Spencer Rattler deserves some respect. He's gotten a bad wrap lately but I made this video because I feel bad for him the way he's being treated in the media and his fanbase. Lets not forget who this kid is. He’s a competitor and a hell of a football player. He might be on the sideline for now, but there’s no doubt he will find another chance to prove himself, whether it’s with OU or somewhere else.
Rattler’s been committed to Lincoln Riley and OU since early on his high school career. He was considered the consensus #1 quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class and for good reason. Rattler has always been extremely accurate with the football and has enough athleticism to be a threat with his feet.
After sitting behind Jalen Hurts in 2019, Rattler got the starting job for OU in 2020. Which unfortunately just happened to be one of the weirdest seasons in college football. A pandemic, a shortened season, limited crowds, it just didn’t feel the same. His star running back Kennedy Brooks didn’t even play, he chose to opt out. And when the sooners started off 1-2, and Rattler was benched against Texas, it was looking like the entire season might be a trainwreck. He kept his composure though and whenever Lincoln Riley put him back in game, Rattler helped lead his team to a four overtime victory. Spencer looked sharp the rest of the season, he got OU another Big 12 Title and a dominant win against Florida in the Cotton Bowl.
If Lincoln didn't check out for the 2022 season with his sights on USC, who knows what Rattler could have accomplished.

I hope this experience humbles Rattler. He just came off to me as cocky, arrogant and self-centered, but I hope he learns from this and is better off in the long run.

Exactly the same vibes I get from him. Credit to Lincoln for NEVER saying a bad word about Ratt. Rattlers issues are mental. If he can't overcome this setback he's done. He might be better off at a smaller school doing his thing even though he seems like an "all eyes on me" type of guy
@Rc_carV3 Riley is in a win win situation as long as Rattler gets his head on straight. The only issue Lincoln might have is if Caleb gets pulled and Rattler has a solid performance to end the season...then he'll have to worry about who is going to start at QB next season unless Rattler leaves.

Rattler has been told how great he is all his life, and he's finding out he's not the best there is. He's cocky and arrogant. and a turnover waiting to happen
When a 20 year old is given 2 brand new cars for free how can you expect him not to be arrogant. He was treated like he’s already an acclaimed pro. Maybe if college footballers were treated like normal collage kids it wouldn’t happen.
As an OU fan Rattler was actually really good! Playing some of his highlights from 2020 we all forget so easily how well he played after being benched at Dallas. We were all excited about Spencer's sophomore season. Either he didn't put in the work or teams figured out how to rattle Rattler. From Lincoln Riley's words he says Spencer has always been a team player but could be distracted by the NIL. That alone could be the main reason for his downfall. Don't know, but I'm just glad we had a Caleb Williams to rescue us from the Longhorns. Great recruiting and even better than expected play from Williams. Spencer will be fine whether he goes or stays.

Rattler reminds me of the fictional character Eddie Martel from the movie " The Replacements " . He had more physical talent than the others on the field but does not show the leadership quality that makes others around him want to play better . I know he is still just a kid but I hope he can mature and become the leader they need .
He should go to Ole Miss. Kiffin can definitely resurrect Rattler career.
He needs to be brought down. Hopefully this makes him realize arrogance get you nowhere in life. He can be successful if he figures out how to be humble.
Word on street is he is a horrific team player. Talks shit to other qbs and relievers. Its never his fault.. I hope he is humbled because with the natural talent he has if he could get his head right and realize he isn't God's gift to football he could make a solid player.

Kid has the talent but need a different system, it also seems like everyone around him just let him do and say whatever he wanted instead of teaching him.

@@pwho405- I don’t think anyone is saying he should be thrown away. The young man obviously has the physical talent to succeed. I question if he has the discipline and humility to succeed. I’ve seen a lot of posts from so called Oklahoma students who allegedly see him out partying damn near every day of the week.

All I can say is that I do think that Riley failed him (I really think Riley had LA on his mind before the season was over, which diminishes him in my eyes...). Rattler seems like a total d***, not a leader, undersized and his athleticism just isn't elite. Maybe it's for the best he drops in draft stock, saved him from being one of the biggest draft busts.
that’s not a fair assessment of Rattler he had one bad half. The young man will do well keep your head up.

It didn’t help that Brooks wasn’t starting and the o-line wasn’t blocking well. What really killed him though was his refusal to run the football. You can’t play QB in Riley‘s offense Without doing it quite a bit

The oline was blocking great. He didn’t throw with any anticipation. And refused to throw check downs unless he was scrambling to the right while throwing off his back foot towards the left. Film doesn’t lie

This isn't a hate video. It's actually a really good video going over everything that's happened with Rattler. Unless Caleb gets hurt Spencer is on ice this year. If OU runs the table Spencer is done at OU. He's not entering the draft, those dreams are over. He needs some humility and a change of scenery. Seems to concerned with the limelight

He’s underachieved all year. We just had Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts. You have to be that good or better. It’s called playing for a team with high expectations. To be fair, Caleb is also underachieving. We expect upperclassman play. Neither of them are ready to start for OU. That’s on the coaches an recruiting. Spencer has the talent, he just needs more time to develop.

I just don’t think he’s a great passer. Rarely does he hit guys in stride. Seems his WRs are able to out muscle defenders for the ball most of the time.
