people want to do a W that's up to them it's just another gimmicky method that may confuse people, IMO.
thanks for this video my dude , it seems like it should be common sense but to be honest i found rolling to be ver hard until learning the technique from this video . Never again will I paint like shit lol
Awesome I'm glad I could help. 👍
Do you water your paint down? I was painting today and if I put a lot of paint on the wall and try to spread it out it starts having this thick wavy bumpy texture that I can't lay out. I had too much paint in an area especially above light switches and stuff and when I tried to take the paint back off, it creates this terrible Textture every time I roll the roller over it. I never put any pressure because it creates lines. So my question is, how do you get rid of the stop marks at the bottom and tops? It looks like you put a lot of pain on for those first two roller with so there's definitely a thick amount at the bottom that will be able to be seen
I'm in the middle of painting my rental bathroom for the first time. I've watched 5 videos on how to paint for beginners and all the methods effed up my wall 😥 just when I thought about giving up I come across this video, tried it and it's working!! I'm super pumped now!!
Painting bathrooms is my passion and when I broke up w/ you in our past lives I actually am genuinely sorry and would love to take you out to dinner just to see that smile again. Give me a jingle at your convenience girl
@@anthonysullivan7871 too late, she already went out with me! 🤣
I'm painting my studio apartment. My dad passed away last year... he never really taught me anything about painting... After two nights of painting I was wondering what I was doing wrong.. I came to this video and totally figured out what I was doing wrong... Kinda feels like I should send you a Father's Day card
Thanks for posting I am all stressed out about painting a room I am not a good painter I always leave lines I hope I do this room perfect it for my girlfriend daughter's room. Thanks for the advice great video ...
Amazing. You make it look so easy. Great work and thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Well I definitely confused. Some people say back rolling/laying off is good (which you don’t seem to be doing here) - but it just sound like dry rolling to me??
good tip on starting the roller from the middle. thanks!
liyev I
You don't cut in first?
i have painted alot of walls in ceilings and this tip for walls is the best tip ever makes an enormous difference to me whatever the color paint thank you very much
Wish Id watched this before I painted my room with stripes! Thanks explained quickly and no nonsense!
Nearly 10 years later and your video is helping me get a cleaner look in my living room paint job!
Thank you for this video. One of the best I've watched on this.
Best video.. You helped me do a perfect paint job at home. Thanks
Awesome. I love hearing that I helped others. 👍
It must be the squeaky roller that's gives best results ayb😊
Nope, my roller squeaks and I still had lines.
i can tell he has a lot of time with a roller in his hand, notice how he goes from top to bottom.thats how you roll, not they way with the big W pattern that people who have no idea on what they are doing show you. he def knows how to roll a wall,,for people new to painting, lets say you are painting a 12X12 room, to cut in and roll it, 2 hours would be the time do do it, then 1 hour for the last coat,
kestutis markauskas you dont know how to paint do you, you do not press hard when rolling, and anyone that says do the W pattern has no idea to paint...you do not use the so called W pattern ,that came from people who have no idea to paint
wolf360090 thank you for the great comment.
kestutis markauskas where's your video. Go make a video and paint W W W all over the wall look at the beautiful coat of paint on the wall. No need for negative comments.
kestutis markauskas u have no idea on how to paint
trying to find out why people do the W or N and roll out from there? What is the purpose?
where's the part where you packed and ripped your bong, smashed some funyuns/chocolate milk, then got to work at 10:37 AM?
David Bell now that’s a painters life!
Nope. I have no idea who in the universe I pissed off, but I tried painting a (supposedly) simple and easy bedroom wall and ALWAYS get lines. Especially if I go back over the last few inches that I just painted. Tried 3/8" nap, 1/2" nap, brand new (not the least expensive) rollers, nothing. Must have 5 coats on it already. It is a lighter satin color so really picks this up when light is shining on it. I give up...
would this work when done as a second coat where I painted like an ametuer over brand new walls and there is uneven sheen/patterns? or do I need to sand or prep anything before painting?
Thank you so very much for sharing your years of experience to help us zero years of experience wannabe painters paint a room perfectly like you do!!
What I am confused about though is in two videos I see two highlighted areas near the ceiling approximately 6-8' apart, is this a lighting anomaly or???
Thank you my friend!!
good rolling techniques,,i have been a painter for 27 years..good job
Thanks I appreciate it.
Hey my dealer is out of town , and I need to paint my house asap..can I have your connects number? Lol
Many thanks , I always started at (near) the top , and used a little pressure as the roller became less laden !! ... never again ... awesome stuff and thanks :)
Put some KY on that baby. And some subtitles. I can't hear what's being said.
How to get rid of the squeaking? My roller has been doing this and it's driving me bonkers 😅
Very helpful tips! I wished I watched this video before I started painting my wall for the very first time!
I hate when my roller squeaks like that. Especially in an empty room. A little WD40 fixes that right up.
Nobody shows how to do cut ins, they don't roll it all the way down and don't explain why or how to fill in the remaining areas/.
I usually use a paint brush for the first coat then use the roller all the way down for the second. I use the brush before painting the entire wall
The back and forth Ms and Ws, advancing by a bit and finishing back in on itself really worked well for me. Gave me a great wall with no lines. Good vid. Cheers.
Great vid. Do have one doing a ceiling?
Good job man... you need some lubrication on your roll frame 😂
Damn..u make it look so easy...thanks for the video...i had lines..🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Simply amazing, it was my first time painting and the walls turned out to be great
Thanks for posting this video-it's the best one I've seen so far. Now I know where I made my mistakes-thanks for the tips.
There won't be any lines...cos it's the same fucking colour....😂😂😂😂😂
Watching you do this is giving me so much confidence. I'll be painting my garage walls tomorrow. Love how you move the roller up and down like it's second nature to you. Thank you sir!!!!
You didn't include the upper part of the wall, where it joins with the ceiling, how do i paint there? With a painting brush?
Thanks
Yes buy a Wooster or Corona brush. Rembrandts and Picasso's are nice too those are mid grade brushes found at Benjamin Moore or ebay
Bit late probably lol but tape the ceiling lines and then use either brush the other commenter mentioned
Nice video thanks for the tips. Another video I watched gave good tips which ended up making my walls look perfect. Overlap by at least 25% on each line, and every 4 lines come back and lay each line off coming down and overlapping by 50%. I didn’t have a stripe since.
My roller was squeaking all day today! It about killed my partner
Terrific!Quick and easy and well explained. Thanks.
Oh there will be lines...from the cut ins you will have to do with a brush which should have been done before rolling the wall
true cutting is always first then rolling
How do you roll using a w or v shape like some painters do?🤔❓
Wish i found this one undercoat and second coat (on one wall) sooner 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️!!! Finished 2 walls in 20mins. So much prettier 🙌 😅 This should be the only paint video out - Simple, yet the most effect...squeaks and all 👌
Thanks for the tip bro! I'm doing a painting course ATM and this really helps
Thank you! I was following another video and couldn’t get the result I wanted. This way worked much better!
Mist coated dried skimmed walls in my hallway then roller painted with a quality trade paint but now its dried, i can see shadows or ghosting lines on the walls.
Natural light comes through the glass in the front door.
I have then painted horizontally in case of dips in the wall but its still the same.
What have i done wrong and can this be fixed.
With doing primer to drywall
It sometimes leaves lines but I think it’s ok since since it’s primer
Not with finish coat- I’m more aware but it’s also easier to roll on
Thanks for posting/sharing, not telling you what to do but, go out to your vehicle, pop the hood, pull th dip stick out and put oil on that roller axle, thanks nice video and good tip
Can pressing too hard make the paint darker? I'm painting my room 'Plink', which is a light purple/pink colour, but on the wall, it's like a med-dark Pink colour.
Excellent video! Very helpful.
Check out this video on RUclips:
Maybe thats why I use so much paint. I'm pressing too hard with not enough paint. I have to do like 3 coats 🤣 and btw ur shirts inside out and may want to put some wd40 on that roller 🤷
finally a useful video in the internet. thanks!
Damn I hope that's some premium paint unless you're going for polka-dotted baseboards and ceiling.
Hay Brow I'm trying figure out How to do this knock down I seen in Arizona. Looks like Aligator a little. I have A video on my ch.
This is the best video ever. Loved how you just showed us what to do and didn’t talk for a half hour first. Just wish the roller wasn’t squeaky. 😊
If you do the trim after you paint the walls, will the trim show up more since you painted the walls first?
Awesome video, alwow77. Thanks so much. I enjoyed your video.
I get a difference above the radiator where i cant roll down. Light source from the side shows it very good.. any tips?
Quick, fast and too the point, again, thanks.
That’s how u know you’re paint roll or has put some miles on it! That squeak .. great vid bro thanks I’m a painter and I do remodels also .. some people think they an paint till they see the sheen on it all messed up or all the lines .. this is a great vid bro .. good luck and thanks !
Chirps just like my smoke detector when it needs new batteries. Great vid with great tips. Thank you for sharing.
@alwow77 after you roll, how do you blend the last unrolled outside strips along the ceiling, wall corners and baseboard?
Excellent.... now I know. So many opinions out there... this makes more sense....Thank you for taking the time
