Question for everyone watching - are you a knife maker? Do you want to make knives? Or do you just like watching build videos? - If you are a knife maker lets see your work! Drop those insta handles below. Follow me @99echo and help with my next knife.
The reason I like the videos are that they are simple, clean, not a lot of fanfare or talking/instruction etc. It goes to show you that you don’t have to necessarily talk for 20 minutes and people can still learn things. Thanks much for your time and content.
Yeah I don't consider myself a bladesmith either. I figure you have to do some kind of forge shaping to have that label. Need some kind of anvil for that. Love the brute de forge look. What do you primarily make?
Hey, this is a great looking knife. You did a fabulous job. You’ve asked in the past what type of content that folks would like to see. If I would say anything that I would like to see, it’s honestly just more labels. What type of steel, what type of handle materials, what type of sandpaper‘s/grits etc. I think that would be the most beneficial. Now, that may be asking a bit much but I would love to see a clock for the time that you have invested in the knife and how long each process takes. Especially the sanding. No worries either way if you did it or didn’t do it… Still enjoy watching you work. Thanks again for the content.
You're awesome Scott, it takes a lot more time to add all that info and I wasn't sure if people even cared for it. Glad to hear you appreciated it. Still feeling things out and establishing my content style so your input like this is greatly appreciated. Trying to find a balance between informative and entertaining. Your clock/time idea is interesting too. I'll try to find a way to represent that. Thanks again! I'm sure you'll like the next one
Awesome vid and a new sub here. Question, what kind of grinder is that? I need to move up from the Harbor Freight 1x30 and that one doesn’t look that crazy which is a good thing. Again thanks for the awesome vids!
How it holds edge after simple heat treating like this? I want to build small kiln for aebl and d2 steel but dry ice or liquid nitrogen will be problem for me and i am curious if it worth or not.
So I sent an AEB-L knife to a chef that I heat treated like this and they say it holds up as good as their other knives. If it does dull, they give it a few passes on some honing steel and it's good as new. The only thing I'd reccomend is using SS foil and aluminum quench plates. Just picked some up and it works great. If you get a kiln then the dry ice makes sense since you can maximize the HRC, but for me using the forge, it wasn't worth it.
@Tim Just like your personality and your entire life basically, but someone mixed things up when you've been assembled you somehow turned out to not only be useless but also disappointing and rude. Don't like the vid ? Then don't watch it. What, you're stopping every people you meet in the street to tell them you don't like the way they're dressed ? At what point do you think Tim's opion could be slightly relevant ?

Consider myself a “blacksmith“ more than an knife maker but I have made a few knives and enjoy it. Far from a “bladesmith“.

I love how you smoothed down the edges
Gotta make it comfortable
Awesome work. Get yourself some no twist clamps and a set of 1-2-3 blocks. Your handle fitting will be so much easier!
Haha guess what just came in the mail today, some mag mates. Wrong size though. How would you use the blocks?
Another great looking knife!
Good job, buddy!
Thanks brotha!
That would make a great camp blade
That it would, chop some meat fireside lol
Rad cleaver my friend.

Great video, what material is the handle, thank you
Thanks! It's called dymalux laminated wood. The top part is G-carta. You can check the description for more info.

Yeah budget shop over here haha. It's a 2×42 palmgreen. There's a couple brands that are basically the same product around $200.
Shoooot. Perfect! I’m on that. Where do I send some pics of some blades I’m working on? I’m about 3 months into making blades.

Great vid as always ! I really like your work, it would be pretty cool to make a collab
Of course! That'd be sick. Shoot me a DM on Instagram and we'll figure it out @99echo
Highly unimpressed. I watch these for creativity. This looks almost like a kit!
Cool comment
