You, sir, are my hero! I was having this exact problem! Games would alternate between the grinding noise (70% of the time), electronic noise but no disc play (20% of the time), and actually working (10%) of the time. Bought an $8 electronics repair tool kit and stripped down my system, installed the slip of credit card, and now my games play noise-free 100% of the time. Genius and thank you so much for the great video and excellent detail on how to install the credit card ramp perfectly. Took about 1.5 hours. FWIW, I have minimal electronics work experience and got this the first time.
Did this fix about a month ago as my drive wouldn't let the disc spin, taking disc out and inserting multiple times would eventually get it to spin up. this fix has worked perfect I have not had one issue since, thank you !
Guys this actually works no joke :) Ty man u saved me and as I can see a lot of them a good sum of money :D Thanks again and guys try it, it freaking works.
Followed the video to the letter and now it works perfectly, be careful when taking apart the Xbox that you don't disconnect the ribbon in the front casing
My issue is that my blu ray drive outright doesn't take the disc nor make any sound whatsoever. Weird part is that if you partially insert the disc and press the eject button, it makes the eject button chime, once the disc is removed, and I press the eject button, it makes the no disc chime, but the drive remains lifeless. I've opened it up but see no issues at all.
Appreciate the tutorial/solution. Did a deep clean yesterday that didnt fix it. Still works sometimes, but makes noise. Would also lubing the arm tip and channel of the other piece make it slide together better? After tearing down the xb1 yesterday, could probably do it in half the time. Kind of spacious in there, i can see how they slimmed it down without much redesigning. Cheers
This solution didnt fix my disc drive. But the parts that this vid addresses, wasnt my problem after all. Everything looks to be in top shape. So I believe its just a worn out laser. The grind I hear is the laser motor, or specifically this little white plastic tip/arm on the laser assembly moved by the metal screw, or not fully connecting with it rather. That part however, is nowhere to be found. So I concluded it needs a new laser. But I can purchase a whole oem disc drive (used/tested) for $18 incl shipping. That's what I ended up doing. But really educational seeing how these things work.
Yes this is my problem however, it does it with all games but after a few tries of putting in and closing certain games they will eventually turn on but Evil Within and BF4 simply won't start up
My disc drive is really weird, when you put it in it’ll make a grinding noise for like 4 seconds then stop, sometimes it doesn’t do anything but you can hear the laser moving, but it never spins up, SOMETIMES it does. Like right now I have a disc in it that spun up fine, it works fine even when I turn it off and back on, but if I take it out and try putting it in again it won’t work again. I’d have to keep inserting and ejecting it over and over again until it works.
Nice. My grinding noise came from the plastic piece that helps move the laser to the front and back, seems these break easily so if this doesnt solve the issue try that!
Sometimes the hole wears slightly oblong as well in the plastic. This is only a temporary fix. Now remember this is a console not a PC. If the drive has issues modding it with repairs like that is only a temporary solution and will wear out again. They don't sell replacement parts for the BD drive so the old parts will eventually wear out. If one is an avid gamer then one should invest in a PC or build one.
How do I clean the inside of my drive. My son put something inside it and every time I put a disc in and take it out the disc has a greasy substance on it. Please help Thank You
The problem with mine is that it doesn't suck the game in so it does not do anything. What I don't understand is that yesterday I installed red dead 2 HELP
My Xbox One won't read discs. You can hear the disc trying to spin a little bit then it stops & repeats this 5 or 6 times before just stopping (no grinding noise) Would you say this is happening to mine as in this video?
Chief Predz its the better way to fix the problem but in some cases like in brazil we are taxed a lot by the government. For exemple in brazil one drive bougth for £30 will cost about R$ 100,00 plus R$ 70,00 for taxes. So expensive then to find another way to fix that in some cases are the best way.
My daughter put a business card in the disc drive. Can anyone help me? Would I just be able to take apart the xbox take out the disc drive then just pull the business card out???
Seems legit amd likely this is eV simple promlem I see online ppl say the disc drive needs repaired or replaced they lie and want ur money all u do is void ur warranty and do this I did th is with a xbox 360 same promlem inside slightly different tho but good job
gonna try this morro. typical that the drive flops soon as i pay £110 for new CoD😢, can only play WoT and Bf4 cause they digi dl'd thank fugg. Thats the end of my collecting the physical games now. Its a conspiracy to get everyone to go digital.lol
Wow, I'm impressed ... Never seen on youtube a video tutorial so detailed and professional, my compliments!

Great job! You explained everything very well. I look forward to trying this soon!
Very very nice video. Loads of detail. Thanks a lot
Mine is doing the same thing i got rid of the grinding but a beeping sound in the disc drive is still sounding
my drive works mechanically but does not want to read discs, what is the solution for this?
Lol mine it's growing like the sound when it's reading and after that bip bip bip
Great job dude!

Could you make a video from that?

the trend is getting worse as time goes on. take care.
This what mine would do as well. You could put the disc in 10-15 times and eventually it would work. This fix worked for me.

Can you add a high res picture of the gears or show a video where the black spring goes? Mine fell out, and I can't figure out where it goes. Thanks!!
it goes under that metal bracket and on top of the right side plastic gear... pain in the ass
Got it, thanks!

What was the name of that song?
How do I clean the inside of my drive. My son put something inside it and every time I put a disc in and take it out the disc has a greasy substance on it. Please help Thank You
Why does it run right away when you put in the disc? It should stumble and then not want eject the disc
I don't know why but the solution is in the tutorial above, and your problem will be solved.
The problem with mine is that it doesn't suck the game in so it does not do anything. What I don't understand is that yesterday I installed red dead 2 HELP

I Think so that this is the problem

iTs iCreazYY bought a new drive off eBay for £30.....now it's like new again. Easier to do that than messing around.
Chief Predz its the better way to fix the problem but in some cases like in brazil we are taxed a lot by the government.
