This video quickly walks you through the reaction, mechanism and shortcut for chain elongation method using alkylation of terminal alkynes. We’ll start with a quick overview of alkyne reactivity and acidity including proper reagents, followed by the SN2 chain elongation step.
You’ll also learn a simple shortcut for coming up with the correct product WITHOUT having to work through the mechanism.

My sister from India used to watch your videos for her competitive exams and cracked JEE and now its my turn to crack NEET through your videos for chemistry!!!❤ Love from Indian
That's so awesome, a family tradition!
You’re one of the only teachers who make chemistry easier to understand ❤️❤️
I'm sorry to hear that you don't have a good teacher, honored and happy that my videos are helping make up for it.
@@Leah4sciyou are so beautiful can i have ur insta 😊
You're the best!! Thanks so much
You're so very welcome!
I used to watch your videos when I was in 10th, 11th grade. They really helped me back then. Thanks a lot for uploading these videos.
You're very welcome, so glad I could help!

You're very welcome! Glad it's helping
Thanku so much❤......... your video is so helpful for me........now I'm second year mbbs student 😊
You're very welcome! Congrats on making it to second year!
0:57 yes sodium in liquid ammonia often confused birch reduction with this
But you won't be confusing it :)
@@Leah4sci sure thing .. thanks
I had to come here after taking my finals. I want to say THANK YO! Your videos HELPED! I always recommend you to other students because personally feel like you make Organic Chemistry so simple. I learned so much, too much to the point that if I see a square I'll be like, "hey, thats a cyclobutane!" HHAAH but thank youuuu! The journey has been long, and tedious, but these videos were GOD SENT! I'm waiting on my exam grades, but the final was not too bad.
Thank you so much for your kind words, this made my night. I am honored to have been a part of this journey with you and greatly appreciate you continuing to share my resources and especially coming back after your final to let me know all this!
I got an A+ in my organic chemistry class..My current overall grade was 98.9% THANK YOU THESE VIDEOS HAVE BEEN A BLESSING.@@Leah4sci
Hii i am having problem with cyclo free radical compund with a pie bond resonance can you please tell how can solve it . Btw u are a great teacher ❤ loved your content
Mam can u pls upload a lecture on the mechanism of intein mediated protein splicing
I'm not familiar with that topic. I focus on Organic Chemistry videos for this channel
Tq madam
You're welcome
i want to ask u relating to organic chem, how can i contact u?

where is the Br coming from at 2:18
The alkyl bromide is the reagent for this second step of the reaction. To alkylate the alkyne, we must have a source for the incoming alkyl group. And here, that happens to be an alkyl bromide.
@Leah4Sci Good Afternoon Mis, lately I've come across an issue that confuses me a lot , when a hydrocarbon reacts with something and there is that arrow in the middle that has h2so4 or water or k2cr2o7 etc. I have seen videos where people add what is above the arrow with the one bellow the arrow and I've seen people chose not to that , and it makes me wonder indication is there that that tells me what to do.
there are some examples:
ruclips.net/video/Ykhn2psFmEM/видео.html (does add them together ) 7:53
ruclips.net/video/3-1H9zhOLGc/видео.html 2:22
many thanks
Technically the reagent should go above the arrow and solvent below, but I've seen everyone write it every other way for the sake of confusing students
Mam since you are making video from last 11 years sorry for asking but i want know your age now and make a face cam video on RUclips best tips for organic
I fail to see how my face or age or relevant to the content of this video
