    In this video, I review the New Powertec Leg Press Attachment. Powertec updated the attachment to give it a more robust design and a higher weight capacity. Can a leg press that connects to an adjustable bench actually be any good? Check out the review for my honest assessment.

    i had the old version, it's good equipment, the movement is slightly different from that of a horizontal press found in standard gyms, but very effective. the option is still cumbersome, if you have room in your home gym the ideal is to sacrifice a bench and always leave it on.

      Good to hear you liked the older model. At some point in this video, I mentioned it being pretty close to a horizontal leg press. However, I like that I can start with my legs extended with this attachment. On every horizontal press I’ve used in commercial gyms, I had to start in the bottom position.
      You’re right, if you can dedicate a bench to the attachment, that would be ideal.

    Great review looks awesome. I have Titan Squat Max MD so don't need it but it always amazes me at how many quad dominant leg machines and exercises there are vs hamstrings. I use my bench and rack roller to do GHDs and recently got XMark's leg curl/extension which I 95% only use for hamstrings and I think it was you who came up with 25/35lb weight plate hack and it WORKS great. I wish Power Tech has a chest/shoulder/back machine that was also small footprint their stuff looks incredible!

      Thanks so much and good to hear you’re happy with the Squatmax and XMark machine. I’m not the originator of that hack (I have no idea who is), but I think I am the first person to make a video explaining the purpose for it.
      I think Powertec’s Levergym and Multipress are very compact machines to work the chest, shoulders, and back.
      For hamstrings, I use the Titan Seated Leg Curl, the Powertec Leg Curl attachment, and the Powertec Hyper Crunch for both GHRs and hip extensions. If my back could handle it, I would also use dumbbells and barbells for hamstrings.

    As always, thanks for the great review! Looking forward to all your micro reviews you mentioned in the other’s comments sections. Didn’t realize PT updated this piece, just thought they were pushing it on their website for a sale.
    Can you speak more to the resistance profile? You mentioned the concentric portion increases in resistance but what about the eccentric resistance?(and specifically bottom end ROM resistance?) Hallmark of a great leg machine is high resistance in the stretched/ max knee flexion position to maximize Quad stretched mediated hypertrophy aspects. Given that criteria, what is your evaluation of this machine for that stretched mediated hypertrophy?

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  2 месяца назад

      Thanks so much.
      With the pin in the bottom safety, I needed slightly more depth to get that burning stretch in the bottom position.
      One day, on one of my heavy sets, I accidentally just held onto the pin rather than placing it into closest setting and that’s when I got the painful (in a good way) stretch. So there’s the option to leave the pin out while pressing or do a hack similar to what I did if you need the extra depth and want to play it safe when it comes to the yellow adjustment knob.
      Of course your bench settings, height, leg length will determine if my hack / leaving the pin out is even necessary.
      I posted some stories of today’s workout where I’m basically hollering because the stretch was so extreme.

    Hello again HGHR.. We did have a quick back and forth the other day on another thread here about the leg press..
    I am sad to say I have just wasted a good half an hour trying to get the leg press up and running again..
    After dragging it across the obstacle course known as the other end of the gym (lol), I could not get the stabilizing horseshoe piece of frame work lined up properly to the main upright bar (I have the now previous model). I managed to oil it and somewhat ungracefully get it off without acquiring injury to my hands.. I did then try a set without the stabilizing piece attached for a pair of 45's each side and then 2 45's each side. To be fair it did feel good.
    I did notice however, that the upright bar was going to buckle so I took it off and tried to re attach the other piece.. The thing slid down too far before I could screw in the pin that allenes the two pieces at the correct height.. May I add that is a shockingly bad design to have to do that.
    I tried to hammer it back up and out and only achieved in smashing the bottom plastic end cap that lines on the floor at the bottom of the upright.
    I am sad to say that this was a poor piece of expensive apparatus from powertec that Is really at times of adjustment a two man job.. I would be too embarrassed to sell it - so once I put it on the scrap pile now and relievedly so free up some room in my gym, I may just have the time to get on with some multi system leg press hacks, quick and easy enough, and salvage something of today's session.
    In my opinion the leg press attachment is a good idea but too bulky and poor/cheap in design in places to warrant me buying it again. If all else fails I can buy for less money a leg press conversion foot plate piece for my jammer arms without sacrificing floor space and expect at least slightly less faff trying to get the darn thing set up and taken down.
    I love powertec for a certain few pieces, most of all the lever gym, but the leg press attachment, just wasn't a winner for me. The constant 'need' to improve machines a little bit at a time is annoying also. Once they create a worlds apart 'lever' gym with a weight stack and horn, they will have my attention, not before by what will probably be having made the leg rollers longer and slight re design of the base/frame (for example). In my opinion the time is now to get all this stuff proper supped up. We know where and what there is to be done. anyhow, Cheers mate and keep up the good things.

      I am sorry to hear the old model didn’t work for you. I was never a huge fan of the previous model, but I hope I showed in this video the new one is much better.
      I would need to see exactly what the issue was, but, in my experience, the old model should be attached to the Levergym, Smith, or Rack for increased stability and the max weight should be 300 pounds.
      You may also want to contact Powertec and see if they can work with you.

    • @johnpain8380
      @johnpain8380 2 месяца назад

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews Good timing man, I literally just finished my work out, put the last data on my PC log and noticed you had replied.
      Yes I must agree that the new design looks much better by what you showed. It just begs the question that If the previous model was not the first model, why should it have been so poorly thought out (in my experience with it)?
      On mine there is a yellow pop pin on the horse shoe frame part that needs screwing in, but there are no holes like usual, it just clams metal on metal. Days are happy enough when it is in place but when it slips, it is a right ball ache to get readjusted if by myself.
      If is hard to reach powertec directly as I am in England, UK. and have to go through a reseller whose after sales coms leave a lot to be desired. I may email powertec direct and see if they get back to me? Thanks.
      At least I got to do both exercises back to back today in a fashion. The attachment is defiantly more quad bias with inclusion of a hamstring stretch. The vertical leg press hack seems to hit the hamstrings almost as hard as the quads, but is more outer quad than generalized. The hack, probably due to the thighs being pressed against the chest in the bottom position, is more challenging overall on the CV system. What I try to hit on C Day.
      Like i say squats are my main bag with leg ex. as primary accessory. Temporarily getting away from splits, I train 3 different full body routines once every 3-4 days at the moment. Stagering 3 different exercises for each major muscle group, one each session, over the entire format - 2 out of the 3 for smaller groups. A-B-C rotation, and the leg press is an after thought on a C day. I mostly like you, enjoy and find the best overall value in low volume on the linchpin of slow but steady micro loading poundage progression..
      The leg press is a rare exception however, All I want to do is a couple of warm up sets and 3x15-20 reps with 30 seconds in-between for a different feel on C day with minimum of fuss. I feel the hack is easy enough to get in and out of and on to the next move, for most training efficiency.
      I do concur that the leg press attachment is potentially a nice piece, and I will reach out to powertec, but I kind of like having a bit extra space in one corner of the gym.
      Thanks for your time and input HGHR, It is always useful and a pleasure to converse with a fellow powertec owner who thinks of the hacks and tricks you do.

  • @johnpain8380
    @johnpain8380 2 месяца назад

    Nice review there HGHR..
    I must admit that this is one piece that is going to get sold as it gets minimal use.
    I do like it (I have the now previous model) for both leg pressing and kickbacks, but it is just awkward mid workout to store, set up and take back down.
    I find the vertical (ish) leg press hack on the multi system or to as lesser extent on the lever gym (with the bench connected!) almost just as effective of a leg press providing higher reps are used as not to overload the machine. It is easier to set up and takes up no extra room.
    If I was more into leg presses over squatting movements I would probably seek out a dedicated leg press or even the compact leg sled over the attachment, but as it is for me, I find the vertical leg press hack with the center bar attached does a good enough job without the need for any additional attachment or stand alone extra piece of equipment. What are your thoughts on that hack just out of interest buddy?

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  2 месяца назад

      Thank you!
      Have you tried the clothespin hack to make getting the attachment in and out easier?
      In this video, I was going to compare the vertical leg press hack you’re talking about to this attachment, but ultimately decided to exclude it.
      I showed the exercise you’re talking about back in Levergym Hacks 4. For me, that exercise doesn’t work nearly as well as the attachment. Putting my feet on the handles or straight bar just doesn’t seem ideal and the movement feels “off.” However, I know not every exercise feels the same for everyone, so if it’s working good for you and you’re happy with it, that’s awesome!

    • @johnpain8380
      @johnpain8380 2 месяца назад

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall your previous mention of a clothes pin.. I have not tried it but may have to give it a shot out of interest. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!
      Yeah I guess due to different exact body structures, one man's machine hack gold can be another man's recipe for potential disaster. The one main problem is that we have to fit into any machine movement, yet can be safer than free weight lifting, again depending on any one individual's potential limitations.. pro's and cons to everything.
      The only slight issue with the leg press machine hack o find, is getting my legs/feet into position at a level that gives me a decent range of motion, but still doable for me. Once in it gives a decent stretch of the hammy's at the top and a smooth transition on the way down that for me is totally knee friendly.. I do maintain however, that a squat and an extension are my two preferred quad mainstay, with a leg press a welcome addition at times I want to give the lower back and/or knees a slight break.
      I am glad you like the attachment, like I say, apart from the plug in plug out/store it out of the way faff, it is a decent unit, and again, thanks for jogging my mind about the pin hack buddy, a good mention there 👍

      I am really surprised you didn’t like the stand-alone Leg Press. In your opinion, what needs to be improved?
      When someone asks me which Powertec Leg Machine to get, if money isn’t a factor, I usually recommend the stand-alone Leg Press because of the 1,000 pound weight capacity. However, with my back issues, I like the Sled better.
      Really good to hear you like the Leg Press attachment. I think it’s important for people who read the comments and are trying to decide on a purchase to hear other lifters experience with various pieces.

      @WhistlerUK 2 месяца назад +1

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews The stand alone leg press is very well made and smooth in use, but I found it really compressed my lower back, even on the lowest back pad setting.
      The swivel foot plates on the leg press attachment really make this machine IMO, they definitely help remove stress on my knees, and IMO its more lower back friendly than the sled, but the sled gives you more options than the stand alone or the attachment, being able to drop the rear pad right back and do hack squats is a great feature.
      So Lat tower attachment next?, if you do get it try declining the rear bench pad when using the lower pulley for rows, that really helped remove lower back pressure.

    HGHR, I need some advice. I already own a powertec FID bench and it’s currently not getting much use. If I were to get this attachment it would permantly live attached to that bench. I love the idea of a home leg press and I know that the traditional 45 degree press would be ideal, but I don’t know if it’s truly worth the additional cost and space constraints. I’m working with a single car garage for room. What would you do in my situation? Thanks and love the content!

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews

      I really like the Leg Press Attachment, but the New Leg Press is on another level, especially if you are strong. If you can find the space, I would get the 45 degree leg press.
      In one of my garage gyms, I was working with 1/2 of a two car garage and I got the old Powertec Leg Press, the Multipress, and the old Powertec Smith with a high / low pulley, and the attachment organizer to fit and I still had a decent amount of room. You’d be getting a piece of equipment that should last you the rest of your life.
      With all that said, I still think you’d be happy with the LPA. It’s hard to explain, but it just hits my quads in a way the Sled and Leg Press don’t and if you keep it connected that eliminates the trouble of connecting, disconnecting, and getting more use out of the FID Bench.

    Hey I have a question. I haven’t done leg press in about 10 years. I used to use the cybex 45 degree leg press & loved it. Now fast forward I’m looking to get a let press for my home basement gym. Money or space isn’t a problem, but I don’t want to waste money on something I don’t need. I’ve been watching your powertech leg press videos and for about $1500 that looks to be a good choice. However there’s someone selling new 45 degree angle leg presses on eBay for $3000 with shipping, & the description says they are identical to the Precor Icarian 45 degree angle leg press. It days they are made in the same Precor factory. Are you familiar with that particular leg press? It looks similar to the cybex. My question is do you think it would be a waste of money & the $1500 powertech leg press will do the trick just as good. Apologies for the lengthy question.

      If money and space wasn’t an option, I would find one of the old Cybex Squat Press Leg Machines…that’s the Leg Press I remember being the best from my commercial gym days.
      The Powertec Leg Press is commercial rated with a 1,000 pound max weight capacity. It’s a really good compact 45 degree leg press. The leg press you’re talking about will feel more heavy duty and probably a bit smoother. It’s a tough call. I would need to see and try the one you’re talking about to really make a decision.

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  Месяц назад +1

      I think most machines / equipment can handle more than the listed weight capacity. For example, if someone loaded this machine with 405 pounds, it’s not like it’s going to collapse. However, I don’t think it’s worth the risk.
      While testing this piece of equipment, Powertec’s team likely saw something, either due to the integrity of the attachment or whatever it’s connected to, that lead them to set the max weight capacity at 400 pounds. 400 pounds is tough…more difficult than 400 pounds on the Sled or Leg Press.

I'm keeping it as a solid unit alone, I do I have a secondary bench for my rogue equipment for my rack, I thought I'd be using the powertec instead of the other adjustable bench but no but I love how commercial grade it is doesn't feel cheap and the bench, I'm thinking soon the line when I move out to get the lervege gym, like your video cause it's cool I appreciate gym equipment, I actually dont enjoy local gyms anymore like my firends do i dont see the benefits apart from socializing, the local gyms are they never update it like really old equipment broken down by southands of people daily. I expect, and it's usually benches taken by the time i get there for my workouts. Even if it'd not 2k on 5k value. 300lb, not a lot of space. Also, isn't the leg press technically a leverage leg press machine vs. the commercial ones cause the attachment reminds me of the leverage gym from your video. The dip machine and curl machine I bought cause of your recommendation and I was missing the leg press and dip and curl from my now fully built LA feel gym, but small town house so powertec came in clutch wirh rhe smaller equipment especially leg press, in all took 2k to buy the 4 equipment I expect to use all. The instructions were child's play best instructions I've ever seen from China, but I did happen to install half of it backwards but ik and I fixed it straight away and I'm not that smart. I had to get a guy to the cable machine cause it was too complex and it'd the same diagram. Haven't been to a gym before covid 4 years in the home gym where I started real training. 10/10. I spent FYI total 5h for the bench and leg press 1 person without a lot of gym knowledge building, hahaha. Dip and curl separately about 1h or 2h last night. I started doing ppl vs 4 years of daily full body, Squats or deadlift first, leg extention leg curl 2nd superset, 3rd be leg press so I don't max out and it's hard and 4th be Calf raises. When rhe new one comes out I may sell rhe other one to get the new one or keep both of them idk I love gym equipment, much rather have limit of 300vs a commercial one that won't fit in my basement and the leg press standalone u showed with the 700max compact would be to noisy for the basement so the leg press attachments my favorite. I didn't know about keeping the pin loose and not screwed. I always tightened the pin when I used it ( past tense). One time I used it with heavy weight and the flange part of the pin pierced right through the main attachment leg. It wouldn't come out. I had to cut the pin out from inside the attachment leg using a thin metal saw. I had to flip the whole multi-press on its side to do it. Leg attachment still works without the pin. @@HomeGymHacksandReviews I wouldn’t even have enough plates in my gym to do a working set on the compact leg sled. Looks ridiculous how much you have to load on it. I have a hack squat/ leg press and for the hack squat 2 plates per side is my current work set but man it’s a hard machine. Makes life way easier when you don’t have to spend all day loading machines.

      @@apcfitness I put my weight tree directly under the footplate so it’s 1 step to load the weight horns…it’s not bad…but nothing like the Pendulum Squat where 2 25s was a good work set.

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews wow I’d take that pendulum all day over the compact leg press. Bad choice to sell it.

    Wow that’s so weird that the 400 lbs is sitting on a post not touching the ground but held by the pin

      The weight is transferred to that front foot and the attachment tube connector also handles some of the forces that are generated while the attachment is in use.

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews okay. So I guess 200lbs after about half is transferred through the rest of the machine is not over the top. True

      Very good to hear you’re happy with it. Funny enough, I tried that and was going to include it in the review, but opted to leave it out.
      What you’re talking about reminds me of an exercise one of the pros was doing in the Battle for the Olympia series. I can’t remember who it was or even the leg machine…maybe the Hammer Strength Horizontal Leg Press, but the bodybuilder and his coach were raving about how good of an exercise it is. On the Powertec, it’s a little high for me, but I still feel the value.

      @HomeGymHacksandReviews hahaha, faxs also I'm adding standing Bent over row with the power tec and standing back row for back day. Over barbell Bent over rows which hurts my back if I'm not doing it correctly so in all 4 I 1 is amazing this should be in every one home gym. I felr like I had to come back for comment how good it is.

      It might be worth trying something similar to the hack I show in this video. When I first got the attachment, I pulled the safety pin out and just held onto it and as I was doing my set, the quad burn became more noticeable (just with that very little additional ROM). That experience ultimately led to the hack.
