    Front offices leak information to Woj/Shams in return for goodwill to use in the future or immediate info on what other teams are doing. If Leon Rose calls up Danny Ainge and proposes a trade, but Danny demands a higher offer because other teams are also asking for that player, Leon can go to Shams or Woj and ask if those other offers are actually real. And like you said if everyone else is speeding by 10 over the limit then you’re unlikely to be the one who gets singled out and caught for doing it. Every team wants to know what other teams are doing, and journalists want to know what every team is doing anyway for their own job. So every team talks to Woj, and Woj wants to know what every team is doing, and every team wants to know what everyone else is doing, but the communication is all roadblocked by Woj/Shams. Teams have to go through Woj/Shama because he’s the only party involved that teams have access to that knows what’s up, but they also have to reward him with info about their own team in order to get info out of him.

      Doesn't it all feel like high school drama? Like why be so secretive?

    • @Tonewes2023
      @Tonewes2023 2 месяца назад +2

      @@whatslaps Rather than secrecy it's about ambiguity, by speaking through a third party they make themselves seem less involved than they actually are. They have an easier time preparing, amending and wiggling their way out of minor infringements. There's this grey ambiguous area where these NBA teams can pretend like they sorta regret cheating because they were never given an opportunity to comment on it, and once they do have an opportunity to speak on the matter at hand the information has already been out there for a while so they have ample time to prepare an appropriate response.

    Video idea: "What make the jump-ball fair?" or "Are jump-balls fair?" i.e: What makes jump-balls less luck-based than just flipping a coin or playing RPS for first ball/possession. I think this would be pretty interesting to discuss, if purely for looking at a 'Jump-balls won/lost' statistic, lol. I don't think a stat like that even gets tracked anywhere, but I think it'd be pretty easy to do so. It would also give you the opportunity to evaluate what actually makes a "good" jump-ball toss from an official, a "clean" jump-ball from players and the actual 'skills and knowledge' that determine how to win jump-balls consistently.

    Tampering usually seems like a bit a of a subjective thing, the league kinda picks and chooses when it wants to crack down on certain things/times. But sometimes a person/organization does something so heinous/grievous that it is unavoidable that something needs to be done to teach a lesson and show that there are limits to that kind of stuff. Good point that PED's only get a certain level of attention based upon who is getting penalized for it, lesser names seems to mostly go unnoticed and things just move right along. Kinda too bad that Manu was such a prevalent flopper, seemed like a good player/person, but that kind of thing sorta mar's his reputation (to me at least). Also too bad about Stockton too I guess, a guy who was otherwise an outstanding player, tarishes his "good name" by doing stuff that he shouldn't, and becoming known for dirty play, not a great look. That Joe Smith situation is also messed up, doing risky stuff like that I don't think is advisable, but of course it seems teams and players will try and do what they can to work out favorably for themselves that they think they can get away with. *shrug* I guess that type of thing is always going to be part of the sauce, oh well. Play stupid games win stupid prizes, don't do the crime if you can't do the time, etc. Thanks again broski, your vids always one of my favorite parts of the week. Keep doin you. It’s not that people don’t respect passing point guards. It’s because many point guards now are pretty good scorers. The team’s best wing players are SG and forwards who are the primary playmakers. If you got a LeBron, Luka, and Jokic, then you wouldn’t really need a passing-only point guard.
      But, to John’s credit, he was a versatile point guard, beyond passing. He could play off ball, shoot with efficiency; and play defense.
