That is a great question and for this particular docking station you will need to download the display link drivers in order to allow access to HDMI ports 1 and 2. HDMI ports 3 and 4 for this particular docking station do require that the laptop host supports DisplayPort Alt Mode through the USB-C port. I hope this information is helpful.
Finally! I have been running one I coughed together using display adapters run through USB 3.0 using plugable port replicators and graphics adapters. This will be on my wish list for sure.
We are happy that we're able to provide this type of docking station to our customers as a four display docking station is one of our most requested devices.
Great product and video. The explanations are superb! I mean... not only telling which are the features but also explaining them from a technical point of view. From another computer science guy. Cheers.
I purchased this about a month ago. LOVE IT! I had tried Belurus docking station (or whatever it’s called) J5 create, nothing worked, but THIS is working beautiful! Thanks Plugable. Oh, if I do have one request, up the charging wattage. My laptop has a 130 watt charger which has caused a few little issues, nothing I haven’t overcome, but if your station had 130 capability it would help.
That is a great question and yes, all of these displays extend the desktop, but they can also be used to mirror other displays. In the video, we do demonstrate how this extends the. computers desktop to all four displays independently.
I have finally set up a dual monitor with laptop. I use a similar docking station as I have multiple work laptops. My only issue is what to do with all of the adapters and cords. They are plugged it a power strip, but it looks a mess. Suggestions
Hello! Cable management is a tough one as everyone's desk setup is a bit unique. A combination of cable sleeves, cable ties, or custom cables with specific lengths can help tidy up the area. Those are some initial ideas we have for a clean desk, I hope it works out for you!
Hello Preston, thanks for reaching out. It looks like your Lenovo would support the UD-3900C4. If you'd like a recommendation from our product experts, you can reach them here: plugable.com/pages/support
There are quite a few laptops that will support this docking station, but in particular, you'll want to look for Laptops that support MST as that is the primary technology that allows for this many displays to be connected. Typical laptops that support thunderbolt three or thunderbolt 4 should support MST. It should be noted, that Apple products do not support MST and will not allow all four displays to be connected.
That's an excellent question, with this particular docking station paired with a MacOS computer, we would expect potentially up to three unique screens to be extended. Four displays with this docking station is not something we would expect to achieve with any MacOS product. Depending on which version of the chipset a MacOS device utilizes, we do have quite a few options for achieving a 4 display MacOS system. If you'd like more information on this in your specific system, please don't hesitate to message us at Support@Plugable.com
Based on the specifications that I could find, it looks like that laptop should support Thunderbolt 3 connectivity which should make it fully compatible with the stocking station.
Hello Stefano! Thanks for reaching out. A quick glance at the specs of your Elitebook, it looks like the USB-C / Thunderbolt port supports DisplayPort 1.4. With that in mind it looks like you should be able to use the UD-3900C4 provided your displays have HDMI connections. If you'd like more information on this or other products, be sure to reach out to our Product Experts at plugable.com/pages/support Thanks!
Hello and thanks for asking! The UD-3900C4 shown in this video unfortunately will most likely not work with a desktop computer. The dock requires USB-C Alt Mode features that are generally not present on desktop computers. We would instead recommend a product such as our USBC-768H4 which is software driver driven. However please note that a graphics card is still required, and at least one physical display must be connected to the desktops built in graphics card for this configuration to work as expected. Please let us know how we can be of additional assistance. You can also reach us at support@plugable.com or Plugable.com/Support Sean // Plugable Technologies
Currently, we cannot recommend any switch capable of switching this type of product as it would not only need to switch the USB connections, but also support the MST functionality for all displays to a function. Additionally, such a switch would need to support the Power Delivery function for charging the laptop. We have seen some switches that could potentially support this type of device, but they do tend to be prohibitively expensive and primarily marketed towards industrial use.
The compatibility with this docking station mostly depends on if your computer supports MST connectivity through the USB-C ports. Typically if your computer's USB-C port supports DisplayPort 1.2 or higher you should be able to get four displays connected with this docking station. If you're unable to find this information, you're welcome to message our support team at support@plugable.com and give us the exact model HP EliteBook that you have so we can look up the information.
The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 has Thunderbolt 4 ports which should support Alt Mode with DisplayPort 1.4 and that meets the MST requirements for the UD-3900C4. In short, this dock should be fully supported by that computer.
It looks like there are a few different versions of each of those computers so it is hard to find technical specifications regarding the display capabilities. As such, you may need to contact the computer manufacturers to verify if they support the specific technical specifications for this particular docking station. To help out, here is some information that we wrote to help identify the specific type of MST support your computer may have. kb.plugable.com/question/1390562
Hello Edder! We're not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish. Would you be willing to reach out to our support at plugable.com/pages/support and describe your inquiry in detail? A product owner, such as Richard here, will be able to give you a detailed response.
It depends on what 4K docks you are thinking of. For the most part this docking station is meant to provide a product that can provide 4 displays with one docking station rather than adding additional USB display adaptors.
@@jztpnt That is a fantastic question. We have not tested the DisplayLink Hotdesking software with devices like the UD-3900C4 that use a combination of display technologies so I can not for sure predict how that would work. However, it should have no problem remembering the positions for the DisplayLink displays, as it would for any DisplayLink device using the hotdesking software. We do know from testing, however, that the host computer does remember the positioning of displays after you have rearranged the display positions through the display settings.
@@Plugable Thanks for the prompt response. This seems to me a cost effective 4 monitors docking option for business hotdesking environment where 1080p per display is a better fit. Looking forward to the availability in my country.
Hi there! While this docking station is limited to providing up to three displays due to MST not being supported on MacBooks, there are alternative options to get four displays working that do not involve DisplayPort MST technology, such as adding additional USB video adapters. Please consider contacting us at support@plugable.com. We would be happy to help you find a solution that will work for you based on your laptop's capabilities.
Such a configuration may be possible, but it would depend heavily on the host computer you are connecting to and the types of displays that you plan to connect. It would be best if you were to contact pluggable at Support@Plugable.com
We're sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your UD-3900C4. We'd be more than happy to help troubleshoot the issue. Please feel free to reach out to our support team at support@plugable.com. They'll ask for some information/diagnostics and begin troubleshooting the issue. We look forward to hearing from you.

To take advantage of 4 external monitors, does the laptop need to have a dedicated GPU, or is an integrated GPU sufficient?
A laptops integrated GPU should be sufficient for running this docking station so long as it supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
