    Thank you for a very informative video. As a transitioning newbie I'm encouraged to make Affinity Photo my default image editor.

      You are welcome Lance. I switched from Photoshop to Affinity Photo a couple of years ago. I now use Affinity Photo for all of my advanced editing. I do not miss Photoshop at all. I have tried every image editor out there, including the free ones. Affinity Photo beats them all. Especially for the price.

      I agree. It is also great for professionals too. I used Photoshop and Lightroom for years as a professional and having used Affinity Photo for the last couple of years I can say that I have never needed to go back.

    I am moving from PS Elements to Affinity but would be over the moon if you could show how to reproduce the 'Grunge' type of watercolour effects that are popular in PS. Not having the Filter gallery is a problem but I could apply the Dry Brush and Cutout effects in PSE and import that into Affinity. The masking and layering in PS is difficult to translate into PSE because of the use of groups. I was hoping to overcome this by using Affinity but I can't find any examples of this technique anywhere whereas there are loads using PS.

    Do you have a video on the difference between bilinear and Bicubic? I notice bicubic is non destructive and gives you the exported results you did in the project vs the other than destroys your photo's quality.

    I'm puzzled. How does your first tip work? As I recall, when masking black conceals, and white reveals. How does a transparent background act to conceal? BTW, you've got a new subscriber.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography

      Hi Leroy. Welcome aboard.
      I can understand the confusion. When using a pixel layer as a mask it uses the alpha channel of each pixel to determine the mask information. So all colours, even black will be opaque as the alpha channel for the colour is positive and so the pixel reveals. You must either use the eraser tool or paint with a colour with it's opacity lowered to conceal. The opacity is determined by it's alpha. When creating a normal mask layer using the mask icon at the bottom right of the control panel then it creates a layer that has only alpha information. In this case when you paint it uses the brightness of the painting colour to determine the alpha value. Allowing you to paint with varying levels of opacity just by selecting a new colour or greyscale brush.
      I hope this helps. I really should create a video about this.

    This dude is the most awesome guy ever. "How to turn this to a mask" ... "just drag it here, DONE" . how to turn other things to mask ... drag this to this, DONE.

    Is there a way to make CTRL 0 fit the image on screen, like happen on Photoshop? On Affinity CTRL 0 does NOT fit the image, since there is a boring BORDER outside. I would prefer that CTRL 0 does FIT the image, really.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Good question. As far as I can see there is no way to remove the border.

    • @Esclarecidos
      @Esclarecidos 2 года назад

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography This is a huge problem that Affinity team must solve as soon as possible. There is absolutely no reason for wasting precious screen space with that boring border.
