This is how a burst should look! Gorgeous work!
Thanks amigo
the paint job is worth more than the actual kit
great watching you guys go
Actually you are right by several times
A good paint job is expensive but it can be nice and make your guitar finish like the finish of a nice car in some ways
Reminds me of painting bikes back in the 70’s. Nice job.
Drop Dead Gorgeous!!! I was so proud today to receive one of the regular ad-type bulletins they sent. It had a statement "They Built This" or something. Then there were pictures of customer's guitars. There on the bottom left corner was my beautiful Purple 335. This is the second time they have published that picture and I get a charge each time I see it. My back is getting sore, not to mention my arm, from patting heavy attaboys on it. LOL. Thanks guys. You and StewMac - what a great combination. I love you both, as in both of you and the Ohio squad.
Wow. Chris has got to be one of the best finishers in existence to do a 2-tone burst. So good, I'll overlook the Philistinism of painting the veneer on the headstock solid black. Can't wait to see the final sand and assembly!
Chris rules
Just a quick pro tip... I have cut down a couple of TV antenna brackets for holders for painting 💜💜💜💜💜💜 Sarah
So much fun to watch, Thanks guys.
thanks for painting it vintage burst. just me, but I like gloss clear.
Pat Metheny’s guitar is clear or a little tinted. In some ways, it kind of looks nicer with that clean more simple look
Gorgeous work guys. I cant wait to build a kit.🍻
Watched all three.
Great demonstration.
Beautiful result!
Really love Chris' bursts. They're so easy on the eyes. I really need to get some kind of burst on my next TTG build.
Great job on the burst 👍
Brilliant!
Good painters make it look easy...I know it ain't, it takes years of experience.
Great job!
I've never actually seen anyone scrape binding before, it doesn't look so intimidating.
I'm sure there are almost as many techniques to do it as there are pro scrapers in the biz.
Wow, really cool guitar. I love the color and that 73 semi-gloss clear coat. Y’all are really talented at what you do. Just found your channel about a week ago, but have enjoyed these videos immensely. Great job.
Keep watching the channel Bryan. It only gets better, like fine wine. LOL.
Awesome! I just got an old acoustic with a black back and scarred up spruce top that I want to refinish in tri-burst. Never did it before so the process is appreciated!
I'm surprised how much I love this series! You guys together are a riot, and Chris is truly a finish master. Perhaps one day, you can do a rundown of the "chemicals" stored on that top shelf and how they aid in the guitar building process! 😀
You won't believe me, but Matt and I never touch that shelf. Those "chemicals" are brought by friends and participants at workshops for their own enjoyment after class. They leave them for us and others, but they only get used when they are in town. Honest!
Looks good.
That fine line tape is some nice stuff. It works much better than paper tape in certain applications 👌
Great job on the burst on the front. Perfect. Same with the back. Though, I wish you did the back not in a burst, but all dark.
Damn nice job and video!!
That's gonna get you some hellified exposure by sending it back to them. NICE JOB! The guitar looks incredible, too! 👌
Makers Pipe.
I was asking y’all where to get your handles. I’ve since gone spin twist myself
That sure turned out Sweet!... Chris did another superb over the top paint job. was the final clear put on with the Ol' Iwata LPH400?....
Beautiful job! I loved the process but wondered why the gold went on last. I’m guessing it would not affect the tobacco color as stain would have to build up and it would not affect the darker hue. So very glad you didn’t ruin it with a gloss finish😢
It looks just perfect!
No Class videos this Week?? Nice JOB by the way. Chris is great.
Lmfao @ the bandsaw blade bit 🤣🤣🤣
Tobacco Toast Guitar!!!
that guitar looks like a million dollars!
Nice job. Will this have a session 2ith a buffing wheel?
I would have guessed you'd put the amber down first and then spray the black burst. Obviously the results speak for themself. Is there any particular reason why you shoot black first, to save paint, or typically better results?
Brilliant guys Love that 73 finish. Ps. What happened to the new holding jig you were using a little while back.? 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸
The Spray twist paint rig works for bodies only , but not so much for set necks. We use it when we are doing bolt on projects.
Love watching the masters work in the lab! I probably missed this, but did you do UV on this, or slow cure?
We used UV sealer.
I'm guessing you guys have seen that new guitar paint spin thing, right?
Edit: and that's it. SpinTwist. I hit enter on my comment and you said the name 🤣
Oooh does that bass behind Chris have a trans white finish, and could we see it in a Friday reveal?
That little white spot slightly off from the binding next to the neck at 30:22, was that a white flake of something or did you guys miss that spot while scraping? Great work no matter what and I learned a ton as an aspiring guitar builder! Thanks!
Looks like a flake of binding that didn't get removed.
Why did you paint the guitar when it was fully assembled? Would it not be easier to paint the parts individually when they are not attached?
Did that kit come with the F holes bound?
What kind of tape is the 1/4" red tape you are using?
Nice but I still like a teardrop back🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳😞😞😞😞
Don't 335s usually get a Holly veneer on the headstock like the Les Paul? In that case it'd be OK to have flame on a mahog neck, wouldn't it? Since the normally get some sort of veneer anyway?
Either way, black looks better. 😆👌
Is it possible to do a translucent black with a white and blue burst?
I don't see why not
how's the quality of that kit?
Recently bought the same StewMac 335 style kit and was very unhappy with the fretwork and frets used in general, mine seemed exponentially shorter than any I've ever played. Was this just an issue with mine or is this a common issue?
Chris is naphtha same as lighter fluid?? Thanks.
I guess it is - I had to look it up.
Are you saying it cant be stained or colored all one colored so that the wood grain shows???
No, I am not saying that it can't be stained. I am saying that we didn't stain it.
You might block my comment but that figure would have POPPED more with an aniline lemon yellow, then a tinted amber clear coat!
Gibson shoot shade coats over the yellow base ....Heritage do shade coats then shoot aniline yellow over...the end result is totally different
the lemon yellow over makes the shade coats blend in with different hue!
Dyeing a solid piece of wood is much different than a thin veneer. If you watch the first episode you'll see why we specifically didn't use any dye on this before sealing. I think our top turned out perfect, just like I wanted it to.
Comments are blocked if there’s fart jokes
Great sunburst ..Gibson never get the modern sunbursts right
Still waiting for the end of the project.
You are?
It has only been a few weeks...
Remember, we are a guitar shop that sometimes makes videos, not the other way around.
No Top coat?

Guys... is 73 finish nitro?
Remember when I said I wasn't going to tell you
@Texas Toast Guitars 🤣
Just playing around. The burst looks great! I like this series.
Do I absolutely need a sealer coat before my amber? I’m building a V in a traditional 58 layout and color. I’m on my 4th coat. I didn’t do a sealer, just grain fill and amber nitro… so far it’s great. What are the downfalls of not using a sealer before color?
I don't like to deal in absolutes. If you like it then you did it right
thats an easy one
its 1 more than 72
Should have painted it lemans blue
Your videography leaves a whole lot to be desired. 😂
The paint job was excellent. (I hate the Gibson “teardrop” too.) That almost makes up for the horrible video.😊
Your not gonna fully assemble it using the kit?!?..BOOOOO!
We didn't add anything that didn't come with the kit
About the hanger/holders. Dammit. It was me.
