Thanks for the work you put into your video. I've been using AP for about a year (as a hobby), and learned a few things. Good job! Musing out loud, I see this video has been up for 13 months now. 34K people have watched it. Only 1 in 34 who watched the video give it a thumbs up 9 (Adobe stockholders?) voted it down. I've seen this phenomenon often on RUclips - a great, informative video but few users bothering to thank the author with an up-vote. Please, folks, remember to thank people for taking the time to share what they've learned.
As you requested: I have a picture my daughter took of my twins grandsons starting 7th grade, holding a glass framed picture of their first grade picture. This past year, using her iPhone as camera source and facing wrong direction, her image taking picture reflected through the glass framed picture. I tried everything to remove her reflection. Suggestion or RUclips “How To” would be appreciated as many may have similar problem. Thank you.
This was so useful. I've been using Affinity for 18 months now and some of these tips were brand new to me. I've learnt so much in just half an hour. Thank you.

Hi. I'm a portrait artist and need help as to how to overlay photos for purpose of correcting the drawing of, and placement of facial features in a portrait painting. In this instance I'm working from a photo of my subject, and can't work out where I'm going wrong with my drawing using the traditional methods. I've been told that there is a way to upload the original reference photo, and then a photo of the painting which I can then adjust to make it the same size as the reference photo. Then I'm supposed to be able to make the photo of either the painting or the reference photo transparent and then overlay the two for comparison. I've never used more than the basic photo software that came with my Imac, and haven't a clue what to do. I've downloaded the free trial of Affinity, but before I commit to the full purchase I need to know how to to do the overlays. Can you please help me? thanks
Put each photo on a different layer. (One on top of the other). Then select the top layer and above the layers you will see opacity. Lower it so you can see both layers. Then chose the layer you want to match, grab a corner with the move tool and enlarge or shrink as needed. You can also add another empty layer on top and paint.
Richard - As a long time Photoshop user, I was disappointed that I couldn't find photo filters in Affinity. After looking at your video, it seems that your gradient overlay tip is the only way to achieve Photoshop's photo filters feature? - OR is there a simpler way!
The word is WOW! I wish I had found this place when you first started . Tons of good stuff I have not seen elsewhere..... Now I'm going to have to binge watch........... after I subscribe of course....
To toggle the ruler measurement you can also "right click" / "cmd click(?)" the upper right corner, where it shows the shorthand (px, mm, in ...) to bring up that same popup menu with the other measurements. You can also drag that corner to re-adjust the zero marker for both axis (enable the move tool first).
Some simple key features explained here. I've been chasing around for some of these things and here they are. One quick question: is it possible to change the white canvas to a transparent checkerboard background in AP? I have been trying to figure that one out but haven't found a solution. Just liked and subscribed.
@@DigitallyFearless. Thanks for the quick help, Richard. I found the top menu and transp. background is ticked. Yes, a transparent layer pops up, although the white canvas remains underneath. I guess it doesn't matter in the long run, although it would be nice to change to a darker checkerboard pattern. I take it that this is the norm for AP.
Hi I contacted Affinity Support and thought you might like to know the results for future reference. They suggested to disable the OpenCL under performance in Preferences but that didn't do anything. That did, however, set me in the right direction of changing the brightness, contrast and gamma settings in the Nvidia Computer Panel on my Windows system. The checkerboard emerged. I re enabled OpenCL and that didn't alter the checkerboard which I can now see. In the end it wasn't an Affinity issue but a graphics card one on my Nvidia RTX 3060 CPU. at 26.28 you dragged the image back to the guidelines however when I try it the small markers around the image do not move. Has something changed in the subsequent updates since this fantastic video was made? It's okay, I fixed it, I have no idea how but it works:)
It was not done with slicing. Perspective was used and as far as I can tell it still works the same. This was destructive, but now the new versions have live perspective.
Good video - Tip 17 (I think it was) once you have half of heart shape selected, just add layer mask and then only selected half of heart would show. No need to rasterise.
Carl. You are correct. I prefer using the mask, but some like to cut and paste using selections. If someone came from Photoshop, they would not know why cut and paste does not work in Affinity when it works in photoshop with no need to rasterize. That was the reason for the tip.
Thanks - I am learning so much from your videos. One slightly (off topic) question - that font! Was it crash black? I don;t have it and think it looks great. Is it available for windows? Thanks anyone who can help.
@@DigitallyFearless Thanks for getting back to me about the font. I really don't want to waste your time (I love that you are so generous with your videos), but I can't see this font either on google or da fonts. I will keep looking, but I just wanted to say thanks for trying to point me in the right direction. Glad also to see evidence that your health is good (or at least better than it was). Cheers from Australia. Garry
@@DigitallyFearless Thanks. I had found this, but sadly, not the same one. This one has, for example, the A "blacked in", while the font you used has the A smaller than other letters and at a different angle to the other letters (that is what draws me to it). Thanks heaps for trying, though! Garry
To move the color palette to the left, I can’t seem to find the icon that shows color to drag from the list of toolbar icons I got from view, customize tools. Which one is the color icon?
Absolutely great video! In Photoshop I used "Fit Image" to create an "Action" which I used to downsize a batch of images. With "Fit Image" as part of the downsizing it downsize automatically without changing the aspect ratio. How do you do this in Affinity Photo?
Hi, Not sure you can do it in Photo, but if you have Affinity Publisher and Photo then you can use studio link. In publisher click on the photo persona. That brings you to Affinity Photo. Do what you want in your document. Then hit the publisher persona button. Chose the photo frame on the right toolbar and make it the size you need. Then go to open, place and choose the photo and it is sized to your frame. Then go back to the photo persona and continue editing. It sounds like more than it is. It takes about a minute.
I just subscribed, thanks. I have a color photo that is old and is mainly different shades of yellow. The photo is important to me. Do you think, with the limited information I have given you that it could be corrected? Spencer
I deleted my last reply because it was wrong. To fix the color cast, create a full layer and hide it. Then use the color picker to find a yellow in the photo that should be white and make sure that the fill layer color. Then turn on fill layer and set blend mode to divide. That should fix it.
Hi. I am a newbie. I am familiar with photoshop elements but I have enjoyed the capabilities I am finding in AP. I was wondering if you could do a video on removing glare on glasses?
So I looked into removing glare. Unfortunately unless you have something to replace it with it can't be done. For example, if the glare is in eyeglasses and one eye does not have glare you can recreate the glared lense by using the non glared lense, but if there is nothing similar to copy, you can't remove the glare.
Excellent! I'm doing the PSexit and started learning Affinity Photo this weekend. I was on trial and noticed they were offering a $24.95 for whatever reason. Couldn't pass that up! Anyway, your "Photoshop did it like this and Affinity does it like this" was just the thing since I'm so familiar with PS. Great transitioning video!
these tips were awesome ;) I've ordered the book as I am loving owning this program and so want to get to be great at it. one thing I noticed is as a novice even in Photoshop, I found myself far more comfortable with the this program instead.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, too many comments to browse through but to copy half the heart 1st draw the heart, then a rectangle large enough to cover the half you don't want, select both shapes and then GEOMETRY - DIVIDE. You will then have 2 halves of the heart and a rectangle with half a heart cut out of it. You probably have a video of that tip by know but if you don't.
Yes, this was only my second video (about 2yrs ago) and I had just come from Photoshop. Since then I have done videos on that. Thanks for pointing it out so others may see your comment and learn from it.

I sometimes have to rewatch my own videos to remind myself how I did things. That video was done over a year ago, and I forgot some of the tips LoL. Thanks for watching.
Hey folks. If you want the POLYGON TOOL > You have to select FREEHAND SELECTION TOOL under that icon to have the polygon appear in the upper tool bar. .... that’s what I have to do anyway. 🤷🏼♂️

Carl. You are correct. I prefer using the mask, but some like to cut and paste using selections. If someone came from Photoshop, they would not know why cut and paste does not work in Affinity when it works in photoshop with no need to rasterize. That was the reason for the tip.
You can also change ruler units by opening a context (right-click) menu when your cursor is over the square area where the two rulers meet.
Great tip. Now that is my first choice when changing units.
Thanks - I am learning so much from your videos. One slightly (off topic) question - that font! Was it crash black? I don;t have it and think it looks great. Is it available for windows? Thanks anyone who can help.
I believe my computer had it, but dafont.com has it. Search Google for crash font and it will tell you where you can download it.
Garry
I think it's at www.dafont.com/crash-mh.font
@@DigitallyFearless Thanks. I had found this, but sadly, not the same one. This one has, for example, the A "blacked in", while the font you used has the A smaller than other letters and at a different angle to the other letters (that is what draws me to it). Thanks heaps for trying, though! Garry
To move the color palette to the left, I can’t seem to find the icon that shows color to drag from the list of toolbar icons I got from view, customize tools. Which one is the color icon?
There is no icon. The tip says to change to 2 columns and close and it appears automatically.
👍 Subscribed! Remarkable lesson! Thank you!
Thank you.
Very handy tips, I have just started to delve into Affinity myself and this video is excellent. Thanks for sharing. Started following :)
Fantastic tips, thank you!
Awesome tricks 👏😎👌
Thanks. It was one of my first videos done 2 years ago.

Thank you very much, I will try that.
Hi. I am a newbie. I am familiar with photoshop elements but I have enjoyed the capabilities I am finding in AP. I was wondering if you could do a video on removing glare on glasses?
Let me try to figure it out. If I do, I will create a tutorial.
Great transitioning video!
very helpful - thanks so much! :)
Thanks for watching. Please share.
Thx for all the tip!
Thanks for watching.
these tips were awesome ;)
I've ordered the book as I am loving owning this program and so want to get to be great at it.
one thing I noticed is as a novice even in Photoshop, I found myself far more comfortable with the this program instead.
Great. Thanks for watching.
@L0rdCROISSANT please let me know more about the book you mentioned (where to buy, name, author...), if possible! Thanks!
Really good Thanks!
Thank you.
Congratultions , excellent ! I really enjoyed it.
not know , but just know you've affected my life, and apparently tens of thousands of others, in an imnsely positive way. Thank you
Thank you so much!
thanks for a cool tips!
Thanks for watching 🙂
Great video!!!!
Thank you. I did it several years ago. I’m glad it’s still useful.
Fantastic thank you some real gems there particularly No 17 been struggling with what had been going on there :-) Cheers
Thanks so much for watching.
excellent tutorial
I don't know if this has been mentioned, too many comments to browse through but to copy half the heart 1st draw the heart, then a rectangle large enough to cover the half you don't want, select both shapes and then GEOMETRY - DIVIDE. You will then have 2 halves of the heart and a rectangle with half a heart cut out of it. You probably have a video of that tip by know but if you don't.
Yes, this was only my second video (about 2yrs ago) and I had just come from Photoshop. Since then I have done videos on that. Thanks for pointing it out so others may see your comment and learn from it.
Hi, re the perspective tool - I tried this method on windows and it didn't work when getting back to the same size (not stretched). Any tips will be appreciated.
I am not sure why. Was it on a separate layer and if so can you resize it? If you can, then the guides could be set up in advance as per the video.
Great, thank you so much !
Thanks so much. Glad you found it useful.😊
Very well done. Just subscribed.
Thanks so much.
Awesome video
This is so freaking helpful
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
I actually stopped the video to change the ruler to inches instead of pixels. thanks!!
I sometimes have to rewatch my own videos to remind myself how I did things. That video was done over a year ago, and I forgot some of the tips
LoL. Thanks for watching.
Hey folks. If you want the POLYGON TOOL > You have to select FREEHAND SELECTION TOOL under that icon to have the polygon appear in the upper tool bar. .... that’s what I have to do anyway. 🤷🏼♂️
The reason the pixel layer works like that is because it is to prevent distortions when you have a photo or texture in it
Great video
Thanks
Really good
Thank you, great job :-)
THANK YOU!
Excellent
Thank you and thanks for watching.
I always get adobe ads on these videos man I hate it
Lol. They must be getting worried.
I'm new to this program and I like the content of your video, but I find it too fast, too much, and too hard to comprehend all at once. I will keep trying to keep up with you in future videos if you are still making them, thanks.
These were quick tips to get people started. Videos can be paused or rewound. Most of my other videos deal with one subject and move slower. (Maybe too slow 😃)
@@DigitallyFearless Thank you so much for your explanation.
