    Excellent tutorial. I never made a Les Paul shape body. The only Gibson bodies I made were Flying V and Explorer shapes made for standard Fender necks, so this was helpful as my project goals are to make every guitar type I’ve always wanted. I’m going to have to live a long life now because I keep coming across more and more guitars I want. I got my little pin router last year, now just need to set it up and begin. Waiting on warmer weather.
    Thanks Matt

    Nice Les Paul angling method. I copy this for my second build soon. The angle will be 4.4 degrees. The pickup plane 1.2
    Thanks for the excellent tutorial.

    Does Gibson fit every les paul neck by hand at the factory? Because when shopping for les pauls some stop bars are screwed down to the body and no strings touching the back of the bridge and most have the tail piece adjusted up a 1/2 " from the body.
    I was always told to look for the one that is flush with the body because it has a better neck angle.
    Instead of top wrapping.

    I like the way that lefty looks pre sanding. Looks like topography.

      Allen and Matt, how cool would it be to leave the routed steps in the top after flattening the neck joint and pickup areas, and then hand paint the remaining steps in a gradation of colors so it comes out looking like an elevation contour topo map? You could really skip most of the finish sanding on the steps as a 'cheat' and transition to a full detail finish sand on the edge of the body, then spray the entire top with a fairly high build poly varnish ending with a matte top coat. This would be a fun project or gift for someone who is into maps for whatever reason.

      @@markpell8979 it could be cool

      @@TexasToastGuitars Obviously not something anyone could make money on producing commercially, but as a novelty one-off it might be a fun project. I knew a few guitar-playing geologists in Denver that used topo maps in their work and they would really dig a topo guitar. I've never seen that exact thing done on a step-routed top intended to be carved and sanded out smooth. Many have done concentric paint patterns but this could be a cool new way to do that. Or not. Just brainstorming off of Allen's idea.

      When I saw that, I thought it would look cool with irregular contours that don’t necessarily follow the shape, like how natural contours are. I also have an idea for a neck profile that would probably go well with this guitar. Instead of having a smooth neck carve profile, this profile would be made up of flat sides like a stop sign but with more sides. Has anyone made a neck like that yet?

    Would the same neck work on a Les Paul Jr.? If someone made a Jr. body from scratch, could you then use a standard Les Paul (glue-on) neck from Ebay or a DIY outfit as long as you route the pocket correctly? I want to make a Jr. body then use a DIY glue-on Standard Les Paul neck. I can make a jr. body, but I'm 72 and won't be around long enough to build a neck!

    Would it be a terrible thing to build a carved-top les paul style guitar with no neck angle?

    • @danielbarbieri8199
      @danielbarbieri8199 17 дней назад

      The first LP 1952 was without angle. But strings were wrapped under the bridge. This bridge was not good for hand rest nor palm muting. It was a fail.
      Off course you could, but be aware of the relationship between angle and bridge.

    iT SEEMS LIKE THE NECK ANGLE AND THE BODY PLANE ANGLE WOULD NEED TO BE THE SAME., aT LEAST WHERE THE NECK FRETBOARD CONTACTS THE BODY .because THE FRETBAORD OVERLAP ONTO THE BODY WOULD HAVE A GAP,,, AND IT WOULDNT LAY FLAT ON THE BODY. iM MISSING SOMEHING I GUESS
