Frikkin' A-1 beautiful! Metal flake is the coolest. Now it needs to be played through a big-ass tuck N roll Kustom using a curly cord. :) I've mixed many a metallic, we used a mica that was stored in 1/2 or 3/4 pint (didn't pay much attention to the container size) squeeze bottles with the little flip nozzles like you see on consumer wax bottles. We just tipped the bottle upside down and tap it lightly with the nozzle open to let out enough mica powder for the mix (measured by weight), but for heavy gallon mixes (Ford Toreador Red most commonly) you could actually give the bottle a few squeezes, just don't inhale much while you're doing that! :) I kinda liked mixing paint, but I never applied any, Im happy to leave that stuff to pros, like you guys.
That flake is surfy! Chris' band! When I first saw the silver flake Tele that Don Rich played on Buck Owens tv show in the 60s, I bought some testers model car candy apple red metal flake and painted a Apollo guitar I had. 2 coats is all I could get out of the tiny can, still it was gorgeous! This was as good as it gets to show how to do flake! Thanxz

Well... it's a pretty standard burst with non standard colors. You will need to get the silver right and match the burst to the guitar. Gibson's do a pear shaped burst while Fender follows the perimeter.
So what size flake are you using? I'm guessing by the purple HF gun you're using .004 since that's a 1.4 tip...is that right? Where do you get the Holographic Silver flake?

Not sure if it's needed is todays urethane paints but I remember the 'ol timers dropping a couple glass marbles in their paint cups to help keep the metal flake suspended and agitated in the gun. Supposedly it kept the flake from laying out too flat or uneven in the finish? Of course that was with the old bottom feed Binks guns of the day. No clue if the HVLP guns are any better in this regard.
So much better when Chris does a video instead of that loudmouth, Matt! :O That is one cool finish. Hey Chris, I noticed you didn't sand the roundovers. Was that because the paint on them was smooth enough or just because you didn't want to burn through the thinner finish there? Oh, and keep that catchphrase. It's perfect for you.
Very nice. Question for Chris: Have you ever had the metal flake get streaky? Any tips for avoiding that? (I've seen some rally bad paint jobs on cars.)
Yes, it would be much appreciated, and worth a beer on me whenever I get out to that part of the country (or if NAMM goes back to an in person event), if you made a video giving detailed descriptions of all the types of products, and a wide variety of examples of the better products made by different companies, used at each step, utilizing a few different processes (I'm assuming you employ a few different processes to achieve different results), in finishing guitars and basses (drum shells, too, probably). I have a decent small gun for details, bursts, fades, etc., and a cheaper HTE gun that I'm told works great. I used my laboratory clean room experience to build a "paint booth" out of plastic tarps, with filtered fans for inflow and outflow, above my garage. You can buy a dry flake gun now. You spray the base coat then the sealer and the spray dry flakes into the wet sealer or 1st layer of clear coat. The gun is easy to clean but you still find flake everywhere.
Also curious if the GlanzMax is better than Menzerna, or about the same? Was looking at both recently but pulled the trigger on the Menzerna just because it seemed like the defacto standard.
When putting on the clear coat you wore a full paint suit. Was this extra caution to not get boogers in the clear, or is it because the clear coat is more toxic?
