    My parents hammered the importance of clean pits into my head at a very young age. I passed this parental advice onto my son, especially as he approached his teen years. I've witnessed dirty pits actually clear rooms!

    Great info. How well does it hold the heat? On my pellet grill I use a welders blanket in the winter, but on the kettles the vent is on the lid. Thanks!

    Sweet. Now do the same thing for the SNSK. I’ve been using mine daily for over a year and...it could use a cleaning. Also, can Windex be used on the outside or will it damage the ceramics?

  • @digijams
    @digijams 3 года назад

    Thought I was the only one that used windex on my kettle. I clean the top of the kettle before each cook, if there is dust and dirt on the top when it heats up it could get embedded in the porcelain, always worked for me.

    Instead of glass cleaner which has amonia in it and steaks usually pretty bad, use a degreaser like Purple Power (inexpensive - found at Walmart) diluted around 10:1 or 4:1 depending on how dirty. Just don’t spray that on the inside cooking surfaces.
    Now If you wanna take the grates out and do a clean with degreaser on the inside (say maybe once a year), before cooking do a good long burn before cooking any food. You can rinse throughly with water before the burn-in too after using a degreaser on the inside of the kettle. But I wouldn’t clean the inside but maybe once a year.

    I have a S&S that’s always well 95% of the time in my Performer. I use a foil oven pan trimmed in the shape of the S&S griddle. I scrub my grill with foil, and sometimes I will put a pan of water on grate, open drafts and let the steam work on grill then scrub with a ball of foil.

    Does S&S have color matched repair paint for chipped enamel? In the past I’ve always favored Black for ease of repair (my cookers travels with me a lot so they get dinged unfortunately)

      They told me Krylon makes a good high heat paint. My grill chipped around where I was tightening stuff down on the side lol

    Foe the outside once it is clean. Maybe put gel gloss on works good. Take care

    My charcoal and ash go in a little aluminum trash can with lid. I put them in here for a few days before disposing of. I Got it from Walmart for a few bucks. It’s gives a little piece of mind when disposing of ashes.

      I use a tin cookie container. It’s the right size and I’m cheap. It’s basically free after eating the cookies, and they’re air tight

    Hey Justin, I hose my weber kettle, the slow-n-sear, and grease pan, inside and out, with a high pressure nozzle, do you see a problem with that?

    Does a new SNS grill need to be 'burned off'? If so, what is the best way to do it?

    • @SnSGrills
      @SnSGrills  3 года назад

      Hi Jerry,
      I'm not customer service and you might want to check with them at info@snsgrills.com. General speaking, it never hurts to burn off any new grill. A simple way to do it would be to fill up the SnS half way with burning coal w/ vents wide open and let it burn out. However, it may not be a bad idea to check with customer service.

    Dawn and a razor scraper are the one true cleaners of the interior of a kettle. Ok, that's two cleaners, but whatever.

    • @SnSGrills
      @SnSGrills  3 года назад

      Jon this video covers the minimum effort needed to keep a kettle in proper working order. It IS NOT intended to be a restoration video. Dawn and razor scrapers work great, but they are above the MINIMUM care needed. Thanks for watching!

    1 thing... PLEASE stop using a wire brush on your grates. I personally have a friend whose daughter got a piece of brush wire stuck in her throat. He cooked burgers and 2nd bite she started choking. 3 hours later they showed him about a 1/16th inch piece of wire. The surgeon later told them it tested to have Beef fat on it. Yes, i use the wire on the inside BUT on the grate I use either the plastic brissell's , the one that look's like twisted mesh or just balled up foil. Great tips though Justin, I really like the window cleaner tip.
