And notice too, you never hear any scandal about 'Scandal'. Just some kids in love playing some tasty rock and roll. She seems like a real sweetheart and her and the old man have been married for decades. God Bless em.
My understanding is that she did not like the industry, and did not want to conform to the practices it took to be a big star. Didn’t have to dress like a hooker, didn’t have to cuss, didn’t have to use auto tune, and didn’t have to dance like a stripper. Nope. Just talent. Real talent. Some would classify this video as cheesy or simple or totally 80’s. Yes, yes, and YESSSS and you know what? It’s STILL being played in the 21st Century!! Patty Smyth and Scandal were one of my favorite groups of the 1980’s!!!
This Scandal/Patty Smyth song was the only one I thought worth buying an mp3 version of, for my extensive iTunes library (over 1300 songs, several hundred of them from the 80s)... I passed on songs like The Warrior & Goodbye to You, though. In any case, fond memories of hearing Scandal songs (and many others, for that matter) on the radio around the time I graduated college (spring of '84) and moved hundreds of miles from home to start by career job. 😀
Dressing sexily doesn't take away from anyone's talent. Girls and women dress sexy all the time, it's not illegal or bad to express yourself even if it's in a sexual way. Mick Jagger does it, Bowie did it, etc. I do agree this is a great song though.
I guess what I meant was some of today’s “singers” that dress like, well, they barely dress. Patty was sexy (especially in her Red dress) and really didn’t even try. I still have my EP of this album bought when it came out!! (I’m old!)
During 1983 Jon Bon Jovi joined Scandal as a rhythm guitarist (briefly). He also appears during a demo recording of the music video for Scandal's 1983 single "Love's Got A Line On You" which reached #59 in the US
Have been a big fan since they started and I got the EP on vinyl. Then afterwards I got Patty's solo albums. She's got a signature voice of her own that you can't mistake. Prom dress from 82. I was in love with Patti. Just like all the other 12 year olds in Philly in 1982. She was SO cool. I thought she was the coolest girl I'd ever seen.
