This video was so helpful, I have my exam tomorrow at 2 and explaining the reagents and how oxidizing have oxygen.. I know it's simple but just that helped so much more than a few videos I watched. Thank you SO SO much!
Your videos are great. An analogy for organic chemistry is a lot like playing a musical instrument. Playing a musical instrument relies on muscle memory after understanding the mechanics of the music. Same for organic chemistry- there is the understanding part of the mechanics of how it works and then the muscle memory of getting these reactions to do what you need. So what has helped me is to keep writing these reactions our until it becomes second nature.

Best tool to use that helped me get As in all my classes. I would sit up front in class and press record on my phone and turn it over so the professors wouldn't know. I would take those recordings and listen to them every night, in the car, before exams and it helped me retain information better than taking notes or better than any other technique. It got to the point where I didn't even have to take notes anymore. I listened to the recordings one last time before exam day and I remembered every single detail the professor mentioned in those classes. I would be the first one done on the exams with the best grades lmao. And students were getting pisses bc they would take all these notes but I would just listen to my recordings haha.

Hey Leah, thank you so much for offering your knowledge in an approachable way. The problem I have had with the university, at least here in Germany, was the impersonal relationship between teacher and student. I am pretty scared to ask my teachers questions. Also, I think you have a very soothing, yet motivating voice. I will be a teacher in Chemistry for high school soon. We have a very compromised school model here in my city where the whole range of very restricted to very able pupils go to and mostly, Chemistry class will only cater to 2 % of pupils. It discouraged me to study for OC I and II whereas my pupils will not even get their heads around a structural understanding of chemical compounds. Pushing through will be a lot more encouraging with the help of your resources.
is there any way you can do a long video going over the most frequently seen/used patterns in ochem? Like how you laid out the oxidation and reduction patterns? It would be unbelievably helpful

I studied my ass off, and none of the reagents on the exam were ones we had previously used. Idk what to do, I knew the material but everything was different 😥
I got a 91% on my first orgo 1 exam, and then a 103.97 on my 2nd orgo 1 exam. I just took my third exam and absolutely bombed it, this is the first time we started learning about reactions and It’s so hard to memorize the stereochemistry and understand how things are moving in certain directions. Hello Leah, as an organic chemistry student who has watched and benefited from almost all of your videos, I am currently doing my master's degree in this field. I live in Turkey and frankly the economy is not very good here. According to the current exchange rate, 1 dollar is worth 30 Turkish liras and the scholarship I am currently receiving is around 120 dollars per month. The pdf guide you mentioned in the video seems to be very useful for the exams I am preparing for. Is there a chance I can buy this guide at a more affordable price? Whether you answer or not, thank you, you inspire me to be a good organic chemist. Love from Turkey 😊
That's a great question! The key is to create problems that are exactly the same, for a reaction you already CLEARLY know. Adding a substituent should change it for example 2-methyl-2-butene vs 2-methyl-2-pentene = same overall concept but an added carbon. The idea is to change it enough where it looks almost different but not. And when in doubt, use a problem set that includes a solution such as the free quizzes on my website so that you DO have the answers to double check your work. See the different topic quizzes here leah4sci.com/syllabus
Hi! Your videos have been super helpful. I have an exam tomorrow and I was wondering if you had any last minute study tips. I've been doing a bunch of practice problems and know of the mechanisms for the most part but am having some difficulty finding the patterns

At 52:40 you stated NaBH4 was another oxidizing reagent. I was taught it was a reduction reagent, so we should use a Jones Reagent to get to the last reaction. Is that incorrect? I’m only asking because it seems like the last part of the problem went unfinished. Thank you so much - test in 4 days.
this video is mostly helpful before or at least a week into the semester. This will not help you out if you are in the middle of the semester trying to catch up, or especially for final exams haha

@@Leah4sci hmm that's good. I will not be selfish fan of you. You are not just for me. You are doing excellent job. I am impresed of you'r methodology and everything you have.
Bruh I took Ochem 1 3 years ago and finally taking Ochem 2 this semester (I've switched majors and Ochem 2 wasn't required) so now I'm essentially playing catch-up trying to re-learn everything I've forgotten and I gotta say it's impossible. Don't know if I'm going to pass.
Oh wow, that's a lot to catch up on after being away from it for so long. That being said, it's absolutely NOT impossible if you're willing to do whatever it takes (aka put in as much time as possible with a good strategy)
hi! i'm from the philippines and i'm trying to purchase your orgo chemistry guide but i can't seem to find where the discount can be placed. is it still applicable?
just saw that you replied like three hours ago, so i am really hoping you see this okay so basically for different chapters I remember parts of the mechanisms and can go somewhat far for at least partial credit. I have an exam on Friday so decided to sit down and practice. I realized I remember zero reagents pretty much. I am freaking out because I know that we are going to have multiple predict the product and synthesis problems. Is there anyway that you could direct me to a reagent cheat sheet of some sort?
In most of Orgo, you'll see professors use line structures. If you need some practice with this, make sure to visit leah4sci.com/drawing-skeletal-structures-of-organic-compounds/
Your coupon code for 15% off for the reagent guide does not work. LEAH4SCI is not a valid code. Could you fix this?
He no longer uses a coupon code, instead let him know in the notes to seller and he'll give you a 15% refund

Hello ❤. Do you have something for the Heterocyclic Chemistry course?
I'm sorry, but I don't offer tutoring over social media. For help with questions like this and more, I recommend joining the organic chemistry study hall. Details: leah4sci.com/join or contact me through my website leah4sci.com/contact/
Hii... Thanku for organic chemistry videos really its a big help to all studants thanku so much
You are very much welcome. Glad to help!
👍😜
I am appearing my end semester after 4 days and I am in panic cause I don't have any basics hope this helps me.
I'm sorry you were panicked. How did it turn out?
Thank you soo much. It helps me a lot
Glad to help!
Thanks meam
Thats very useful for me
Happy to help!
Wowwww ,,, never knew chemistry was this easy
:) Great to know you found Chemistry easy! Keep on studying and all the best!
@@Leah4sci If chemistry is easy, what's hard?
leahhh youre such a help ❤
Happy to hear this helped you so much!
Sumup
Memorise based on understanding the Base of the concept
And keep o repeating it
Yes! Understanding is the key and practice keeps it fresh in your mind.
Nice..
Can u tell the name of book ( Organic chemistry..... Guide) that u show in this video ??
Details on this page: leah4sci.com/guide
final exam in 24h , 0 class attended , 0 study done , wish me luck
same, how did it go?
Wow, how did that turn out?
😭😭
Really???
I hope you have had turned pages of your books...... 😜
Oh wow! Thanks for catching this. You are correct that it is a reduction reagent.
How did your test turn out?
this video is mostly helpful before or at least a week into the semester. This will not help you out if you are in the middle of the semester trying to catch up, or especially for final exams haha
As long as it's helpful along the way, that's what matters!
it is a great video! just wish i had discovered it earlier in the semester ❤️
How do I find he information to find the patterns? Or find out why it does what it does?
I don't offer tutoring over social media, but I'd love to help you begin to recognize patterns and understand mechanisms. I recommend joining my organic chemistry study hall for complete help on all things Organic Chem. Details: leah4sci.com/join or contact me through my website leah4sci.com/contact/
you are amazing, you could be better as Professor in my science college and I not only learn these things besides I could see you every day..
Thanks for your kind words, but I think I'll stick to teaching online where I can help more students than in a single university
@@Leah4sci hmm that's good. I will not be selfish fan of you. You are not just for me. You are doing excellent job. I am impresed of you'r methodology and everything you have.
Trank you, have an exam tomorrow 🥰
You're welcome! How did your exam turn out?
Is this applicable to CIE A level
I am unfamiliar with that exam, so I don't know. This channel is created with the undergraduate Organic Chemistry student in mind.
Is the discount not available anymore?.
It is! leah4sci.com/guide
Me after watching this video : time to master organic chemistry
Also me : forgets the whole video after 5 mins
Oh no! Go watch it again! And pair it with this: leah4sci.com/memorize
Thanks lea helpful!!
You're so welcome!
Hahaha I AM listening to this while working out. Call that the workout from hell 💀
Lol. Studying while working out? Killing two birds with one stone!
That being said, it's absolutely NOT impossible if you're willing to do whatever it takes (aka put in as much time as possible with a good strategy)
awesome video! thx
Glad you liked it!
nice girl you are doing very good work. I am an Indian , me and my friends love your videos.
I'm glad my resources are helping you and your friends!
hi! i'm from the philippines and i'm trying to purchase your orgo chemistry guide but i can't seem to find where the discount can be placed. is it still applicable?
Contact me about this through my website: leah4sci.com/contact
Really freaking out in orgo 2… does the study hall also focus on orgo 2? If so will join
Yes, it does! Full details here: leah4sci.com/join
just saw that you replied like three hours ago, so i am really hoping you see this okay so basically for different chapters I remember parts of the mechanisms and can go somewhat far for at least partial credit. I have an exam on Friday so decided to sit down and practice. I realized I remember zero reagents pretty much. I am freaking out because I know that we are going to have multiple predict the product and synthesis problems. Is there anyway that you could direct me to a reagent cheat sheet of some sort?
need this
I didn't see this in time and hope your Friday exam went well. In the future, even for other subjects, try this method: leah4sci.com/memorize
something you learnt from the military??? new leah4sci lore dropped
lol, happy to add to the lore
l will love if u will use the structural formula
In most of Orgo, you'll see professors use line structures. If you need some practice with this, make sure to visit leah4sci.com/drawing-skeletal-structures-of-organic-compounds/
Love from India 🙏🙏
Thanks!
