Hi, I'm Avalon! Welcome to the 99echo channel.
On this channel, you'll find fast-paced build videos on the different kinds of projects I undertake in my garage. My main focus is making one-off custom knives but I have plans to restore some old tools, work on some leathercraft, and any other interesting projects I can get my hands on.
I started my knifemaking journey at the onset of COVID-19 during the quarantine. I'm by no means an expert and I don't use fancy grinders or heat treat ovens but, with enough time and effort, I think anyone can make awesome-functional knives.
Just a reminder, a lot of the tools and practices I use to make knives can be very dangerous. Please do your own research and use your best judgment before attempting the things you see.
Stay safe and enjoy!

Knife Making: A Tiny Two-Finger knife
Enjoy a fast-paced build video of this quick commission piece. Using a new lens here and made some tweaks to my editing. Let me know what you think.
The client wanted a small knife that they could easily carry around. Took inspiration from two other knives I've designed which should look familiar if you follow me on Instagram. Shrunk everything down to the bare minimum while still keeping the ergonomics. Not shown is a lanyard I tied to the bottom which gave you a little more grip. All in all, it's a comfy little utility knife.
Take notes on the stone-washing technique ;)
I only film about half the knives I make. Check out the rest on my Instagram: 99echo

Knife Making: A Full Tang Hammered Gyuto
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.2 года назад
I'm still getting caught up in the shop so I went back a few builds for this video. Nothing too crazy design-wise as I wanted to keep it as clean as possible. A cut test video I posted on instagram with this knife did go viral though. The comments were hilarious - you can check them out here: 99echo I owe a few people a breakdown of my SHARPENING PROCESS so here it is: 1. Use a 4...
Knife Making: A Modern Hybrid Nakiri
Просмотров 191 тыс.2 года назад
Another go at a kitchen knife that has some Japanese design influences for the blade (a nakiri having the most resemblance) but gets a little crazy in the handle. Had some awesome live-edge pieces from my guy over at Aidan Knight Wood and cast some hybrid scales. This is the first set of scales I’ve made using the new pressure pot setup. The resin is crystal clear! Used AEB-L steel hence the cr...
Knife Making: A Modern EDC Tanto
Просмотров 19 тыс.2 года назад
Enjoy this full build for a new tanto design I'm working on. Really liked the grind on this with the deep swedge. It almost gives it a dagger feel. Paired it with some nice shadowboxed redwood lace burl scales. The micarta liners (which were a last-minute add-on), complimented the colors in the wood nicely and pulled everything together. Lastly, I did two sheaths since the first "taco" sheath w...
One Year into Knife Making - Chef Knife
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
Back with a build video for a knife I completed right after the 1-year mark of my knifemaking journey Oct '21. Combined just about all the skills I've developed to create this knife and it's definitely helped me define my style... On my kitchen knives at least. Big thanks to everyone who has stuck around. I know my upload schedule has been inconsistent but I wanted to take some time to focus on...
Knife Making: Ringed Camp Knife
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
In this full build video, I'll be making a tanto camp knife. This project features a hammered forge finish, a karambit-style finger hole, and a contoured claro walnut handle. MATERIALS: - .110" 80CrV2 steel (Alpha Knife Supply) - Claro walnut from @burl_blanks - Black micarta liner - Gulso bolts (Maker's Material Supply) - .080 Black kydex (Holstersmith) - Ulti-Clip 2.2 Slim Check me out on INS...
Knife Making: X-Ray Skeleton Knife
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.3 года назад
I feel like every RUclips Knife Maker has to do a Skeleton build so here's my entry lol. This was a concept I've had for a while and wasn't sure it would work. I stumbled across the clear Kydex and gave it a try. Let me know what you think! Note to self - Don't use thin plastic as a resin mold. As the resin cures, it heats up and apparently gets hot enough to warp the plastic. Was able to salva...
Knife Making: EDC Destiny Hunter
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.3 года назад
Watch me make my first knife on my new belt grinder! This was a custom knife for a friend who wanted a carryable version of the Hunter knife from Destiny the video game. This design incorporated not one but two finger holes which took some tinkering to get right. I was also able to cut into an awesome G-Carta block from Greg Hanson for the handle. Still working on the best way to finish G-Carta...

Cool ❤❤❤
love all the positive comments here and wanted to leave my own. new to making knives and love the community and the help everyone offers. keep up the good work. you've got a talent.
Lovely knife. Kudos for using decent stainless steel instead of some scrap metal or low-alloyed steel that is nice to work with but a pain the butt to maintain in the finished product.
Whats the name of the file are you using for make the thumb grip? It makes multiple lines in one pass. Thanks, that's a rude knife.
Now that’s slick looking 👍
Good stuff. I would have turned the bladè 180 degrees, in the case that this was for defènsìve purposes and not for camping. When you're pulling the knìfe in a defènsìve situation, and particularly at very closè rangè, you want to go low, and "out of sìght" and for the soft gút and then cút upwards into vitàl orgâns. Then, you can flìp your arm over the top and go for the nèck if necessâry. The other way round puts you at a dìsadvantagè initially. eg: you are likely, unless otherwise traìned, to instinctively make a forwârd stàb and will likely just hìt rìbs.
To all that are watching.... It's not rocket science. Beautiful workmanship.
Awesome job brother.if i knew it was this easy to make kydex sheaths.i would have been doing it long ago!
Dude where did you go, these videos are ridiculously good 😩
dude how did you learn how to get those bevels so crispy. I just can't seem to get Tantos right at all 😥 your work is AMAZING
You make incredible knives. really like the choice of wood for the handle too.
That is by far the best looking kydex sheath using just two basic colors I have ever seen. Impressive work!
Could you please post a link to where you bought the fastenings for the sheath. I need those screws.
Amazing
Love the green. My favourite kydex sheath so far.
What’s that little rivet jig called? I’ve been looking for one
Hello, loved your video, where do you sell your knives?
That's real art
I love the way you explain and edit, simple but well done, you share tips and tricks, please more "how to" videos, especially of Kydex. 🙏🏼
I'm just getting into this Kydex stuff and this was one of the first things I wanted to try when I found out you could buy Kydex in colors other than just plain black or Olive Drab like you see on so many sheaths in so many tutorials The way I had it imagined in my head was doing the opposite, and just cutting a trim edge around the outside of where the knife is, and do the outer layer in color, and the inside in carbon fiber, but I guess this way makes way more sense Any tops for someone who has to make do with slightly more basic tools? (as in I don't have a garage/workshop to put a drill press or band saw in, I'm basically just using a heat gun to heat up the Kydex and a plank of wood and some C clamps on a table for pressure and getting.....mediocre results...)
👍👍👍
Dope AF results, @99echo!
Dope AF results, @99echo! This would fit right in at a high-end sporting goods catalog and/or retailer!
Very nice. Your whole setup is similar to mine. Great work 🤙 .m45_ knives
What is it's length
About 3 ½
@@iloveark582thanks bro
Those look amazing
Wonderful knife. I just received my order from Eurotechni, containing sandvik inox 10c28mo2, which I feel like purposing for a replica of your kitchen katana. Could you please tell me how long the blade is? And some 2,5 mm thick, probably? But I doubt i will get such a beautiful hamon on inox steel. Thanx in advance. TV
How much would it cost me for a sheath like that?
That is bad ass
Nice work!!! What kind of eyeletpress do you use?
blows my mind how so many knife makers (and chefs also) dont know how to sharpen. but knife makers especially. like making a knife is so much more difficult than learning how to sharpen.
Aeesome. Hugs from Brazil
How do you know how much to grind off the spine and the tanto edge to bring the 3 lines together perfectly on both sides?
How long did you let this etch in the ferric chloride? Thats the best finish ive ever seen!
Thanks! Usually 30 mins then check it for coverage, hit it with the steel wool and etch it again for 30.
Le couteau est très réussi. La lame semble formidable. Le manche vert est superbe aussi.
Incredible knife 🔪 👏
Hey 👋 man, how are you it's my first time commenting on your video 📹 and I am really love your work buddy nice job 👍 blessings 🙌 🙏
I for one appreciate you showing this, but mainly for the information list of items needed. Tthank you for sharing that! And well done sir!
the best yet one thing i say put a chopstick at the bottom at the press time to make a drain hole...but it looks like a scout carry so you know ...nice work
Beautiful Kitchen KATANA. The handle looks cool. 👍👍
BAD A$$!!
Pues que te ha quedado bien chulo,. felicitaciones
Can you do a custom sheath for a knife?
JThat is awesome. Lots of resin lost but at a good cost
Holy crap that looks so freaking GOOD. lol
L ' excellence !👍👍👌
Like that you kept the handle chunky
professtional bro
That looks soo freaking good :)
Quality build.
