First time seeing these guys. Big thank you for the video and the explanation of WHY you did what you did. Thank you!
Im subscribing just for the paint stick sander. Genius. 🍻
I'm so glad I saw this. I never know how much to sand. I'm glad to see that I've probably been sanding more than I've needed to
Great timing on this video. I have been somewhat unhappy with the neck profile on my current scratch build. Used this technique and whilst not as fast as your good self I ended up with a result I am far happier with. Always appreciate the content - thanks and cheers from Australia.
Thanks for watching my friend I'm glad I could help you out. Shaping necks can be a little daunting but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy
I love that you guys work fast and do a great job every time. There's so much pretentious cr&p with people going for days and days sweating over minutia that doesn't matter, I've seen videos where people spend more time than this just shaping a control cavity cover. I'm from the UK, I don't even like bullets on t-shirts because I'm a typical european snowflake, but you guys are great to watch.
Half the reason for a t-shirt is a mildly offensive message :)
Thanks amigo
@@TexasToastGuitars Best reason to wear a t-shirt...
I definitely agree with slimming down "the sholders" on the neck profile... Ive done this to a few necks I've used. Especially being careful the you dont slim down the entire back profile because you're not sure where the truss rod channel actually is inside.....
Although. Ive done a couple of "Neck TWIST" repairs. By routing a 1/4" wide channel to meet the truss rod channel .. from the back. Being EXTREMELY careful to not nick the truss rod.... but used a utility knife to score though the last tiny bit. Then. Clamping down the heel.. and clamping two blocks over top and back of headstock. Using pressure to (un)Twist the neck back .. just a little past (back, reverse the twist) and then glueing in a walnut skunk Stripe... Let it set dry.. and..release the clamps.
I have done 2 , that are still fixed perfect after 3+4 years
Cool idea man, I like your style
Ahoy there Matt and Chris, that was a great look into your build techniques! Matt, I do my necks almost exactly the same way (no deadhead and I really have only done a few necks, heh heh). Chris, your explanation of applying the finish on top of the sealer (no stain) finally soaked in for me 😂Thanks guys for your hard work!!
The deadhead makes it easier, that's for sure
He just showed the diffeence in a 200 dollar kit, and a 3000 dollar guitar. Thats's why I buy the 55 dollar kit, or the very best guitar. They make some of the best guitars I've ever seen anyway .... love these guys.
I have this kit and I'm getting close to adding the hardware. I'm hesitant to install the kit bushings because I think they will be hard to swap out in the future if I decide to upgrade. I would be grateful if y'all could talk about how to remove the bushings when y'all get to that step in the kit build. It seems like you would need some kind of puller to get them out.
There's a t-shirt in the automotive community that says something like "Warranty? I AM the warranty 😎" I had one at one time some years ago.
Great video... I plan to reshape my neck as well, but I'll probably do mine to my Carvin DC-150 profile which is my favorite for this kind of guitar. What rasp file are you using to reshape the neck, I don't recognize it?
Sounds good to me man, matching to your favorite guitar is the ideal
Neck reshaping is how you turn a average guitar into an exceptional guitar witth a custom feel. Great video.
The camera work and tripping on the floor wood 😂 all your missing is a six pack
nice job, I'm waiting the paint job because of that flame maple veneer needs a special treatment. Will you tint it, spray it, or may be sand it. I don't know . Saludos.
Hey hey gentlemen ohh easy on the old part love the video just enjoying it
Ya know I have experience with a band saw. Problem is it was T-Bones, Chuck Steak and Pork Chops. Probably not the same thing! LOL!
Hey Matt. They have a neck template for an old Gretsch Tennessean. FYI.
Oh cool, I'll have to get one
Nice use of the Gut-Brace®when rasping. :D
Good stuff, can't wait to see more progress!
You and me both!
PURPLE BURST!!!! PURPLE BURST!!!😊
I did a transparent purple finish on my StewMac 335 kit. It looks amazing.
Have you ever tried cabinet scrapers for neck shaping work?
Yes I have Pete
That UV filler stuff sure did speed up the whole sealing process. That’s amazing. Great job on reshaping the neck. It looks very close to the 59 StewMac template. Still going with a tobacco burst?
I'm not sure what we are doing with this but given the choice we usually go traditional
My kit is on the way, and I’m _absolutely_ planning on reshaping to the neck. Thanks for showing the UV filler process. I was planning on using an epoxy filler, but this looks less messy. Guessing it’s pricey to get into, though!
That's terrific I think you are going to really like this kit
Great Info and Delivery !!! Wowza, quite a nice shop boy's ! ..... In your large shop, maybe find a clip on mic for your vid sound as to come out as crystal clear as your outstanding finishes ....
Thanks for the tip
As a general rule… I like assemble every kit and test it straight out of the box before I do any sanding or alterations to make sure everything fits together and works properly, then take it back apart and start the finishing and alterations.
This is probably more worth it than a solid body kit, at least in my mind.
I think so too
@@TexasToastGuitars A bending iron and a jig is doable but, it's a whole new skill set to try and get a handle on.
I bet this thing turns out gorgeous. I would love it not in sunburst but in All Orange.
I would also like to see it in Blue or Green. See thru on either. The White binding would really pop I think.
(I am more a Solid Body type guy, but have a love for all guitars.)
A nice inlay of some type on the headstock with the headstock painted to match the body would rock.
Something like "Kit" or "StewMac".
Still working out what we are doing here
@@TexasToastGuitars I saw a 335 in a Minneapolis music store window in 1970. It was finished in natural blonde. The only part of it not "to die for" was the price. I think yours would look great in a simple Aged Clear finish. That's just me. I love the look of natural wood.
If it's a 335 kit, wouldn't it come with a 335 profile? I have always wanted a 335 so if I get the kit I would want it to be as close to the Gibson 335 as possible.
So.... the pore filler brings up the flame figure (grain) ...like a color. Or liquid would? Then you'll spray lacquer over that?!?
Kind of... Except we don't spray lacquer
I’m loving this series! Is there some way to make the figuring in the veneer pop if using a pore filler and spraying translucent color paints?
We will be spraying translucent colors
What is the procedure to get there and do some learning? Im in New Mexico so not reallllly far away.😊
Hi Shane, you can check out all or workshop offerings on the website texastoastguitars.com
Please share where to get the uv filler. I can’t find it 🙏
Matt, looks like the pin router behind you to your left is sitting on a low profile mobile base? It looks adjustable for size. Where did you get that?
I forget where that came from
So for those of us without a UV fixture and related PPE, what do you recommend for a pour filler?
I haven't found anything that I really like
Nice!
So will you guys put a kit together for me if i send it to you?? 👋
As of right now we do not offer that service, however, stay tuned
@Texas Toast Guitars
Okay, I'll keep my eye's 👀 open!
Wink wink
😆🙋♂️
I say you paint it red like Chuck Berry's ES-355TD
"Okay Davey": Davey & Golliath children's claymation Sunday morning semi-religious TV show from the 1960's. 32:28 What was Davey's sister's name?
Nice
Would look a lot better with an ebony veneer on the headstock
How much did he pay you for this?
O.K. How about a three pickup Merle Travis .......................with a Bigsby .
Okay
But seriously, your everyday carry is a .357 magnum? Your manliness goes far beyond building shred sticks.
Also the suicidal, PK Ripper and a few other golden stickers on the tool box? Did we just become best friends?
Put on another shirt! I hate bullets.
No longer a SM fan.
Junk, over priced products
I bought a tele kit and the tops core was masonite. Who wants that?
