I like how you’ve mentioned about how new cars have backup cameras for safety reasons but don’t want to spend to much on a new car just for that camera and I totally agree with u man, keep up the good work!
yes I have noticed many more people are now backing into things and have these cameras as they are only looking at the video screen in the car, and not paying attention to the left and right surroundings of other cars and people moving off to the sides of the car as they back out, and there has been a new surge at autobody shops for rear end damage from people backing up now. and its almost always on the very corner of the bumpers they are hitting. the back up camera makes people lazy so they do not look with their eyes like they once did.
When I got my drivers license, the driving instructor said that nobody will pass unless the turn their head around and look behind them. Now, people are encouraged not to.
I didn't really think I needed one of these, but then I rented a car with one for a month, and by the end of the month, I was a convert. It's really nice, especially for someone with poor depth perception, like me.
Not sure how many other people thought of this, but for both my cars, I simply bought wire extensions designed for the sockets on both cars and spliced everything to the extenders before attaching them to the OE sockets (with the bulbs on the other end, of course.)
Backup cameras are so nice for certain people. My 89 year old grandfather owns a 85 suburban (compliment conversion) and it’s a big rig. I was going to buy him a backup camera for it!
Great job Scotty! Nice to see an endorsed, decent quality back-up camera at an affordable price! Keep up the reviews. I've been watching a long time. God bless!
Scotty, I need this system and here's why. I've had two back up issues, one resulted in an accident other, hurt a bush. My wife has a backup camera in her Ford edge and I love it.
I'd be careful about cutting off that cigarette plug. The plug might contain surge protection or a step-down circuit. Wiring direct could blow it out. You could wire in a in-line "jack" so it's all hidden in the dashboard somewhere.
I can also recommend! Following your vid - I bought this from Amazon UK just before Xmas for £50 and fitted it to my wife's 2008 Nissan "Note" hatchback. I decided not to power it through the reversing lights, because they are fitted to the main body of the car while the licence plate is low on the hatchback door; it would have been a pain to figure out how to run wire from the hinged hatch door and then into the main body of the car and then the light cluster. Instead I took the power from the rear-screen demister element. She just has to hit the demist button to power it up. Also in the UK our plates are plastic and fixed to the car either using 3M tape or bolted halfway down the plate (not suitable for the camera's mounting bracket). Her plate used the two-sided tape method so I was able to drill two new mounting holes near the top (like a US plate). Happy wife can now see what she's reversing into ;)
Scotty - what about the latency factor inherent with wireless transmission? I feel like if what I see on camera lags behind what's actually occurring, I may see myself run into something, moments after I actually do in realtime...

from my personal experience I have seen this back up camera make people lazy and looking at the monitor and end up hitting more things with their car, and backing out into traffic and just hitting things at a much higher rate, it makes the person lazy and solely dependent on just the camera and not doing basic looking with eyes to see if people are walking down the row of cars and end up hitting them anyhow,
A Team the best method still is to look out the back window and use your side mirrors to so your front end dosnt hit anything. I've never had any issues doing it that way.
Awesome tip bought this. Easy Hook up works great. One tip. On transmitter is a switch for normal or mirror. Keep on mirror or image will look backwards. This is not explained in manual. Normal can be used as front cam
4:43 I bet the cigarette lighter plug has a 12V to 5V converter in it and the monitor runs off of 5V, so if you're going to cut that cord and try to hardwire it to your car you'll need to get a 12V to 5V converter. A little more complicated and awkward than Scotty makes it sound. Love Scotty's videos, but some of these seem more like ads than instructional videos.
Volts, not amps, the plug itself probably has a circuit that converts 12 Volts down to 5 Volts, if you cut out that plug you'll be cutting out that converter and sending 12 Volts to a circuit designed for only 5 Volts = Smoke
I don't buy the need for a backup camera even though it is a handy feature on my newer car. A couple years after I got my driver's license I realized it is so much easier to back into parking spaces between non-moving vehicles than backing out blind into moving traffic. That was before SUVs and minivans which made the backing out blind problem even worse. So I have always backed in to parking spaces since around 1975. You can navigate it easily, without a backup camera, once you get used to doing it. If you have to back up when you get there or when you leave, do it when you get there because it is safer.

They didn't make cars back then with such terrible visibility. Nowadays, a lot of hear cars and trucks have massive blind spots with big a-pillars and other safety stuff. My mother has a 2016 Toyota RAV4 and looking through the rear view mirror is like looking through a tunnel. You have no choice but to use the backup camera because the driver can't see much. It's is solution to a problem that the car manufacturers created.
Kyle Bittle My first car was a ten year old '74 Camaro and my current car is '13 Camry. Then as now, before I get in the car to back up, I take a look back there and form a mental image of what's behind me and how far away it is. Then slowly backup, so if something does move behind me, it also has a chance to move out of the way. That's just how you had to do it. I've never hit anything backing up. But, yes, visibility is down on these newer cars. And, yes, they are handy, especially, for trucks.
tipofmytongue1024 The Jews made up their god just like everyone else around the planet. Therefore, Jesus, can not be the son of a made up god, and Mohammed can not be his messenger. It took 3000 years before people stopped believing in Zeus, but he's in the graveyard of the gods now. The good thing is, when these last gods go into the graveyard, no one will believe anyone if they make up a new one. A god with a religion, what an antiquated idea. Imagine the Old Testament and New Testament on a table before you. Now think, is this the work of the smartest most powerful being in the universe or is this silliness the work of man?
Absolutely love the wireless camera concept on a vehicle or a house for that matter. All you do is use this wireless camera - no wires LOL, LOL.... now drill through the back door to run the wire to the transmitter, now remove the side panel and drill through to find the backup light wire positive, now insulate the wire to keep moisture out. LOL. Just buy the cheap wired model since you are running wires anyway. You can run the wire easily under the vehicle and use zipties on the wire, done likely in half the time of installing all the so-called "wireless" stuff,, plus you'll never have to worry about signal drop out or lines through the picture. There is usually a spare rubber plug in the firewall panel that you can run the wire through after poking it with an ice pick.
@Vyacheslav Ivanov o really :D ? if i called all females subhuman , that would be sexist :) average female is a lot worse with cars than average male , so it is fair to say what i said before .
Scotty, I love your videos but come on, this one feels incredibly biased towards a sponsor. First off, the mirror thingy isn't installed that way. Second, a wireless camera still needs the energy to be fed from the reverse gear light while some mirror (and other dashcam types etc.) don't require connecting to that light as the front and rear camera is always on and recording. Also, with a wire going across the roof cover, one doesn't need to mess with the reverse gear light.
I just bought a back-up system at Costco for $125.00 that doesn't require ANY extras. The camera is a solar powered license plate frame and it broadcasts to the monitor right from the frame. Monitor plugs into cig lighter just like this one.
I have front and rear CHEAP ebay cams. The Rear one saved my bumper how many times and the front one got me out of trouble in traffic court. A total investment of UNDER $50 dollars! I replaced my front cam after one year when it died, with another cheapo - they are disposable at that price, yet priceless.
All the comments were correct, plus those unexpected concrete blocks and objects near the bumper height were the worst. That's especially true for unfamiliar territory while traveling.
I’ve had a bigass Tundra for just over a year now, and let me tell you with this being my first full-sized truck, backing into parking spaces is still a challenge determining how close my rear bumper is to whatever’s behind me...
JT Outdoors they’re mandatory for 2018 and newer cars need to have them. The pressure is on the automakers not the people. Whats the problem? I think it’s a great law. Just because you have better view in the back makes it less connected? Makes no sense. Fords autopark feature yeah I’d call that less connected
@@CarlosAguilar-dj4ph different perspective when backing up without a camera.. REAL EXAMPLE: my gf can't back up my 2004 Oddysey because she's used to her 2013 Civic with a backup camera, that's what she learned on, bad on her father.
it's not about laziness, my Accord lets me see almost 180 degrees which is very useful when backing out of a parking spot, especially if it is a big vehicle next to me and I can't see a thing until someone hits me. It also allows you to better see kids just in case. It's being made law because it increases safety, but I don't believe it should be a law b/c that's just more government involvement.
I drive a van, it's my first car. Got my license and the next month drove around Australia. Back living in a city now and I absolutely hate parking my van. It's a beast, it has a camera but I still hate parking it. But, the upside is, I can go camping whenever I want.. Woohooooooo (except today because it's pouring rain)
Fitted a wireless system to my old pick up, but since I'd blacked out all my windows, and rear vision was terrible, I ran a permanent live to both the camera and monitor. Gave me a far better view than a mirror ever could. Wee bit more involved than this, but was easy enough to run a power lead along the chassis to give permanent power.
I bought the solid wired cam. It works good. An hook reverse light an metal ground. Easy. I give it b +. 8 outta 10. Real review. Im happy Only thing is wire are thin. Other wise i works great I didnt use the connectors that came with it.
I always learn something new and useful from you - with 3 family daily drivers at or near 200K miles, I need all the help I can get to keep them running. Thanks Scotty! PS: that wireless back up camera would be a great addition to my skoolie (RV converted short school bus)

Been looking for a good backup camera to wire into my moms new car. She missed the backup camera now that she’s switched vehicles and this would make a great Christmas present for her!
Hey lookout don't run into me :)
Hey look out Don't run into me!
“Wireless”
It’s not that difficult to run wires through a vehicle but Scotty seems to be challenged with trim assembly.
Scotty watch your videos everyday when I get home from work your videos help me confirm all the things I learned about for Chevys and Chryslers and Kia been a tow truck driver for 15 years I always think something was wrong with those cars thank you for reminded me I could really use a backup camera oh yeah just because I'm a tow truck driver automatically people think about mechanic had to tell him I'm not that's why I drive a tow truck🤣😂
"this ones really long" then strokes the antena. lmao
How did we ever make it this far alive?
They didn't make cars back then with such terrible visibility. Nowadays, a lot of hear cars and trucks have massive blind spots with big a-pillars and other safety stuff. My mother has a 2016 Toyota RAV4 and looking through the rear view mirror is like looking through a tunnel. You have no choice but to use the backup camera because the driver can't see much. It's is solution to a problem that the car manufacturers created.
@R2 D2 That's what people were sating when they came out with the car.
Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ
tipofmytongue1024 The Jews made up their god just like everyone else around the planet.
So, who's been pouring whiskey in his muesli??
This would be great for grandmas 1994 Volvo 😂😂😂
I think you mean grandma's 1994 Honda Accord lx with the 2.2 liter inline 4, 5 speed manual transmission
im not worried about running into things, but i am worried about my wife backing up into things
females and cars dont mix
@Vyacheslav Ivanov o really :D ? if i called all females subhuman , that would be sexist :)
average female is a lot worse with cars than average male , so it is fair to say what i said before .

@@priedeens585 aha
Better install 3 then.
Do you want to tape a wire to your headliner? Not me.
I agree. I hate wireless backup cameras and it is just as easy to run the wire back.
@@jimervin387 xD I would run it behind trim or headliner. Tape would look horrible lmao
I just bought a back-up system at Costco for $125.00 that doesn't require ANY extras. The camera is a solar powered license plate frame and it broadcasts to the monitor right from the frame. Monitor plugs into cig lighter just like this one.
Does anyone use the cigarette lighter to actually light cigarette’s anymore?
No way!!!
Yes
Yes, get a asian designed car. My 07 Kia Sportage came with the lighter AND the ashtray. a REAL ashtray.
They still have cigarette lighters in cars nowadays?
@@Tvo281 well big tabacco is still going hard in asia so it makes sence.
Rev up Your Lawsuit's 😂
Makeing horrible drivers one new device at a time lol
Bebo Nemo how?
I have front and rear CHEAP ebay cams. The Rear one saved my bumper how many times and the front one got me out of trouble in traffic court. A total investment of UNDER $50 dollars! I replaced my front cam after one year when it died, with another cheapo - they are disposable at that price, yet priceless.
Would it work as far away as on the plate of a boat trailer?
Bill That is a great question . But wouldn't the water damage it when you are unloading the boat ?
Good question . Boat trailers, campers, motor homes, car haulers, toy haulers, or even farm tractors.
Check with the model documentation .. They all are not alike ..some have a better signal than others
Even if it won't, stringing wire on a boat trailer is pretty simple, just zip tie it to the existing light wiring
Thank you! I’ll get one for my one eyed wife.

I can't believe you have to have back up cameras, I thought mirrors were supposed to cover for that, you know
Pelao Morales Not always the case.
You can't see down low on most cars. By that, I mean you can't see a small child standing behind your car. Backup cameras are great for seeing that.
Parents themselves have backed up and killed their own kids. They couldn't see them.THAT'S WHY.
All the comments were correct, plus those unexpected concrete blocks and objects near the bumper height were the worst.
That's especially true for unfamiliar territory while traveling.
Sure, and buggy whips still whip so long as you're still going to work in a buggy there grandpa
Haha I remember almost backing over a friend of mine in HS when I was driving a big ole boat Ford Taurus 😅
Jonny DIY ahhhhh the memories
I use a cat. Unfortunately my cats don't last that long and I have to keep replacing them.
do they become "Beyond Repair"
Miau.
I’ve had a bigass Tundra for just over a year now, and let me tell you with this being my first full-sized truck, backing into parking spaces is still a challenge determining how close my rear bumper is to whatever’s behind me...
A super offensive comment.
Totally immature response.
A comment that assumes the above comment was made by a liberal.
In which case, how would you know?
@@CyberWaifu was that a joke or something?
It’s funny watching the comments on this comment.....thinking this is offensive, than the actual comments. Reminds me of Trump🤣
@@CyberWaifu usually complaints come from said liberals.
Rev up your...lazy habits being enforced by law makers.
Installing all these safety features on these cars isn't making the roads safer, it's making the drivers less connected to the road, ridiculous.
I'm not opposed to back up cameras. I am opposed to them being mandatory. I'm not convinced they really do anything as far as reducing collisions.
Video delay is the problem with wireless backup cameras.
I know that old wireless systems had a delay. Is this still an issue?

Other wise i works great
I didnt use the connectors that came with it.
Thanks scotty your my go to. Have fun in Tennessee
Ever since I seen your first video about oil. I have learned a lot from you. Thanks for the videos. Much appreciate all the work you do for them.
Thanks for the advice. I misplaced the directions, so you helped me install it correctly.
“Hey lookout don’t run into me” gotta love this guy
I always learn something new and useful from you - with 3 family daily drivers at or near 200K miles, I need all the help I can get to keep them running. Thanks Scotty! PS: that wireless back up camera would be a great addition to my skoolie (RV converted short school bus)
Shut up
This is great, I have this 2006 Ford Fiesta without Bluetooth and back camera and I really want an upgrade. Until I bought a new car this can be my best option.
This looks great, never have i thought that one can install a wireless reverse camera.
Looks like a winner. Appreciate you showing various wiring options.
I would love to have one of these cameras! Thank you for the video I almost backed into a pole in my Dodge Grand Caravan. I happened upon your video whilst researching, so thank you very much!
