Holy shit! I HAVE THIS GUITAR!! It was taken apart in my basement. Old band mate found it in his crawlspace 10 years ago and it’s sat in my basement since then. Just finished sanding. Can’t wait to crackle it.
Continuing to watch this is the best painting instructional ever, because everyone always says DONT PAINT IN HUMIDITY. But as a Florida man this has been more than helpful
Great technique. I am an experienced artist and I absolutely learned something from you - thanks. Please take my advice for your own health - wear a mask, and set up a spray booth with a fan venting to the outside.
Ahhh! This stuff is easier than I thought. The paint does the crackle work, you just have to make sure to apply it as even as youd personally like the crackle...steady hand, good brain. Nice. I expected a blow torch to burn the wood with special paint or something, idk why.
That looks great! I've been trying to find some of that verblee paint to spray in my hvlp gun.. but the only place I can find that type of pain is in England and the minimum order is like 160 pounds which is like I 120.00 plus shipping..so I'm just going to use that Montana crackle paint you have.. I bought a cheap Squier at Guitar Center for about $80 and got a different pickguard which has a hum single pickup configuration...you should use clear polyester made by simtec...its 90% the hardness of glass and sands and buffs really nice!! It's what most of the pro guitar shops use..it will easily cover the crackel paint and look pro when you done. Good video very informative!!
Hey! First of all thank you for this video. I have a few questions, the test piece you show was pretty amazing and I would like to know wich cans you used to paint it and catch this lava effect. And I would like to know wich can you use to the body to, I didn't find anything here in France that can match with what Montana said for the crackle finish, I used acrylics paint but I can't find cans who are bright or like nacred who works. Thank you buddy, amazing work, I'm making my test to!
i just bought mohawk crackle lauequer black they make wht, clear so u can tint it and black u need to use nitro for the base coat i tried dupli color it did not go well. but thw stuff is good.
My question is can you put a different nozzle on the can to make it spray out heavier so that you get more of the crackle paint on for wider cracks, or would it be beneficial to paint the sections completely at individual times?
Thanks for the video, I put a really thick coat of turquoise Montana crackle on my freshly painted dark blue guitar and you were right, we really do have to put a really thick layer of crackle. I want to know, if you don’t put the clear coats on it, will the crackle paint peel off, because I don’t mind a textured guitar
The paint will scratch very easy and bit will peel over time. My recommendation would be to just spay one good coat of clear and let it dry. It will still be textured, but it will be protected.
miniral spirits works to and not the milky white stuff just normal minural spirts also works great for wet sanding it does not epand the wood like water does.
Man,That yellow/green "slime green" would be awesome with all black hardware and Emgs.🤘👍....That looks killer at the end!!!Sorry Brotha, but I think I'm gonna have to steal that concept and put it on one of those 200$ Jackson 7 strings.
I have a Jackson neon crackle that has some spots where the color turned lighter/whiter on the crackle. What could be causing that? It was apparently made only a couple years back

Great vid. So you used Krylon semi gloss for the base coat? Why not flat? Does clearing over the semi gloss cause issues? What exact paint for base did you use ? Thanks
Will Krylon Gloss Green Fluorescent Spray Paint work especially if I’m stripping the guitar down to bare wood? This was such an insightful video thank you for posting this!
I know some krylon paints work but idk about that specific one homie, but I just did my first crackle on a kit guitar & I used the Montana gold acid green, & it worked really well, so I know their brand of neon green works with the crackle homie & for the prep work I just did a lil grain filling & then used some white primer before doing the crackle,

Does the crackle paint come only in black?
