Ive been painting for about 10 years now and i bought an 18 inch roller yesterday and i used it today and i swear i used it for the first time and as soon as i used it i got so pissed for not buying one earlier
WHAT A LIFE CHANGER ITS JUST SO FLIPPING AMAZING it get heavy a little bit when you start using it on ceilings but i just fell in love all over again😍😍😍 i hope my wife wont read this😂😂
John Cena loves his part time job as a painter .
😂 He does look like John Cena, maybe he should use an alias John Ceiling for marketing.
I can’t see him there
LOL
I was thinking the same
😂😀
Honest to goodness at 56 I’m a single mom trying to paint my daughters bedroom..Oh I’ve painted before but I really wanted to do a good job but since I’m not planning on painting much else (maybe) I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on her 10x12 room. One crack in the ceiling and here I am looking at so much more about painting than I ever considered. Again, I WANT to do this the right way the first time. I want HER to know she can do these things on her own..WELL! I really appreciate the education you provide on your channel! I realize there are probably thousands of choices on RUclips but you were very CLEAR in your explanations, entertaining AND had a bible verse from Jeremiah. That’s gonna win me ANY day!! Thank you!! Wish me luck!
I'm about to paint my bedroom ceiling and boyyyy would I love to have those guys to do it for me 🤣
at Idaho labor costs too! id have enough left for a vacation!
OMG tell me about it!😩

I think you have a thing for indoor painting John Cena
This great channel I'm so impressed with the traffic on it ! I been painting all my life. I'm 40 and I just started my business last year. I found out the last ten years power washing is my passion . I have a hot water trailer set up , all low pressure soft wash on houses. Super easy . so I have my painters come behind me and paint after I clean . moral to this story is watching that guy roll that ceiling brings back awful memories and I'm so glaad I don't have to adjust a roll poll any longer lmao . thank you ! Great channel !
This is hands down the best painting video I've seen. To the point, well edited, and no fluff. Thank you.
I was procrastinating for months to paint my bathroom ceiling. It turned out great! It looks well done, thanks Idaho Painter
I painted my first room today with my 10 year old. We really enjoyed your videos while we were doing it! thanks for all the tips!
Why did you paint your 10 yr old?
Nice. Like your confidence and energy. Paint job looks good as well!
Great job guys and I can't wait to use the new roller to cut in with. At age 67 I still like to roll my work out with an 18 in roller when I can. Get the ceiling done and take a longer break with the time I saved. Lol As a handyman I get to do a lot of different jobs and painting about 12 townhouse's a year. Keep up the quality work. Tks for the tips. Jack the Handyman
I remember you being the first decorating video I ever watched. You’re all still amazing. Thank you for the generous advice and skills these many. Your hard work is very much appreciated. Especially by my customers. And makes my work and ‘me’, haha, look mighty good. Thank you
Thank you very much! I am new to painting, and you have been an invaluable resource. Always presented calmly and respectfully. I wish you continued success!
Thank you for watching & supporting!
I've always painted the same direction I started in, but never paid attentionto lighting. Very good tip.
Good thing to look out for!
This tutorial could not have been more timely. I'm in the midst of redoing my kitchen on my own. My project this morning is the ceiling. I remove the popcorn and I'm going to begin with primer. My concern was which way to roll. You answered that question perfectly. Thanks so much for all you do
Your number one concern is to test first if the popcorn ceiling contain ASBESTOS
I really enjoyed several of your videos and ordered the corner rollers. Didn’t think I could learn anything new after painting all our homes we’ve lived in (60 y/o) by myself. Hubby does other stuff... Thanks for sharing your knowledge, best of luck.
I am going to use a roll cart for gardening to help me with my knees while putting the tape on the floor. It goes in the same direction as the wall and it will save my hips and knees. Thanks for all of your tips!
My God man......lol.....as a first time home owner just these little tips have made the never ending battle of house "honey do lists" bearable. Great instruction (for me at least) BOOM!!!!
Glad to help, thanks for watching Michael!

As a DIYer who does everything on my own, these tips are soooo helpful. Thank you!

Super helpful! Looking forward to a beautiful ceiling in our newly constructed home. Thanks for the tips!
Except don't leave the gobs of paint running down your wall like he did. It will dry and require scraping, patching, sanding, vacuuming, priming and 2 coats finish to fix it. .. He didn't mention that part.....
Hi from England, this is a brilliant video. It's concise but has all the detail. Thanks for uploading.
My man Chris hands down got THE best painting videos on the Tube! Killin it!
Thank you!!
Ok, so I've been a painter for some time and I always cut in the walls to ceiling first. 2nd I'll cut around all light vents and ceiling fans. 3rd I'll feather with a 9" roller appx. 9" from each ceiling fixture. Finishing up with the right direction to trick the eye to follow the light flow of the room. 4th using a 9" with a 1/2" nap load with flat latex is a challenge in it self. Never let the roller become to dry and keep moving with a feathered overlap. Rolling is always fast but adding the weight of a 18" roller with hardware and the pole becomes a bit challenging for a beginner looking to be a speed paint, because to this day with the strength I have and the skill I have my suggestion to beginners is to always paint with patients
I've been a painter for nearly 45 years. And yours is sound advice. I also no matter if its ceilings or trim. when you roll use the V and back fill method. Load your roller up. make a big V with long strokes. Then back fill it to spread the paint around. to fill in the V feathering the edge then moving on always working from your last roller move out. backroll in then out again to fill, rinse repeat. You can use heavier nap rollers and still achieve smooth as silk results if you just roll it out
Great job explaining love the new rollers with the full wrap around I’ll be buying plenty of those👌🏼
Thanks for watching!
Ive been painting 35 yrs you have excellent tips thank you I am a fan of your youtube channel
Firstly, let me say, I really appreciate the great trade advice you guys give out, so, it's a thumbs-up from me on that score. However, and I appreciate you may well accuse me of being pedantic on this score, but to me, if you're looking South through a window and there is light coming in through a window on your right hand side, then that direction is West and not, as stated (4.12), East.
Great tips, helps if your 6'2"
Yes esp if you are 5 feet 4 inch like me.
Hello guys enjoyed your video. Was a P&D for just over forty years gave it up because it is hard work, fumes and dust. But watching your video of you and your mates working together made me miss it a bit. Love the white t-shirt with paint life on. Keep up the good work. Kevin.London.uk
Fantastic video! So helpful...thanks for sharing your knowledge!
love jamming the roller against the walls...creates that wonderful ridge and sags. condo painter hacks......
Amateur hour here.
Also. Cut in on corners/edges either on walls or ceilings - then you can use your roller to roll out the rest. It saves time and you're not having to deal with awkward, roller-not-fitting-and-gettin'-them-corner situations. 👌🏼
Nice
Exactly what I did great advice
Thanks for the pointers, You guys rock!
God bless youz!
I love your videos I'm actually trying to start a small painting company myself this year so I've subscribed an watch your channel alot....you guys actually need to be on TV thanks From Memphis TN 💪

Good tips thanks
Lol I thought I was the only one who caught that
love it when people are passionate about their profession!
I never knew or Even saw that edge roller thing love ❤️ it
its not an edger, its a 4in roller, pushed in the corners while rolling
Love all the tips. So helpful. Should the kid at the end of the video have his paint closer so that He doesn't have to go room to room?
Super easy to roll those ceilings when there is no or very little texture!
You guys rock. Keep up the good videos. I’m a professional paint contractor in Vancouver BC. Canada 🇨🇦 thanks so much. Learned a lot. Need some of your tools !!!’
Thanks for the info, I'm not a painter and therefore I am watching this video. I appreciate the help!!
The ceiling roller used to cut in is a bit large and could show lap marks even with flat paint. Careful there! Gotta keep the wet edge. I use a mini size roller (3/8 nap) similarly but it only cuts out about 5 inches instead of nine. The thing I noticed here was that the drips coming down on your walls with the ceiling paint need to be brushed out while wet or they become a problem for the top of your walls if the drips dry up. The second room that was finished already that you showed as an example - had drips and gobs of paint coming down onto your walls that had to be setting up and drying. I brush that out immediately and never have an issue..The mini rollers are a better solution for cutting in this way in my humble opinion. Great vid ...thanks..
Thanks for the feedback!
Paint Life TV Hi guys do you no some company in Chicago who looking for painters?
4 inch whizz rollers are a cutting godsend.
This crew is amazing man,John is a beast on ceilings...
Yes he is! Thanks for watching Keno!
The pleasure is all mine my brother...keep doing what you are doing 100%
Thanks for the info, I did not even think about painting towards the outside light source! Plan craping my popcorn ceiling then painting it tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing your talent with us God bless.
Small suggestion and one of my pet peeves; don't let your guys put the wet 18" roller wet side on the walls... you will have to sand that down so it doesn't telegraph thru your wall finish at the end. AND when smashing the ceiling paint into corners is a great idea you have to brush out your drips running down the walls, it takes five seconds to lay it off. (You can see dripping from the roller slamming into corners. Good luck and I like the videos
Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching!
Thank you, I will be wearing my swimming goggle when I paint the ceiling.
LOL
Great video. Simple easy to understand tips. Good job.
Great video. You have really helped me with my rentals. Thank you.

If you do 2 coats do you both coats the opposite direction of the light coming in?
When using the roller sleeve with the covered end on it to cut in the ceiling, it doesn't leave a thick paint ridge on the wall?

Why don't you do your cut-ins around lights while your rolling--keeping out ahead a few feet--so that everything dries together as one?
Just what has worked for us!
They're ok at painting. But they're not A+ painters for sure. I'd give em a B or B-
Lu Cho
What is a paiter???..
It's flat paint it's going to dry the same
It doesn't matter with flat ceiling paint for the most part. If you use Behr paint like you do then it could be a problem...LOL Anyway he is the guy getting paid while you all sit here and criticize.
Question: How do you get rid of the paint runs on your wall from that new roller you used in the corners?
Great question -- and when it dries, you're going to have a paint line unless you go back and feather it out...
The idea is to use the corner roller in a way that you feather it as you use it. So full roller, roll one length, by which time you have a relatively empty roller and you glance over the edges to feather.
THANK YOU! Between advice from my dad and watching your videos, my ceiling came out wonderful. I watched about 15 of your videos and I will say that they were beyond helpful. I did know different types of paint brushes existed, but I never knew what they were used for and I always bought the cheapest supplies. WOW what a difference in purchasing the correct supplies made and thank you for showing me how to cut in. I have previously painted rooms before and did absolutely everything in the wrong order and wrong direction. No wonder it looked horrible. Loved how you demonstrated twisting the brush and roller to prevent drippage (it really works and I am not wearing 1/2 the can of paint like I usually do.). I am confident in how to cut in the wall without getting the wall paint on the ceiling. So walls are next so wish me luck!
GREAT INFO,WORKING SMART AND SAFE,THANKS FOR TIPS ON DIRECTION DEPENDING ON LIGHT
what is the name of the roller cover you us in the video that will paint the ceiling edges?
Following for answer
Chris you should really get a mic so the audio is better. Your videos are really good just sometimes it’s hard to hear with the echo in the rooms you’re working in
Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent, professional and well put together learning experience
Man, that 18" roller is gonna save SO much time. I'm glad I saw this and realized they make those. I also like the roller that helps to cut in as well. My wife loves painting. I don't. So anything to speed it up is good. 😅

What ceiling paint do you use . I just ordered some of the corner sleeves , looking forward to the time saving technique. Been painting about 16 years and always looking for a good tip
Hi there

Thanks for watching Holly!
If South is that way, surely the other way is west? Great guide though. Thanks.
also remember 2 coats always on interior painting....a lot of my customers are telling me they buy 1 coat paint....which is a lie by paint manufactures.....I try and tell them....that any painting jobs require 2 coats...ups the price of labor.....as for ceilings too....always 2 coats....1st one way....2nd the other way.....and also do cut ins around light fixtures first....wet on wet..
We do not always do 2 coats, only if needed...
I usually only do 2 coats if doing a light color over a darker color, and of course labor goes up, but if not necessary, I point out to customers the labor savings, just to make them happier. That one coat paint does work, but again, not like a white over a dark tan or brown...then it too also takes 2 coats.
Never? I've painted over a ceiling that had eggshell white and I had to use two coats of Benjamin Moore waterborn ceiling white two coats. Why is it that sometimes I see shows of the length of the roller despite going over that area twice? I do one coat. Let it dry two hours and go back. Even after that dries, I sometimes see a shadow.

You can always use a 6" mini roller that is what I have been doing for years before this kind of 9" nap came out.
Ryan Stokes are you using the 3/4 polyester model in the video?
Its just a pad running on the edges, you can use anything even your penis if you got one, if not then just use any rolling pad, i normally just use the tip of my penis that tends to work out well with beautiful result especially for the gloss work mirror finish.
Tjanks for the help guys!!!
Great advice! I appreciate that guidance about spraying then rolling over it (even though you didn't use this method). I also really like the direction in witch to spray to match the lighting. I recently painted my ceilings with flat ceiling paint with an airless sprayer and didn't go over with a roller -- it does not look professional, so I'll be rolling it again soon.
Thanks for the great videos and advice!
Thats great advice and a method for painting a ceiling on a big volume crew. I recommend rolling shortest length from wall to wall. The lighting idea did not make sense to me. Im a journey men painter and anytime we paint ceilings its the shortest length and keeping that ceiling extremely "wet"
Mr journey man painter that's first year apprenticeship knowledge..guess you where off that day..
I know of that way that way Jon explained. Chris and his crew are great. I can tell you from experience that shortest length from wall to wall always worked better for me especially in one coat application. The reason is the lap marks are easier to work with. God bless you!
Good luck, hope it turns out good! Thanks for watching!
See the problem with those 9" covers you have is they make a complete mess of the wall, I can see alot of runs on the wall.. I guess it makes sense if you brush the runs out before they dry
They have worked well for us!
Yes gotta brush out the tops of the walls so drips don't dry up. You can use a dry roller too. Also they only come in 1/2 nap and no 3/8 so if you use a 3/8 on a smooth ceiling how do you deal with the stipple texture differences? My guess is you have to roll your 18 inch 3/8 back into the 9inch 1/2 and then you will see a texture difference if in a well lit area..Probably awesome for plaster ceilings and the like?
@@Idahopainter Please come south Africa I'm learning a lot from you Thank you from South Africa
Could you please post the link to that 9" roller cover with the nap covering the edge? Thanks

Just dont use a pad which is like 4mm make sure its 9mm plus
I absolutely love my big purdy, i paint a lot of fresh plaster (uk), even with a good mist coat they’re the only rollers that are any good
