Thank you for covering these. I've been waiting to read dunsay for ages and been unable And I feel this one is a metaphor for the decay of the empires in it's authors day. Or modern weakness perhaps.
No a very good story to my thinking. Mostly a collection of big sounding words and images. Nothing ever happens, no hero rises no great events, nothing. Yes, I know this story was written a long time ago and is in the style of that time, but for a reader of today it seems dull and pointless.
I respect your opinion, although of course I differ! To me, the notion of the statues, the traditions of war, the romanticism of it being dashed against the harsh realities of killing. Also, concealing the death of war leaders strikes me as quite interesting.
My wish for more Dunsany is granted already? ☺️
It would be nice to say that I'd done it just for you, but I admit to a little bit of advance planning with Dunsany!
This series is F’n Dunsane! ⚔️
