Absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much. I think you opening the garage door, sorry craft room, and realizing it was dark was typical of many artists and crafters who completely lose track of time.🥰
For a smoother finish on canvas you can get Gesso at the craft store and paint the canvas with it.. then when dry sand it smooth. Do it a few times to get a really smooth surface. Most painters/artists need a little texture from canvas as it gives bite or tooth for the paints to stick as brushed on.

I can't remember how I hooked up to your site .... this is the first video of yours that I watched ... but I guarantee it is not the last. I have been into paint, since I created a technique, back in the early 70's (at least I think I created it ... never seeing anyone else do it before) ... using burning plastic, on dash components for my custom van. I moved into air brushing t-shirts, painting car bodies, then painting with brushes on canvas, and now integrating brush and air brush on canvas ... while still painting on other materials ... have seen water droplet effects before but not how it was accomplished ... thanks, Very Cool.
I used the water drop affect in some epoxy corn hole boards I made a few years ago. They turned out insane! You explained everything perfectly. Love the water drop affect, love your videos. ❤️❤️
A tip for orienting / hanging the piece with the water droplets: Since light ordinarily comes from above us, mount the piece with the "shadowed" side down and the highlight side up. Alternatively, do whacha want. 😁 Excellent work... and fun!

After watching your video I tried the water droplets technique ! It turned out amazing and was so fun and easy to do . I want to do another but won’t use silver as my beginning background. The reflective color kind of throws the effect off a bit at certain angles . But so many ways to go with this ! I would like to see you do an acrylic pour painting . Give it a try if you have not done so . They are fun and like a box of chocolates ,, you just never know what you’re going to get !
I dont get to watch as many of your videos as I used to..Life.. but love every single one that you have done. I love and appreciate how you explain your techniques and have fun while teaching. You really inspired me to do Toomblers and more. My first 2 of them that I did were using the Dawn dish soap and then the 2 tone woodgrain. Looking forward to more of your videos as always.

So I just stumbled onto your page and I have to say I am very impressed. Thank you for your explanations and your sense of humor. I do a lot of basic spray painting. (One color) but now imma step it up with the help of your page. Thank you and have a great day on purpose.
I discovered a similar effect when you do a base coat, and while it's still wet, immediately follow with a different color primer and it creates an amazing crackle effect and will dry that way without any clear needed! The primer floats on top of the wet paint!
Sounds great. I accidently created that snakeskin effect on my sons bedroom furniture after I painted it black, I think I varnished it before it was cured and hence the lovely pattern emerged much to my delight.
Thanks mate great video! I look forward to going through all your other videos. I am retired now and Decided to start painting again. I’ve done other spray paint art using texturing materials, such as crumpled up newspapers and tinfoil, space stuff. I look forward to learning more techniques. Thank you. You’re very talented. thanks for the inspiration.

This was entertaining and very informative! Great idea with the water, I did this once when I accidently left a spray painted canvas out in the rain and loved seeing the drops and sprayed them blue it was cool!
I love the effects. I did one with water droplets a few years ago and wrote the word "WET" over the water droplets. Everyone that sees the effect just cracks up, they cannot believe it is painted.
How interesting! Since I live near the beach and was already planning to experiment with some techniques for painting indoor and outdoor things, this is perfect timing!
I love this video. Not only is it fun for the art but you remind me so much of me it's wild . You are entertaining delightful and adorable. And you're art your airbrush art is amazing!
Love it, especially the drops -and timelessness lol! Any chance of a vid demonstrating the psychedelic gradient with patches panel? Apologies if you've put it up already etc (I used to spray bikes and spent hours over gradients -one day I'd finally got the Red to Yellow perfect blend and picked up the clear coat to finish -except that it was the Silver I was using on another project. Yeah. Mess. I got there eventually :D
Fun video. Cool technique. I attempted this. My effort came out looking like the "acid washed" version. I was going for the bolder shadowed droplet look. I spray painted a 1/8 in thick rectangle of plywood gloss white and let it dry. Then sprayed water droplets on the panel. I sprayed gloss black at one angle and a green at a different angle. (not sure how to convey this) My water drops were weak at the edges. I'm assuming what I am missing is surface tension. What is the trick to make the water droplets more pronounced and stand up from the panel surface more?
I like the salon sprayer I have because it can atomiz the water very well and I can vary up the drop sizes. You may just need to spray more water and some will combine to make nicer bigger drops. Also play around with the amount of paint your spray, try more and try less, but a very low sharp angle.
Dude, that was amazing. Could you also have tilted the canvas after applying the water to get the larger droplets to run for a similar effect with droplets and runs? I have searched and searched for a class where I can learn to airbrush. My problem is with the airbrush clogging up. If I thin the paint too much, the results are terrible, but if I don't thin the paint the brush clogs. I need instruction as to how to adjust the brush and paint for varying conditions. Any suggestions where I can get such instructions?
It makes me wonder, when you let the paint on the drops of water dry, won't they be adhesive the next morning of after drying with a heater? you probably have bad bonding right? the effect does look cool I would have never thought this could be the way to make those. it is a realistic effect and probably better if you give it a top coat in high gloss of satin transparant laquer
😂😂 This izz the first video i've seen by him, and he's comical. i like what he shared (AMAZING). i will definitely be viewing his previous videos on metal and woodwork.
Well, just when you think you've seen it all, along comes one those videos of a guy mixing good humor with unique art and a bit of science. I did airbrushing for several years in a tourist town, then got into fractal burning wood, now I'm thinking about epoxy and the like. And now you show me something new. Very cool. Might combine a few different things. See if I can come up with something original. Or is the saying "nothing new under the sun" a real thing? Guess it doesn't matter if it's original to you, right? Enjoyed your video and picked up a bit of inspiration from it. Well done.
I was told about the "rag" technique back in the 70's. Use a basic color for the background, then dip a rag in an opposing color. I tried white with black. Dip a rag in black paint and wring out most of the paint, like a paintbrush. Then just roll it down the wall from top to bottom. My bathroom looked like a zebra exploded in it, but still very cool.

It's the same trick we used in the late 60's and 70's but only with real acrylic Lacquers (not Nitrocellulose Lacquer), airbrush (your choice...I used Olympus (Iwata were copies of this brand on licence), Binks Wren, or Paasche) which allows you to control the air pressure and over-spray. With automotive paints you could add retarders to control the drying times. Also I did a fair amount on clear acrylic sheets, also known as perspex reverse image for sign shops. I was a Bump and Paint guy in the sixties before the Army and Vietnam War ... finished my fine arts degree, and moved to Australia as an Airbrush and also fine arts teacher... Another trick for your spray is an artist (mouth) spray diffuser (Check fine art supply shop for one as mine is from the 1920's...LOL). The Paasche model H (from the 1920's) is an airbrush based on that principle and still is a major seller. I love the way you make the effort to really experiment with your projects....
Mate, another quick trick we used to do was use an ex 30 gal grease barrel, cut in half on it's side, filled with water as many shops in the 60's used them to check tire inter-tubes for leaks (They didn't sell those large plastic storage boxes back then) and I'd add retarder to my lacquer paints and "Gently" float three primary colors (red, blue, yellow) onto the water surface and then use a wood stick and marble (stir it) and dip a painted and sanded motorcycle tank (Like a mustang style one). The mask off the area you want to show and spray the contrasting color of the bike over the rest... then using candy apple you can tint the marbled area and even stencil lettering or a design, then clear coat it. I did a skate board deck for my son that way. I coated the wood deck in shellac first, wet sanded it and painted it a white base enamel. I followed it up with 5 each floated "One Shot" colors, used a marbling comb (get one from an art supply store). I lettered it; "Ride Fast-Die free", my ex hated me for that one...LOL ... I only did the bottom as the top had some rubber my son bought to help with his foot grip on tricks...he had these skid strips on the bottom edges... it's simple to do.@@DuncanCustomAirbrush
This is hella cool- it’s my first time seeing you and it makes such a nice variation of background textures… I’m curious to see what else you’ve created!
Buddy of mine used to be into graffiti and he had all kinds of calligraphy/ special caps, yet he pulled off some really awsome stuff with WD 40 straws. He would cut ,melt, chew on the ends and get amazing spray patters to work with.
Awesome share! Hello from across the pond (no, not England) 😂 Just found you, your talent (and your humour). Subbed, looking forward to learning something new. 😊
Ill share one with you ... I sprayed Laquer paint on a helmet outside at below 32 degrees , paint was warm, helmet was warm, I stepped outside to spray and it froze before it landed on helmet and the nicest little snowflake shapes formed on helmet when it dried, i sprayed cleare and it worked . beautiful metalflake style like shapes formed. try it
this is how our vinyl wrapping company did it back in 2001...definitely not a new "trick" and the technique is much older than that. it's a good analog skill to know, though. thank you for sharing with everyone.
Thanks for sharing. I wish you would have zoomed in a little longer. A great trick but it's been around . I put it up there as one of the best " happy accident " discoveries in art!
Any one know what "Put the water on the DNA way" means?
spitting it out and putting your DNA on it. Talk about making it personal! 😜🤑
LoL I think the real question is, why didn’t he use his air brush gun instead of a can of spray paint 🤔
❤️❤️❤️❤️
@rebeccamd7903 my guess is because of the paint type, especially with the acid wash look, air brush paint doesn't dry like spray paint.
Spitting just like Pob!

The Paasche model H (from the 1920's) is an airbrush based on that principle and still is a major seller.
I love the way you make the effort to really experiment with your projects....
Man, I love reading your comments and all your history of knowledge. Thanks and hope you continue to watch and enjoy!
I only did the bottom as the top had some rubber my son bought to help with his foot grip on tricks...he had these skid strips on the bottom edges... it's simple to do.@@DuncanCustomAirbrush
have you tried the water drops technique on the bottom of glass? so it has the effect when you flip it over
This is hella cool- it’s my first time seeing you and it makes such a nice variation of background textures… I’m curious to see what else you’ve created!
What she said ! Oh, plus you is hella funny!
That's a really cool effect! Thank you so much for sharing. I love your videos ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Thats too cool. You earned a sub for that. Gives me ideas for powder coating.
Awesome thanks!
Buddy of mine used to be into graffiti and he had all kinds of calligraphy/ special caps, yet he pulled off some really awsome stuff with WD 40 straws. He would cut ,melt, chew on the ends and get amazing spray patters to work with.
Amazing...and you had me laughing and enjoying myself. Thank you a million times
Love this... I have been looking a series of videos like this!!! I have a huge piece to create on a wall with my artistic daughter over break.
That sounds fun!!
Awesome share! Hello from across the pond (no, not England) 😂
Just found you, your talent (and your humour). Subbed, looking forward to learning something new. 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much😊. If you could teach me everything else in the world, that would be awesome. Your explaining style helped it stick
Ill share one with you ... I sprayed Laquer paint on a helmet outside at below 32 degrees , paint was warm, helmet was warm, I stepped outside to spray and it froze before it landed on helmet and the nicest little snowflake shapes formed on helmet when it dried, i sprayed cleare and it worked . beautiful metalflake style like shapes formed. try it
Holy cow I would love to see that!!!🤯
cant wait to use these!
You da man - love your work bro!
this is how our vinyl wrapping company did it back in 2001...definitely not a new "trick" and the technique is much older than that. it's a good analog skill to know, though. thank you for sharing with everyone.
That 2nd one is really really cool!! Thanks for showing me how😁
Thanks for sharing. I wish you would have zoomed in a little longer. A great trick but it's been around . I put it up there as one of the best " happy accident " discoveries in art!
Please show us on a tumbler. Would we need to do it in sections? I’m envisioning like a lemonade type look
I did it on a tumbler before that had like a panel design, but the possibilities are endless!
Made a non-porous surface with the layer of silver. This also works with brush on acrylic paints also (at least the wipe method).
