For future US or Canada trips, stop at Dollarama or Dollar Tree to stock the kitchen inexpensively. Some of my favourite kitchen items come from Dollarama for less than $4.

Great video. Can't believe how cheap it all was. We did RVing in California, but in school holidays. Painful. But our highlight was RV camping in Yosemite. You just have to try that. Nothing like a bear walking past your window !
When you're ready to come back, I highly recommend spending time based out of St George Utah. Tons to see right there in the city area. And you're very close to some major national parks and national monuments. The north rim of the Grand canyon is accessible from the area and is much better views than the south rim. That also puts you only about an hour north of Las Vegas. Another area is highway 395 starting in the Ridgecrest area. All the way to Oregon is a beautiful drive with lots of great stop-offs. Best, three highways in the United States is highway 191 highway 89 and highway 395. All three offer incredible views and a collection of national parks unbeaten by any other highway. Looking forward to the next USA trip. Glad you guys got out this way.
@@RoamingRadfords made some auto corrections that my phone decided to use. Hopefully it makes more sense now but definitely check out those highways. 395 has some great side trips including death Valley and the mammoth Lakes area. There are some gentle hikes in the area even though you're in the Sierra. Highly worth it.
Approx 15 years ago I did 9 months touring around USA and Canada in a fifth wheel and truck. I found driving the 5th wheel easy (it was a small one in us standards) . So I would definitely recommend it . I was lucky that my Aunt lived in Texas so I could register both vehicles there.
Looking forward to every video update from you. I have traveled by RV in Australia three times before, and I really like the RV campsites there. There are swimming pools, bubble tubs, gyms, and some children's entertainment facilities. I had a RV trip around the UK, and most of the RV campsites were not very good. Only the Wooda Farm Holiday Park RV campsite in Cornwall could compare to campsites in Australia. After watching your American RV travel video, I am also planning my trip to the United States.
Next time you might try renting a diesel rig…fueling up in truck stops is so much easier than negotiating smaller gas (petrol) stations. Also keep in mind that many major rental co’s won’t let you take a rental into Mexico. Canada is no problem.

When you purchase your US RV, do you intend to base in one area, or move it from one city to a intended destination and store it, then do the same on your next trip. I assume some homework may discover RV parks that allow you to organise in this way. Great adventures, keep up the good work!

I lost my Dad 7 years ago but lost my Mum 21st January 2024 she put up such a brave fight her birthday was 13th jan, so she had 2 birthdays after them ( consultants) telling us she had only 6 weeks left, i recently found out i was not subscribed to a channel i loved to watch through seeing someone meet them lol, After loosing Mum feels like i am loosing my mind but was the same with Dad.
I totally get what you're saying about slide outs in your Kon-Tiki, we have a 17 year old Bessacarr (posher version of yours 😜) and would love extra width. I did see on Facebook a place that does adapted conversions and I'm sure it was a Kon-Tiki that had a slide on it. Could be your next upgrade 🙂

My wife and I are planning on buying an RV next year and keeping it in the States too, for long holidays. I'm curious to know how you intend to buy and register/insure it? Are you going to use a Montana LLC or do you have someone, such as a family member, in the State's, who you can purchase and register it through? If you are looking for an RV in the US you should check out the Tampa RV show in January or Hersey PA RV show in the Fall. Another thing to check out is Matt’s RV Reviews. Steve in the video you mentioned about your eyes not being the best, have you tried Amber vision glasses, you can use them day and night. When I was living on the road driving my artic truck I always used the to lower fatigue, this may work for you. If you try them please let me know how you got on with them.

Been meaning to ask you guys if the swift kon tiki wasn’t on the market what other model would you choose now ? As decided to go down the motorhome route but the swift is up there but looking into the coachman travel master 545 or maybe something else but not sure

Instead of buying an RV in the US would you consider shipping your motorhome over to the US? You could fly over to collect it and everything (including the toaster) will be in it.
What was the total cost f your trip? That was a great price for the flights! I live in California and you did really good on cost per event but was wondering the total and for how many days / nights.
I think the only costs that weren't included were our expenses for eating out, and they're going to look different for each of us. The trip was 12 days in total, so maybe add up all the costs we've given you in the video and consider what your eating out expenses would look like.
Was there a maximum mileage included within the rental agreement? I’ve just had a quick look on their website but couldn’t find anything other than the 100 miles up front charge.

Just wondering how safe it felt in the park ups and suitable for women travelling alone? 😊 looking forward to your next trip.
As long as I was comfortable with my van, I’d certainly do it alone. But we are big believers in trusting your instinct. If somewhere doesn’t feel right, move on!

I only mentioned the can opener because years ago I used to camp by motorbike. I went to Newquay with my mates (they were all in cars) and I was the only person who took a can opener and an inflatable armchair. There's another tip :)

If you go to the United States around Easter, I think you would really enjoy a road trip around Arizona. Page, Sedona, Flagstaff, Phœnix, Scottsdale, Tucson, Tubac, and lots of state parks in those areas. It’s so much easier to get camping spot in Arizona than it is in Florida. Spring is a BEAUTIFUL time to be in the desert.

Yet again Steve and Lyndsey another great vlog, I for one thought it was very useful as one day we would like to venture across the pond, I thought the RV hire was very good value (you obviously did lots of research, it’ll save us having to do it) I thought the half light was a bit pricey but one those things you only do once, yes I was one of those that didn’t know what a Cracker Barrel was. Hope to catch up with you at the show, if we can manage the two days we’ve booked(Friday and Saturday) Margaret has just had surgery on her shoulder and my arthritic hip doesn’t get any better. We are unable to travel as much as we used to, it's lovely you and the lads going to all different places. You are always going to get the nasty people so blocking them is the best thing. We do like the Dethleffs Grand Alpa, it’s a great layout, and Dethleffs seem to be very good quality, but they’re not cheap!

@sammyb99 it’s the replacement to our old Kon-tiki 649, we love the rear lounge layout, and was right on budget for us

We stick with our RHD and it’s fine. We actually do more European miles than UK miles!

What was the total cost f your trip? That was a great price for the flights! I live in California and you did really good on cost per event but was wondering the total and for how many days / nights.
I think the only costs that weren't included were our expenses for eating out, and they're going to look different for each of us. The trip was 12 days in total, so maybe add up all the costs we've given you in the video and consider what your eating out expenses would look like.
Was there a maximum mileage included within the rental agreement? I’ve just had a quick look on their website but couldn’t find anything other than the 100 miles up front charge.
There isn’t a maximum mileage, I think we took out 1100 miles and did 1300 miles so just paid a little extra when returning it

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the update. I’ve always felt this kind of trip in an RV was way beyond affordability but you have shown otherwise so I would certainly consider it. Just wondering how safe it felt in the park ups and suitable for women travelling alone? 😊 looking forward to your next trip.
As long as I was comfortable with my van, I’d certainly do it alone. But we are big believers in trusting your instinct. If somewhere doesn’t feel right, move on!

I only mentioned the can opener because years ago I used to camp by motorbike. I went to Newquay with my mates (they were all in cars) and I was the only person who took a can opener and an inflatable armchair. There's another tip :)

If you go to the United States around Easter, I think you would really enjoy a road trip around Arizona. Page, Sedona, Flagstaff, Phœnix, Scottsdale, Tucson, Tubac, and lots of state parks in those areas. It’s so much easier to get camping spot in Arizona than it is in Florida. Spring is a BEAUTIFUL time to be in the desert.

Yet again Steve and Lyndsey another great vlog, I for one thought it was very useful as one day we would like to venture across the pond, I thought the RV hire was very good value (you obviously did lots of research, it’ll save us having to do it) I thought the half light was a bit pricey but one those things you only do once, yes I was one of those that didn’t know what a Cracker Barrel was. Hope to catch up with you at the show, if we can manage the two days we’ve booked(Friday and Saturday) Margaret has just had surgery on her shoulder and my arthritic hip doesn’t get any better.
